And that offside goal against Portugal was extremely close, not far from being onside so stop crying 11 years later. Spain deserved that title because in every position they had a legend. Even the substitutes consisted of legendary players. They are nowhere near overrated.
Germany was good already in 2010, but Spain was unreal. Arguably one of the top 3 national sides of all time, together with Hungary 1954 and Brazil 1970. The full magic of the Barcelona midfield with Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta on display, plus Xabi Alonso's intelligence and Ramos' dynamism. The Barca fullbacks and behind them Casillas kept things tight at the back. The only thing Spain was missing was a top notch center forward - somebody who could have taken Messi's or Ronaldo's role. Villa and Torres did not quite match up. So Spain won matches 1-0 they should have won 3-0 or 4-0, and the midfielders and defenders had to score the goals.
+Bryan Sanchez Not my view. I agree that Italy in 2006 had a fine team that is generally underrated. But they were close to losing to the US and Australia early on - not necessarily football powerhouses - and won the semi (against a mediocre Germany, compared to 2010) and final only after nail biters that could have gone the other way just as well. True is that Spain won many matches only 1-0 in 2010. But if you saw these, you know that their opponents still had no whisker of a chance - as they did not get the ball. This semifinal is a point in case. And it's not only 2010 for Spain, it's also 2008 and 2012. For half a decade, the furia roja dominated world football as few national teams have. One can of course debate whether it's top 3 or 5 or 10, but I for my part am sure that when our era will become history, this team will be counted as one of the greatest national sides of all time.
+herodot2 Italy only allowed two goals at that WC 1 was an own against the U.S which ended in a tied and the other goal was the penalty of Zidane! That mediocre team of Germany was great just had bad luck! Spain lost their first game, won against Honduras and barely won against chile.. And only scoring 8 goals while Italy 12.. Italy was a better team back then there was a lot of more international competition that's why Spain ended up dominated from 08 to 12 which only is 4 years compare to Brazil that dominated from 94 to 2007
Bryan Sanchez Germany in 2006 was "great"? Ouch. There were players like Borowski, Odonkor, Neuville and Metzelder in the line-up who today wouldn't make Germany's C team. Now 2010 had Mesut Ozil, Thomas Mueller, Manuel Neuer, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira - the nucleus of the 2014 team. Ozil and Mueller alone injected a pace and variability into Germany's game that was badly missing in 2006. The only significant players in 2006 who were good enough for 2010 were Phillip Lahm and Miro Klose (Schweinsteiger was very young and a subsititute in 2006 who, when he played, played on the wings) And it's not how many goal a team makes or conceded in a WC. It's how they play. Italy was a no-show in 2006 until the quarterfinal, were in grave danger against teams they should control. Then they found their groove, and played with a beautiful, understated class that rightly won them the WC. But Spain in 2010 controlled their opposition. If you saw that match against Switzerland you will know it was a freak result, the Swiss grouping around their box for 90 minutes and having ONE chance to score from a long ball. What Spain did with a classy Germany in this semifinal must go down as one of the most stunning performances in World Cup history. Btw, Brazil dominated from 1994 to 2007? As I recall, Brazil was twice shredded to pieces by Zinedine Zidane alone in this period."Domination" is different. 2006 Brazil was one of the weaker Brazilian teams in history. In any case, I don't know a team that would have dominated world football for longer than 4 years. Actually, only 2: Brazil 1958-62, Spain 2008-12. Perhaps Hungary 1951-54.
The way he consoles every German player instead of celebrating after creating a history for his country is truly remarkable that's the reason we Barca fans say we are blessed with a captain like Puyol 🫡
Can we talk about how high Carles Puyol jumped? He was the same height as Pique in the air and Pique is 6’4. Raw determination from Puyol. If it wasn’t for this upset Germany probably would have won this World Cup instead.
Yeah crazy that he only scored about 1 goal every 50 games but he headed this rocket in just when Spain needed it. I just got him in my FIFA team so thought i'd check out his highlights
This team won 3 tournaments in a row......Euro 2008, WC 2010 and Euro 2012. One of the best and if not definitely THE best national European team of all time.
niram ktm That hungary team was unbeaten for at least four years. Their favoritism was perhaps the biggest that any team ever had in a World Cup. And their first game loss was the final against Germany.
Forwards in massive form Extra ordinary skilled midfielders Reputed defenders number one goalkeeper at the moment All pieces together makes a one master of football - 2010 Spanish team - there will never be a team again like this
Germany had a strong team storming the other teams in previous games by scoring 4s against teams like Argentina, England and Australia, but Spain managed this game to control the ball and prevent the Germans from having it. Spain did not look very solid in previous rounds against lighter teams because all those teams played purely defensive against them. They exploded this game and deserved a game they controlled. Simply Spain was at its peak, and Germany was just on the rise, where they would reach their peak 4 years later.
What made this Spanish team incredible was not only the unmatched collective quality of their team at the time, but the chemistry they had together. They were a unit that exhibited spirit, passion, intensity and above all an effective footballing philosophy at which they were all inordinately proficient: Tiki-taka. No team is ever unbeatable, but this Spain team were about as close as it gets. They won the 2008 Euros, the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Euros during era of unconscionable supremacy. Nobody can deny they were one of the greatest international sides ever.
I think germany in 2010 was strongest than 2014 they had beat england 4-1 and argentine 4-0 but stopped by spain in semi-final that had a golden generation
This was one of the 3 matches I saw in person in South Africa, but my seats for this game was the left corner behind one of the goals. Luckily it was the side that had the goal because in the first half there wasn't a lot of activity on my side haha.
I remember this.... Germany had just beaten England 4-1 then Argentina 4-0 and no one was even giving Spain a chance before the match. Then Spain absolutely made them look like amateurs and were unlucky not to win 4-0 themselves! What a team they had....
@@ahmedhamada1250 Some said the tikki takka boring style wouldnt hold against Germanys full attacking playstyle since Germany had scored more goals than Spain in the Wc2010 til semifinals. However as it turned out it completely worked, Germany couldnt compete here
I think the 2010 World Cup was by far one of the best like the crowd atmosphere and then the starting squads most teams had like come on they were all in their prime .
I was supporting and praying for Spain that time. I was very happy when Spain won the world cup. I am Indian and I love Spain and Latin american countries.
I think Puyol was trying to make up for the header he missed in the first half. And he did so! As for the Germans - for once they actually had to play some difficult teams on the way to the Final. Good on them for eliminating England and Argentina but even the "mighty" Germans weren't able to get past THREE difficult opponents in a row!
In 2014 and 2006 we actually had hard enemies aswell 06: Argentinia and Italy 14: France, Brazil (I mean, b4 the match started brazil were actually favourites) and Argentinia ☝🏻 I think we just had the easy route in 2002 😂😂😂
I cannot express enough gratitude to the great players of this Spanish team that won 2 European Championships with a World Cup in between. You made El Sueno (The Dream) come true for Spanish fans of a World Cup victory and more. Thank you Casillas, Iniesta, Xavi, Xabo Alonso, Fabregas, Villa, Torres, Puyol, Ramosand to so many other players and coaches.
It makes me tear that some of these players are still playing. Pedrito, bosquets, iniesta just retired last month in October. My gosh so much beautiful memories. If only we can go back to such simpler and more peaceful times.
Golden generation of Spanish football history 😊 I miss this 11 😥 I am from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 but supported Spain because Germany knocked out my team Argentina 😫
I was only like 9 years old during this World Cup and didn’t know much about football. But looking back, man did Spain have a legendary team🤯 almost all from either Barca or Real Madrid too. Just the type tiki-taka that went on all working as a unit. So majestic!
Carles Puyol was the player that made Spain win the world cup. (in my opinion.) He defended very well in the world cup. He was very crucial in the Spain national team winning a lot of their titles in the last couple of years. Puyol to me, was the greatest defender of the World Cup 2010, Euro 2008, and more. He had the leadership with Barcelona. He really was a lion. Return to MLS, Puyol? Best of luck. - Paul Pogba The Future.
Donnie Carles Pujol put his grain of sand, but it was not the only one: Casillas, Villa, Ramos, Alonso, Iniesta, Xavi, Ramos, etc ... all were important. Without the great interventions of Iker, or the goals of David Villa, the genius of Iniesta in the center of the field, for example, Spain would not have played the semifinal against Germany. A team is all the players, not just one.
Just watched a World Cup documentary on Spain. Fun fact from xavi here for puyol’s goal. Xavi said puyol scolded him after the first half saying “can’t you see that all the German players are just standing there when you put the ball in the penalty area?” To which Xavi replied, “in the second half, the very first corner we get, I’m going to give it to you”. 2nd half came, GOAL from Puyol.
Puyol's first action after the final whistle? He doesn't run to celebrate with his squad, he immediately goes to console and shake the hands of every german player. What a treasure of international football.

