Hello. Fun police here. This is WAY too much anti-aircraft fire for 1942.
Kaga's flak couldn't follow a dive bomber through it's run. Her Type 91 director was not tachymetric and could not track targets moving in three dimensions. All it could do was fire a barrage at a fixed point in space and hope something got hit as it flew through it.
She only had 15 twin 25mm machine guns, and these could not produce the volume of fire seen here. Each barrel fired 260 rounds per minute from a 15 round magazine, giving about 4 seconds of continuous fire. This is also about how long it took to load the guns, so only one barrel was fired at a time. The gunners would alternate between barrels so that one was shooting while the other was reloading. They fired contact fused shells that did not generate flak bursts.
We can see 24 warships in a ring at 1:53 with Kaga in the center. Kido Butai only had 21 ships in total and they did not use a ring formation. Each carrier had one plane guard destroyer that tried to stay less than 1,000 meters from the carrier, but every other ships was at least 8,000 and as much as 20,000 meters away to give them room to maneuver and avoid air attack and to act as aircraft early warning pickets. In other words, they were out of range of each other's anti-aircraft guns. The only help Kaga could expect would come from the two 25mm machine guns on her plane guard destroyer.
Thank you for your cooperation. You may now resume your enjoyment of the Hollywood spectacle.
