Hector Aragon yes i’ve been here since end of august. it’s definitely very, very different than chicago. but the winter was so nice & mostly mild. to be honest covid has made it really tough for me to enjoy it here but that mostly has to do with not being able to work for almost 3 months cuz of the lockdown & not having friends here before i moved. the political climate is liberal but nothing like chicago & i mention that because it has a lot to do with how the city as a whole handles current social issues. but maybe i would feel differently had i had time to make more friends & build more of a community here - maybe i would feel safer. i wish i had more positive things to say! but i just want to be honest. had i known all this was going to happen i would have stayed in chicago.

Hector Aragon cost of living is similar to chicago, maybe a little bit more actually. which i am actually a little surprised by because 😬 i don’t think things are as nice as chicago. sorry again for the honesty! & these are just my opinions of course. more apartments are small units in huuuuuge complexes that range from shabby to nicely built & modern, but rent is kind of high for what you get. plus it seems like most complexes tack on an EXTRA $50-75 to your rent in bullshit fees! there are a ton of homeless folks & i’m not used to seeing so many cuz in chicago i think most folks stayed inside in shelters. here they stay outside on roads, by highways, parking lots, everywhere. i am not complaining - i can’t imagine having to go thru such hard times myself, & it’s not that i don’t think homeless folks should be tucked out of the way or anything like that. it’s just very shocking to see & makes me wonder what programs the city has in place, if any, to assist these folks in need. since covid it seems like the number of tents & people have doubled, if not tripled. sounds like an over-exaggeration but that’s what it seems like to me.

Thanks for your question! Compared to other cities in the U.S., Austin has a decent cost of living (way lower than New York, San Francisco, Chicago, etc.) - it's 3% lower than the national average. BUT prices are slowly increasing over time because big companies like Apple and Google are opening locations in Austin, so more people will be moving to the city and prices will go up. For right now, I'd say you can get by just fine with an apartment
I disagree, chicago is a known fact to be cheaper UNLESS you live in the loop area.coat of food is also high so actually you pay for where you live. , you need to go to “The Oasis” on lake Travis, That’s a top Three.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You didn’t mention “The Oasis” That’s a must go to place top 3 in the area, the hillside is where to go but pricey and beautiful Greenland’s. Enjoy Austin for me. Missing it Great Vid,👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👀👀
the only difference is that LA and Dallas prepared for it. They built multi lane highways and roads. In Austin, for example there is one way in or out..North to South. That is I35. Through downtown, the highway has not been updated since the mid 1960s, that is when the city only had under 200,000 people. Fast forward to today, within the city, the roads are the same, however the population is almost at a million. Everywhere you go is complete gridlock, plus the traffic lights are not sycronized so nothing moves. There are no crosstown expressways to jump on to get out of it. For a mid sized city it is horrible. The liberals have had a "no infrastructure" no growth policy since the 80s. That is do not improve roads or build highways because people will still use cars. So they have not prepared for anything. The current infrastructure cannot support the population we have now.
LaVidaLisa yes please that would be awesome. You have a really sweet personality....I’m considering the move but I’m terrified! We’ll see what happens....

thank you for this video!
i’ve been thinking about moving to texas
the only thing deterring me is the weather
i hate being hot lol
ashleylaurennnx3 I lived in San Antonio and Austin and it’s either warm or hot that’s your choice of weather.
Lol traffic is not bad at all in Austin. ESPECIALLY compared to LA... if you live in Dallas it’s really no different in my opinion
the only difference is that LA and Dallas prepared for it.
Kurt W I can see your point but in either city best strategy is to live closest to work. Less frustrating for everyone
If you live in the South, Checkout "Inspired Movement" for latin social dances.
Ur in Sunset Valley? I work at Yeti of Southwest Parkway! So ur not far and I live in south austin. Maybe i can meet you one day!
Hope Bromley I actually moved from there to North Austin. I’d love to meet sometime!
@@LisaMilter coolies! Sounds awesome!
How do you feel about Austin currently after all that time you been there ?
Ankh The Artist Still love it! Especially that it’s still so sunny and beautiful even in December
Finally someone who realizes Austin Traffic really isn't as bad as Austin residents make it out to be.
Please update :) how have your first few months been?
They've been really good so far! I'm planning on creating an update video soon, so I'll give more details then :)
LaVidaLisa yes please that would be awesome. You have a really sweet personality....I’m considering the move but I’m terrified! We’ll see what happens....
My wife and I will be moving to an Austin suburb in a couple of years when we retire. Currently living in Maryland. We visited Dallas, Waco, and Killeen last August and the heat wasn't too bad.
5:05 that expression of your love it ahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG
Do you still enjoy living in Austin? I’m thinking about moving down there from Oklahoma by the end of this year!

