Hi, thanks for the comment. There's only minor differences between them. The song / style stop, start buttons have been put where the registration / song memory buttons are on the 403. So in effect these buttons have been swapped over. There's some different styles, extra entries in the music database list and 50 extra arpeggio patterns. Is it worth paying the extra for this over the 403? Probably not in my opinion, however the choice is yours.
Further information that you may find useful. E403 has 504 voices including the drum kits, sound fx etc, 155 styles, 30 built in songs. There are 50 arpeggio patterns. Connections at back are headphones, DC power, foot switch input and USB to host. There is no lyric display function like on the PSR-K1. You can transpose the keys up and down to extend the bottom range of notes, however you may run of keys for the higher notes.
Both models don't have a USB to device slot, meaning that you cannot plug in a USB pen / drive to load or play midi files like for the more expensive DGX / MM / Motif / tyros model range. The YPT's have a USB to host connector for linking up to a PC via a standard USB A to B lead. You can also purchase a USB to midi 5 pin din type of lead if you want to connect the keyboard to midi controllers or other keyboards which have the standard 5 pin din midi conector. I haven't tried this myself.

Hi, This is a good keyboard to start off with, however please note that the keys are soft touch and do not feel like a proper piano and there are only 61 keys compared to 88 on full size instrument. The feel will take some getting used to. You may find a used PSR-E403 better value than a new PSR-E413 - there are only minor differences in spec between them.
Hi, it is ideal for a beginner who wants extra features such as arpeggio, pitch bend wheel and synth control knobs. If you're more serious with the piano playing side, want proper piano touch with 88 keys then look elsewhere. The YPT-410 is just another name for PSR-E413.
@lukashuk You're welcome. They've updated the models now, so the latest version is the PSR-E423. I doubt you can buy the older PSR-E403 new now, however the PSR-E413 might still be available. No major differences between them, just more voices, styles, arpeggios and case styling in the new models
Hi, Out of the two the E403 is the more flexible as it has pitch bend and four synth knobs. The voice quality should be the same. A used E403 at a good price will be a better buy than a new E413 or E323. The E413 doesn't not offer much more over the E403. The E403 does have some drawbacks if you purely want to learn piano. First the keys are not weighted like on an acoustic piano and there are only 61keys instead of 88. A piano teacher would advise to get a digital piano with weighted keys

Midi is a form of communication between instruments or computers and instruments which send details of note pitch, duration, loudness, type of instrument etc as a series of a string of numbers along a cable. A standard set of commands and numbers is used to represent the musical information. The midi file just consists of this data and can be decoded, played back as a song by a midi enabled device
There's 30 built in songs, though I'd say about 11 are for actual learning. There's a further 70 on a CD. Songs include - Ave Maria, Fur Elise, Maple Leaf Rag, Amazing Grace, Scarborough Fair, Nocturne op.9-2, Arabesque, Turkish March, Entertainer, Little Brown Jug, Ode to Joy, Canon in D, O Christmas Tree
Hi. The sweet trumpet is ok, trombone is reasonable. Remember the price of this keyboard compared to the demos of other models in the Yamaha range. It is 1/10th of the price of Tyros3.
The E403/413/423/433 will have arpeggiators and two control knobs for controlling the sound such as cutoff, resonance, release etc. I believe the 433 now has a USB to device feature which makes loading styles and saving your own performance a lot easier. I guess the sound of the instruments is basically the same throughout
@keithy501 You mean to transfer sounds,tones,styles bla bla etc. into a memory of the keyboard? what if I'm going to use the keyboard on a software like reason sonar or cubase do I need a good internal memory on the keyboard to play some different sounds on the keyboard running on a software record some music with different voices?
Hi, it has several electric guitars, however, in my opinion they are a bit of a letdown. Go for the MM6 model if this instrument sound is important to you.
whats this model's relationship to the YPT-400? It looks like it and the sounds seem identical. I just got my YPT 400 tho i haven't had time enough yet to muck with it i think it's gunna be a fun toy.

It does have 76 keys which makes it easier for piano pieces which have lower bass notes and higher treble clef notes. The keys and not weighted though like on YPG-635 and MM8 etc. Styles are close to the E403 with intro and endings
@princeicio If you're going to play piano type pieces more, go for 76 keys. Larger memory only useful when transfering new styles or if you want to play midi files
@realjuvelive Not on this model. Nearest would be Yamaha DGX500/505/520/530 or DGX620/630/640 but these do not have the synth functions. Otherwise Yamaha MM8 but no intro/endings in the styles
Personally, I would get a used E403 rather than a new E413. The newer model has more apreggio patterns, more entries in the music database and probably a couple of extra styles / voices(or revamped ones). However if you're not going to use the arpeggio and music database much than the E403 is better value.
@realjuvelive Yes. You may also want to look at the Yamaha NP-V60 and NP-V80. It seems most of the demos I've seen on youtube are non-english speaking versions.