Villa scored most of the goals in the World Cup so he really was the best they could get Torres did nothing
That's too far to say Spain is top 3 all time.. They got lucky in most of those matches if not all of them! Italy 2006 was a way better team than them
+Bryan Sanchez Not my view.
The only significant players in 2006 who were good enough for 2010 were Phillip Lahm and Miro Klose (Schweinsteiger was very young and a subsititute in 2006 who, when he played, played on the wings)
And it's not how many goal a team makes or conceded in a WC.
Back when Spain tika taka was effective
Got to give it to Captain Tarzan with the amazing header!!!
Spain definitely deserved that victory, visça España!!!
Es viva España no visca cara espárrago
Loris Karius so the 7 players aren’t Catalan you fool only 4 are
The way he consoles every German player instead of celebrating after creating a history for his country is truly remarkable
that's the reason we Barca fans say we are blessed with a captain like Puyol 🫡
Can we talk about how high Carles Puyol jumped? He was the same height as Pique in the air and Pique is 6’4. Raw determination from Puyol. If it wasn’t for this upset Germany probably would have won this World Cup instead.
Yeah crazy that he only scored about 1 goal every 50 games but he headed this rocket in just when Spain needed it. I just got him in my FIFA team so thought i'd check out his highlights
I love you, Carles Puyol. He was a great player as well as a humble man.
Spain from 2008 to 2012 will always remember in football history
They will win Euro again this year
I still remember with pride this great match of my Spain🇪🇦❤️
miss this spanish team 😭
This team won 3 tournaments in a row......Euro 2008, WC 2010 and Euro 2012. One of the best and if not definitely THE best national European team of all time.
Argentina best in the world right now.
@@sharminbhuyan3722right !