You should hit up skishores, good food there.
Embrace the "y'all". It's going to come out any way.
You are great
Hi I am an Austinite the traffic has gotten so bad lately that I can only ride my bike to work, it takes me 30 minutes to drive 2 miles to downtown, and the drivers are clearly not real austinites because they are so mean!! Sorry you seem really nice I just need to rant about the expats for a minute. No hate you seem like a very kind woman
Lilly Winslette No worries, I totally get it! Yup, traffic is pretty bad downtown, and not all drivers are nice. I’m just speaking from my personal experiences so far, but I’ve definitely run into some iffy drivers!
I love texas
Austin traffic is better than Houston traffic
ehhhhhhh.......only if you don't know the shortcuts. Austin is shit E-W.
Just moved to Austin a month ago, the southern hospitality is real! Lol and yeah like a heat wave no lie
I moving to Austin in 1 month. Thank you for the vid.
haha thanks! Thinking of moving there. Not sure yet.
ATX is amazing especially if you have a great career.
If you have a great career lots of places are amazing. San Diego comes to mind.
Welcome to Austin! I’m a Badger too- grew up in Milwaukee. I finished Grad school in 1990 and moved down in August of that year and have been here ever since. My oldest two daughters are in college at Texas State- which is an hour south of here in San Marcos. My other 2 are in high school. I’ve lived here over half my life but I still love my home state of WI too- love going up there in the summer when it gets near unbearable here. Anyways, Austin (and Texas in general) is a great place to live and travel around- lots to see and do! 👍
Yay! Totally agree. Go Badgers!
june bugs won't hurt you beware of the scorpions.
Not even a second in and I'm already at Austin
I'm from Chicago too. And seriously considering a move to Austin. Great video
Please don’t.
Embrace the y’all you’re a southerner now!
Man if you thought torchys shitty chain tacos were good you’re in for a treat
Drew They’ve got the best guac, imo :)
The pronunciation is like that cause most of them don't know how to pronounce them in Spanish. I don't blame them honestly, it's a pet peeve though. 😒
As a native Spanish speaker this would be so annoying.
I constantly got corrected in LA, when I would say certain words for the first time.
Moving to Austin in a month, looking forward. Great city to live
Angel Aponte Excited for you! You’ll love living here!
Leave your liberalism in Chicago.
LA traffic is just as bad tho xD
No way! I'm told LA has the absolute worst traffic out of any city in the U.S.
Lisa Milter Haha 3 miles is like 2 hours during rush hour lol
Welcome to Austin.
ManchacA..🤣
I'm from Chicago and I was thinking about moving to Austin or dallas.
Reggie Lindsey Well, Texas overall is a great choice! I haven’t spent too much time in Dallas, but I’ve heard people say it’s kinda boujee, whereas Austin is more down to earth. I really love it here!
@@LisaMilter oh okay thanks for letting me know, and I might come visit in Austin. Just wanted to know do it be alot of jobs out there. But enjoy. And I know you happy that you moved.
stay up there, we have enough libtards down here already
I respect the host take on Austin but not as informed as America First who has lived in Austin for over 50 years. 50+ years speak alot louder.
It's not meant to be as informed, as there's no way I could know everything there is to know about Austin, only having lived here for a year. I intended it to be a new, out-of-state perspective. There are plenty of videos made by native residents, but this wasn't one! Thanks for your feedback :)
Cutie
You're not an "Austinite" unless you're born here.
midwest problems lol
Or Milwaukee
No you're not a Texan yet. You never will be.
I don,t know what so special about Texas
It looks to me just plain old flat land
Golden state is much better
Gorgeous and beautiful
( people in Texas is little nicer though)
Joe kingdom Most parts are flat but Austin isn’t. Google “The Oasis Austin”, “Mt Bonnell”, “Lake Travis”
