Sometimes the only honor due to parents is the obligation to forgive the evil they have done to their children. Anything more is pure grace. Some parents have sexually, physically or emotionally abused their children to the point of malicious neglect and revoked thier parental rights. Their children are then only obliged to forgive, they owe them nothing more.
I am not Jewish/Israeli- but I am a human being. I only wanted to say, THANK YOU for sharing this video, and explaining what and how these relationships can be much more complex than a simple sentence written in a sacred text in and of itself. I have my own beliefs, but my personal philosophy is to find the common ground elements that all of humanity share, and to understand what is behind the ideology, and where it comes from. That and the power of forgiveness and discretion and how to build trust, respect and understanding, as a foundation to try and live up to, with of course the eventual hope, that ALL may co- exist in peace despite our differences.
Well if that's the case ima start knocking up a bunch of bar flys and disappear just to come back 18 years later with my undeserved since of self intitelment and my long list of demands 😂@@BigJFindAWay
Rabbi Shaul gave similar instruction: '"Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them.' Extract from his letter to believers in Ephesus (Ephesians 6:2-5).
Surprising that you're not yet "teen friendly", given your interspersed humor. One day you'll be more popular with teens RST. Indirectly you influence them when parents and adults gain from your teachings.
I’ve wondered how do you keep this commandment when your parent is unrighteous and doesn’t respect the child. What should a righteous person do in this case?
Rabbi, it would be best to speak from the children's perspective. Many parents would struggle to balance, especially if they also have CPTSD and co-dependency issues.
What about parents that physically and sexually abuse their children,do they deserve honor too? does merely just reproducing alone really intitle someone to honor?or is honor earned through more honorable actions other than just having unprotected sex that results in a pregnancy?
I only wish you could hear what your "Hebrew" sounds like to Hebrew speakers. It is very important to speak normative Hebrew because pronouncing as you do, you give the Arabs fuel to accuse us of not being native to Israel because the pronunciation is wholly Western, not Semitic at all, and incomprehensible. I have to hear your English translations to know what you said in your "Hebrew".
I have news for you. The Hebrew pronunciation spoken in Israel is even less accurate and farther from the Ancient Hebrew pronunciation than the Ashkenazi Hebrew this rabbi uses. At least Ashkenazi Hebrew differentiates between the segol and tzere vowels and the kawmatz and patach vowels. Modern Israeli Hebrew does not. At least Ashkenazi Hebrew acknowledges that the taf with a dagesh and without a dagesh have different sounds. Modern Israeli Hebrew does not. If you go to any Sephardi or Edot HaMizrah synagogue where they k ow their traditions you will see that they are NOT using Modern Israeli Hebrew in their services but their own cultural pronunciations.
We don’t serve a God of confusion. The Bible translates into all languages. It would be better to pick a language to teach in with love and respect for the unlearned ❤️🔥

Thank you I needed to hear this. I have always told my children that I take no prisoners if they choose to walk away.❤

Thank you for sharing this teaching with us Rabbi Shais Taub.
Too many people were abused and/or neglected by their parents.
What are the limits there?
According to Maimonides, only to ensure that their parents have housing, clothing, food, and care.
Great point.

Oy.
Judahism is guilty of changing GOD'S laws, the law of Moshe.
