They actually did a estudio recording of the songs, but some of the actors decided to sing live during the scene to add more emotion too. Then they mixed both audios and choose the best vocals from each, and created an awesome number.

Missing this movie!! I am reminiscing about those times when I was a kid my grandmother got angry because I watched Mamma Mia a hundred like literally 4 times a day! Well the reason why is that I Idolizes Meryl so bad until now!! I just love the sequence of this movie!

Wish my Mom had lived to see this! She loved ABBA and loved musicals. Passed it down to me though. I’ve seen both movies at least a dozen times.
Im 62 yrs ,a fan of ABBA music and watched mama mia 1-2 movies in the cinema but my tre kids are the opposites.

Pascal Figura They definitely recorded it in a studio, but I think what they ended up using in the film was a mixture of live & recording. Cause there are times you can tell it’s them singing live vs the soundtrack.
she sang live on every take of every song. even when she was on the cliff singing the winner takes it all