I'm not familar with a macbook or garageband, but I guess you'll need the USB driver for mac which is under the support section of yamaha's website, so that the software will see the keyboard as a midi device. Latest version of the USB driver is 1.3.2 for OS 10.5.8 / 10.6.8 / 10.7.8 and 10.8.x. There are other versions of the driver for earlier mac os

@elgoose2003 I'm not familar with this software, however if it handles midi devices then it should see the keyboard as a midi input when the 403 is connected to the PC via the USB cable and the program should then read the midi note data when you press a key and play it's own sound
How did you get sustain? Was it in the piano like some keyboards or was it a sustain pedal. i want to know if I can do that with my 403 because when I press the function key I only have StyleVol. Do I need to download drivers?
keithy501 click the function button and keep pressing the up arrow until you reach something called M. release. and then just increase or decrease there :)
Hi, I can't seem to transpose my keyboard (psr-e403) I know to click the function, and change the category to transpose. I then click the - or + button to the pitch I want. But the sound of my keyboard still remains in C. Is there a button I am suppose to click to activate it? I also tried saving it the bank. But it still remains in C. Is it just my keyboard? Thanks.
Hi, Thanks for watching the demo. I like Sabbath, Priest, Dio. I don't believe this keyboard would be suitable for you as heavy metal guitar sound is not a strong point on this model and you may be limited by the polyphony. It will record as fast as you play. Check out the demos on MM6, Motif ES/XS as they may be more suitable. I'm not familiar with Roland, Korg.
Yamaha is notorious for compatibility issues, so be careful when shopping for an audio interface. Google for specific problems encountered with your particular elements. If you're going into Garageband, the keyboard is merely a controller triggering GB sounds. May as well get a cheap Casio (worse baked-in sounds but, better compatibility) on Craig's List.

Basically you store one instrument in one registration memory (A) and another in the registration memory (B) and then switch between them using the registration buttons
Great demo,, I am planning to sell mine,, can I please link to your video in the Craigslist ad? Will be helpful for prospective buyers to get the idea of this keyboard's great capabilities. Its tough to part with this wonderful keyboard after I had it for two years (in US) and now its time for me to go back to India, taking it with me on flight will be costly,, and even if I ship it back home, I don't trust the postal service in my country to deliver it safely.
@SilentGProduction If you're an experienced musician at making this kind of music then an advanced model would be better. I know Yamaha tend to push the MM6 for this kind of application. You could also go down the route of a midi controller and use the sounds within Reason / Ableton etc
+exe044 try opening it up without it plugged in and cleaning the circuit board with rubbing alcohol, a qtip or better a small nylon brush. If there is any dirt or dust rub the brush on a cloth now and then.
@keithy501 Actually the psr-e423 looks like this one it's nice but I'm really confused cause I was thinking about getting the ypg-235 but the ypg-235 is only 373KB internal memory psr-e423 is 1.8MB internal memory but the ypg-235 is 76 keys :S
The manual on pages 63 and 64 explain how to do this with a 5/8 example. You cannot change the time signature of a style. Basically hold down the metronome on/off button until timesign appears on the the display. Turn the dial wheel to the required number of beats in a measure e.g. 2,3,4,6 etc. Then press category up and down button to show timesigd on the display and use the dial wheel to select what beat each note will be e.g. 2,3,4,6,8 etc

To me it has the advantage of being portable and the 2 headphone sockets is a nice feature. Looks like they're offering the flexibility of a basic digital piano and a midi controller in one unit. The keys are only semi-weighted so they would seem light, but it's down to personal preference and you'd need to actually play one in a shop to see how good the sample sounds are
You pay for what you get. It cannot or expect to match a MM6 (motif sounds). It's aimed at novice players who want a bit more than a basic keyboard can offer. I wish it had a USB to device slot and better guitar sounds. You can always upgrade once you've learn the basics of playing
@TheAmazingProduction - @TheAmazingProduction - Thanks. For the voice just a basic PC Microphone which was recorded after the various parts on the keyboard (hence the background noise). The keyboard itself was connected from the headphone socket to the PC's line in on the sound card and Steinberg's Wavelab was used. Video was from a Logitech Quickcam Fusion webcam. I had to synch the sound of the keyboard to the video of playing it using XP Moviemaker, so it may be out of synch slightly.

The flute sounded great, the alto sax so-so. How are the brass sounds on this keyboard? Trumpet, trombone and so on.

I believe that the first 3 demo songs are different and that the 410 is a darker colour. Otherwise they are the same.

Hi, yes, you should be able to use it with FL Studio. I had a quick go with the program demo.

@whitelia92 Hi, Try turning the data wheel instead of +/- buttons and as you're turning keep pressing the same note to see if the note changes pitch.

How do you change the time signature? The manual doesn't give enough steps.

The keyboard itself was connected from the headphone socket to the PC's line in on the sound card and Steinberg's Wavelab was used. Video was from a Logitech Quickcam Fusion webcam. I had to synch the sound of the keyboard to the video of playing it using XP Moviemaker, so it may be out of synch slightly.
