I tried it once by following a recipe from YT and kept it in fridge for good 36 hours before consuming it. Though it tasted really good. This looks so great! I have a question please- How do I halve this recipe and adjust baking time? I want to make this just for my husband and myself so such a large cake would be too much for us. Thank you!
Thank you!! :) You can simply half the quantities (I have a button on my recipe card on my blog that will help you do this automatically) and then use a smaller baking tin (an 8 or 9 inch round tin should work well). Because the thickness of the cake is roughly the same, the baking time will be around the same as the original recipe, but just test it by gently touching the top and if it slowly bounces back the cake is ready (you can use a toothpick to check too). Hope that helps! :)

Hi MK! This is my daughter's favorite cake! But I have a question. Why add oil? Have always heard that sponge cakes do not have any fat. But this looks delicious! I guess it is time to update my recipe 😊
Hi Belle! Great question :) So some sponge cakes don't have any fat, and some have a little (like a genoise sponge). I just find that a tad bit of oil helps to keep the cake super soft and moist. Sometimes there can be bits of a tres leches cake that may not be soaked as well as other bits, so the extra oil just helps to make sure that you never get a dry bite! :) Hope you enjoy the recipe :D
Ok so stupid question but do you wash your beater blades to get rid of the whites before using them to beat the yolks or would wiping be ok? Also where I live temperatures can reach 45 C or 115 F for almost half the year. In such weather eggs whites return to their liquid form pretty quickly. Can one refrigerate them while you’re whipping the yolks to avoid that?
Thank you Zeenat! :D Unfortunately for this recipe, with it being a sponge cake it relies heavily on the eggs for its structure and rise. I don't think you'll be able to replicate it by substituting the eggs with buttermilk or yoghurt. It might be best to search for an eggless tres leches cake recipe :) Sorry about that!
Hi there! :) You can simply leave it out and make a more simple whipped cream (the recipe for the simple version is on the video and in my blog post - cakesbymk.com/recipe/the-best-tres-leches-cake/) You could also use cream cheese but it does change the taste of the whipped cream :)

Hola! :D For the sprinkles disappearing, it's best to use a brand that uses artificial color not natural color, and the sprinkles should be relatively firm :) For preserving cake layers, I would recommend wrapping them in cling wrap and placing into an airtight container until you are ready to use them the next day :) Hope that helps!

In the Stabilized Whipped Cream, can Philadelphia cream cheese be used to replace the Mascarpone? I cannot afford the latter. Would I increase the sugar?

I’ve never tried a layered Tres Leches before, but I imagine if you soak the cakes while you’re assembling the layer cake and then let it sit for a while to soak up the milk it should work fine? It would probably be too hard to move the cake layers if they’re soaked beforehand - if that makes sense! I’ll have to try it out sometime and maybe share a recipe 😀

What can I use instead of mascarpone in this? It’s not available in my country
OK, I add Baileys creamer or Kahlua coffee liqueur. You can also make a mocha tres leches, strawberry I am telling you sky's the limit.

Heya! :) Good question! I’ve never tried a layered Tres Leches before, but I imagine if you soak the cakes while you’re assembling the layer cake and then let it sit for a while to soak up the milk it should work fine? It would probably be too hard to move the cake layers if they’re soaked beforehand - if that makes sense! I’ll have to try it out sometime and maybe share a recipe 😀