He was rapid too

FC Barcelona vs Germany

Kevin Logue if only Messi excepted to be in the Spanish team

Villa was in Valencia, Navas in Sevilla, Cazorla in Villareal, torres in Liverpool . Its unfear to say Spain was Barcelona or Real Madrid
Your ignorance physically hurts me
top 3 national teams 0f all time:
1. brazil 1970
2. Hungary 1954.
3. Spain 2008-2012
spain is no1 in the list no one made it in history 2 Euro 1 WC ... Wow man
spain is top. Hungary didn't even had a Cup
niram ktm That hungary team was unbeaten for at least four years. Their favoritism was perhaps the biggest that any team ever had in a World Cup. And their first game loss was the final against Germany.
Paso sufriendo con Paraguay. Jajaja Brasil del 2002 era más fuerte
Brazil 1958?
this spanish squad was unreal
Classy puyol! i'm a madrid fan but after the game puyol went to every single german athlete for a handshake and to comfort them !
True Legend
Forwards in massive form
Extra ordinary skilled midfielders
Reputed defenders
number one goalkeeper at the moment
All pieces together makes a one master of football - 2010 Spanish team - there will never be a team again like this
Saw the match and was totally amazed at the domination of spain..What a team that was..
As a Real Madrid supporter this man was definitely one of the best of all times! Definitely had all the traits of a top captain
Puyol the heart of a lion❤
Germany had a strong team storming the other teams in previous games by scoring 4s against teams like Argentina, England and Australia, but Spain managed this game to control the ball and prevent the Germans from having it.
Spain did not look very solid in previous rounds against lighter teams because all those teams played purely defensive against them. They exploded this game and deserved a game they controlled.
Simply Spain was at its peak, and Germany was just on the rise, where they would reach their peak 4 years later.
Just seeing this after Spain's painful exit from the Round of 16 2022.
Its because spain doesn't play the beautiful football they once used to play.
They don’t have the players they once had to run that heavy possession play style lacking strikers that can finish
Because now they play Spaniards instead of Catalonians.
Puyol is one of the greatest legends in Spanish football history
It's Spain vs Germany once again in wc 2022 🔥🔥
Na Argentina is winning this year🇦🇷🇦🇷
one of my best childhood memory..Puyol Scoring,Spain Winning and Germany Loosing
Hammad Asif I'm from Spain I was only 5 or 6 and still remember my dad and his friends yelling and celebrating

What if he is.
And your best teenage memory is when spain humiliated in group phase while germany got their 4th world cup in 2016

Quarter final won by Villa
Semi Final won by Puyol
Final won by Iniesta
All made Barcelona proud
I think germany in 2010 was strongest than 2014 they had beat england 4-1 and argentine 4-0 but stopped by spain in semi-final that had a golden generation
After the golden generation too. 6-0 😅
A few days ago Germany won the world cup and Spain was humiliated in the group phase. How things change. Never give up!

