For eight centuries, Barcelona Cathedral has silently observed the city's evolution. In the 13th century, King Jaume II, known as "the Just," made the decision to erect a temple on the grounds of an earlier Romanesque church. The construction, backed by fraternities and guilds, spanned over 150 years without interrupting religious services.
Today, the Catedral de Barcelona stands as a prime example of Gothic art within the city. Each day, numerous visitors capture images of the imposing 70-meter-high Neo-Gothic facade. However, venturing onto the cathedral steps reveals a captivating realm waiting to be explored. The interior boasts over 215 rib vault keystones, offering a glimpse of the cathedral's magnificence. Within, one can discover the crypt of Santa Eulàlia, 29 dedicated chapels, and a grand altar topped by a striking Gothic stained glass window. For the observant, a hidden gem awaits in the form of a hockey game carved into the choir stalls.
