  • Filmed by Brad Lancaster. This firefly larva is well known for its conspicuous ambulation in open areas at night, easily located by its random glows. It occurs throughout southern Arizona and you'll see it at Peña Blanca Lake in southern Arizona too.

    Some years ago (maybe 2006) we saw loads of fireflies at Tanque Verde HS on the baseball fields after dark. Quite a sight for Tucson!
