Cool, thanks for sharing, I am a newbie to all the geological words you use to describe things but appreciate it as it gives me direction to read and learn.
Awesome, no wonder it reminded me of Superior!!! Ha!!! Don't make it to the south shore to often, but we love to ski at Mount Bohemia come winter time in the Keewena! Being from the Soo, we spend a ton of time on the north shore of Superior...so great to see some views from acrosss the lake. Have a great time exploring.
Brother Dunne thanks! You too! I love the north shore too! We will be up there next year. I miss the Soo. This gneiss is related to the gneiss near Wawa.
When I was a teenager, I would've had a blast exploring an island like that. Now, I'm content watching you do it. lol That's really cool how those layers come together & I would definitely have assumed those ripples on that rock were from water erosion. I never would've considered the cooling process could cause that.
If no one knew this was Lake Superior, some people would suspect that this was the ocean, Lake Superior being an inland sea. Quite fitting that the rocky shore has a red tint to it. This being a region where copper mining has long been important.
Cool stuff. Lots of neat rocks together there. Is the Jacobsville Keeweenaw rift clastics? Any basalt flows with it? I saw that unit up at Pictured Rocks a few weeks ago.
Geoscience Imaging yes. The Jacobsville is rift fill clastics. It’s the youngest. In 2016 I wrote a paper correlating it to the Bayfield in WI. There are no known lava flows in it. That was one of the goals to see if any of the Keweenaw dikes intrude the Jacobsville. We didn’t observe any. Then again, we didn’t do the NE side of the island because there were literally 30 people over on it.
Jamie Eckles it only got aboot 3 feet deep at its deepest. Unfortunately, there are very little critters on the island. It’s indurated with people during the summer. It’s also not that big. Maybe 2000 feet along its longest length. I have a preliminary geologic map but we need to go back.
Grabbing more of your time - Watching and Supporting! LIKING another video!
That is a charming little island. Great setting for a movie, haha. Well done!!! :-)
Adele Celeste thanks!

Steven Baumann so not much in terms of age constraints? About 1.1 Ga or??
I love that island
Lynda's House of CHILL its so awesome!
I wanna go there's big thumbs up
Exploring the Geology of Little Presque Isle
How deep was it at the deepest part of your walk across? I don't guess there are any medium to large critters on the island?
Jamie Eckles it only got aboot 3 feet deep at its deepest. Unfortunately, there are very little critters on the island. It’s indurated with people during the summer. It’s also not that big. Maybe 2000 feet along its longest length. I have a preliminary geologic map but we need to go back.
Is der gold in dem hills? I assume yes cause of that vein.
Ha! Although related to the Wawa geologic province in Ontario, which is gold bearing, it lacks the needed greenstones.
Da-fuq? You got another video uploaded as I’m typing. Cheers!
