Bir Ji. I know that you know it, as you are his brother and spent a long time with him, that he sang almost saintly towards his later stage. I don't have any formal knowledge of music , but I dare say, he had perhaps one of the best Alaaps in the entire music fraternity in India and abroad. People knew Ghaib. He immortalized Ghaib and his poetry and in doing so, he became immortal himself

Yea you are right Rajeev He had that divine touch to his music not only towards his later stage but right from the beginning of his musical journey I have frequently stressed the fact that it was because of his being born in a family which was very much involved in religious activities & Sikh tradition of following music in its true colours Ghalib too had that streak of divinity in him That’s why these two make the lethal combination

@@kartarsingh3639 Bir Ji, I first heard him in 1981 at Mahajatiya Sadan in Calcutta. I had just joined Philips in India and stayed in Rishra a Calcutta with my seniors and other colleagues. There in that factory, was one Mr. Chandak . He claimed that he knew Guru Ji ( Pundit Shri Jagjit Singh Ji ) very well as he played music with him. He showed me a picture of them doing music together when Guru Ji was still wearing turban.
I offered him to pay for his ticket if he could make me meat him. Chandak accepted it.
At the interval he took me to the green room where there was a long queue of his fans to meet him . Chandak wrote a small note and asked the door man to go and tell Guru Ji that Chandak is here and would want to see him. After a while the door man came and said Chandak can go in. Chandak pushed me forward to go in and told the door man I am going in because this Young boy wants to meet him. We both went in. Trust me Bir Ji. Guru Ji recognized Chandak , and asked how he was doing. Guru Ji told him that he has to shortly go to another concert that had something to do with Ahmed and Mohammed Hussain parents.
Chandak told him that this young boy ( me) wanted to see him. Chitra Ji was there too. I touched Guru Ji's feet there for the first time in my life.
I wanted his autograph but had no paper with me. I had a 100 rupees note in my wallet and I requested him to autograph that. In typical Jagjit Singh Ji style he said that " tera note invalid ho jayega" as he signed the note where the RBI Governor signature is. I told him Sir main iss note nu RBI mein jama karva doonga ga.
I kept it with me a very long time. But I perhaps unknowingly used that note.. I promised myself that one day I would have him visit my home and have dinner cooked by me.
Well of course that never happened. I could and can never afford that. Lol.
But after that I heard him live twice in Bahrain and thrice in Toronto and had the good luck to meet him and touch his feet on almost every occasion.
A few years after Guru Ji went to heaven, . My daughter got me a birthday gift of naming a Star in Orion Galaxy after some one I like.
My wife Namrata was pleasantly angry that I named the star as Jagjit
I have a certificate that I have the rights on that star in Orion Galaxy and it is named as Jagjit.
For me he is way more than kaagaz ki Kashti. He is my spiritual guru. His Alaaps are uplifting . To me I connect to Almighty through his voice.
If you can post his old and or unheard classical renditions pls post them.
And if there is any way I would want to share with you Chitra Ji that certificate about the star that is named after him.