Semi final
🇩🇪 Germany 0:1 Spain 🇪🇸
Goal:
Carles Puyol 73' 2:59 🇪🇸
I cried on this day, but 4 years later I was celebrating 😂
Spain deserved that WC when you how they played back there
This was one of the 3 matches I saw in person in South Africa, but my seats for this game was the left corner behind one of the goals.
Joe Durant Germany was flattered by its opponents and eventually Spain made Germany look the way they made England look
Who said that ? I was 100% convinced before the semi final that Spain was much stronger side and Germany was simply no match for Spain in 2010
@@ahmedhamada1250 Some said the tikki takka boring style wouldnt hold against Germanys full attacking playstyle since Germany had scored more goals than Spain in the Wc2010 til semifinals. However as it turned out it completely worked, Germany couldnt compete here
@@MrKaravaj bruuuh we had legit 0 chance, this spain wasnt beatable 😂 u can only score if u get the ball and spain did not give it
Spain were on another level this World Cup 2010.
Wild. Yamal was 3yrs old at that time, kroos playing in the world cup. Today they faced each other and the 3yr old won.
Puyol goal was one of the best headers I have ever seen. What a header that was
Go to 3:58, at the end of the game, Puyol's priority was to thank German players and make them feel better.
I think the 2010 World Cup was by far one of the best like the crowd atmosphere and then the starting squads most teams had like come on they were all in their prime .
2:00 Damn, look at this outstanding piece of fancy teamwork by Spain. Too bad they didn't scored...
I was supporting and praying for Spain that time. I was very happy when Spain won the world cup. I am Indian and I love Spain and Latin american countries.
First world cup I watched in my life
The greatest football team of all time. Every player at every position in this team was world-class. No team would come close to this in 100 years.
Nope
@@francescotrombetta8548 😊👍
Despite being a Madridista, you gotta love Puyol and Iniesta. Man, I love them.
But they had chances against Spain and only Lost 0:1 against Spain which was the result of Puyols Header !😁
80svideoluvr since when were england strong
Germany had a harder route than spain though.
In 2014 and 2006 we actually had hard enemies aswell
06: Argentinia and Italy
14: France, Brazil (I mean, b4 the match started brazil were actually favourites) and Argentinia ☝🏻
I think we just had the easy route in 2002 😂😂😂
Spain's golden generation ❤
Probably the most deserved world cup winner of all time. Congrats from Germany. No one came even near that brilliance.
This was the best World Cup! Spain winning the World Cup for the first time 🌟
and Spain will never win another world cup.

@fknosf dahbfiqwfhi i agree with you , thats more better .. Cannavaro, Maldini, Nesta.. whos else bro? 😎
03:09 Pique jumped behind Puyol to shield him from German defenders
the way puyol goes for the ball in the air with no regard for his own skull is insane.
Puyol.
David Villa.
Iniesta.
Xavi.
Ramos.
Pique.
Pedro.
Wow what a Spanish Team that was.
This spain team was iconic all of my fav players are here
i watch that match and it was a novel dance. Spain played as they wanted. It was incredible. The best spain match of that world cup
When you beat a full strength german side, you know your team is something special
Without Muller they aren't full strength bro
This was a great game, the best of the WC 2010 and one of the best i've seen in this tournament's history.
Spain's a great side but I don't think there will ever be a Spanish side as good as we saw in 2010. So many great players with great skill.
Once in a while I revisit this to bring back those golden days.
Can't believe that it's been 11 years since I watched this as a boy in my home city in S.A!
Spain will never have another team like this, sadly
One of the best semifinals ever seen. Spanish side was incredibile, I remember they missed a lot of clear occasions in this game.
Beside being one of the best defender puyol has a golden heart under his probe❤️ love from india

Paul Pogba - The Future also Casillas and iniesta, the 3 of them are legends..
Diego Rivera Yes, Xavi is one you forgot to mention.
Viva España 🇪🇦 Campéon del Mundo. Qué equipazo fueron inolvidable.
