This video is a life saver! I'm currently studying graphic design and you explained everything detailed rather than my professor. Thank you so much! ❤️
I've been working on my first graphic novel for some time now, and I knew that beyond illustrating my images, the design of the book (more specifically, learning InDesign) would be one of my biggest hurdles to overcome. Nope. Pretty sure you just answered all my questions in ten minutes. Thank you. Bravo!
Hi FF, good day, just read your comment. Wanted to ask you if you learned it, and more importantly, learning InDesign was worth it to create high quality ebooks given so many other options available in the market? Really appreciate your response. Thank you.
Terminology: 0:45 Margins - Everyone should know if you've written book assignments. 😉 0:52 Gutter - Space between pages specifically when bound as in the middle of the book when opened. 1:11 Bleed - Work area that will be trimmed. I'm having a little trouble. I have my text boxes on my A-MASTER and it is the primary text flow but whenever I go to the actual page with the master applied it wont let me paste text? The text is still locked behind the amaster?
Great video - I followed your instructions exactly, but there's no text box on the pages like yours. When I go to paste, text I have to create a text box for each page. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
Hi! It sounds like the text boxes might not have been set up correctly in your template. Double-check that you're following the steps for creating text boxes on the master pages, as these should automatically appear on all your document pages. If the text boxes are missing, you might need to add them manually to your master pages, which will then propagate to all the pages in your layout. Hope this helps, cheers!
I tried applying the filler text to the primary text frame in A Parent, But it did not create additional pages. Any idea what I need to do here? Thank you for your help!
thank you for this but I have a question as I am doing something complicated. I am creating a book in two languages and my plan is to have one page in one language and the page facing it in the other language. What would be the best way to format that?
Maybe a bit late for you, but I had the same issue and just found out how to do it. You need to hold Ctrl + Shift when selecting the text box and it will then become editable.
I did the A and B master but put the text in which created a bunch of pages but then when I went to the first page and put the B over it to make the chapter, it does it but doesn't push all the text into other pages, just pushes the text down so half it isn't even on anything, did I miss something. I'm having to learn this program as got no money left and the person I did pay to do my book format screwed up several times
Really good tutorial, unfortunately my adobe in design didn't automatically create its own text blocks, nor did it create more pages when I copied in my first chapter, so this quickly failed for me
Where can I find design elements for s fiction novel. My novel that I need to republish has design elements at the chapter heading, i.e., a feather draping the chapter title and page, and each page was made to look like it's written on leather. Where do I find those type of elements for a fiction novel?
I need to aks this that when I add a new chapter and the primary page of the chapter - b master take the "chapter one "numbering but how do I change it to chapter two or three??
This is great and easy to follow along! But I have a question or two. When on the B-Parent page, and I type "chapter 1", I can't edit that on the actual page, say when I need to add chapter 2. And when I get to chapter 2, how do I paste the chapter and not have it just start immediately after on the same page as chapter 1? Oh! And then when I go back to A-Parent because it seems to have not kept the chosen paragraph settings, it doesn't allow me to edit the text block of A-Parent anymore
You can edit a text frame, which you have made in a master page and have added to the "actual" page by holding Ctrl+Shift (Windows) or Command+Shift (Mac) and clicking on the text frame. Then you will be able to edit it freely! I hope this helps
I followed the tutorial to combine the multiple chapters in one file, but my chapters are spread pages, and when I create the .pdf for printing the file don't make the last single page of one chapter to be beside the first single page of the next chapter. Can you please tell me how to do it?
I use Indesign 2020 because it says that it provides Myanmar Unicode System. The Myanmar font displayed right in sentences where Myanmar words are mixed with Korean and Chinese languages. But when the sentence contained Arabic (the MiddleEast Language), the Myanmar font was messed up and didn't display in the correct order. I would like to know why it keeps happening, what the error is and what I can do to make it right again? Thank you.
thank you. BUT I NEED HELP! I tried to export the whole book with each of the chapters and it's only exporting the chapter I am on. I have tried several times and even tried looking for other videos on YT and Envato specifically and nothing that I can see. HOW DO I EXPORT ALL THE CHAPTERS AS ONE BOOK?
just place the Microsoft word file into InDesign then simply hold shift and double click .. Indesign will simply great all pages for you and make it into one book
B master. How to have it say "chapter 2" if it already says chapter 1 in the master and doesn't let me change it on the page itself. How to change the chapter numbers on next chapters?????????? Do I have to duplicate the master page again and again to do this or there is another way?
On a Mac, hold down shift+command and click on the text you want to edit. This will unlock the text on the page and won't mess up your parent page. I'm not sure what the key commands are on a PC.
can you tell how to make the side section of book on which page number table of content are mention the structure of book in side how to make it i design book from your tutorial but i dont know how to make that
The video tutorial is great! But I must be doing something wrong… once I create my parent pages and apply they don’t actually work :( the text box is correctly formatted but then I can’t use it?! I don’t won’t to format the fonts in each and every page, can someone help please?
@@helenelegault719 Maybe a bit late for you, but I just found out how to do this. Hold Ctrl + Shift when selecting the text box on your page and it will become editable and override the Master page.

His all tutorials are always awesome 👍😎 love 💕 them
Sameee 💗
i thought it was a dreadful complicated mess
If anyone has issues, remember to override your pages. I couldn't see any primary textboxes until I did this. Great tutorial.
Can you explain that? My pages don't have text boxes, even though I'm going step by step.

Hello ! Nice ! 😊 Thank you ! How to make a very successful front/back cover ?😍🤩
How do I change the document set up. My version of InDesign does not have inches. It has 52pO width for example..... ?
Perfect beginner tutorial ! Thank you so so much, this has helped me alot :))
Very well explained - thank you!
thanks I got my answer....
Very helpful for a beginner like me. But I can't seem to edit the Chapter text. Your tutorial stops short of that so maybe you have a suggestion.....

LOL Envato for the win again
I’m Having trouble getting the text to create its own pages, can you explain in more detail how you did that?
I think it's the checked box called ""primary text frame" at 2:22!

The problem is that Arabic is right to left while Myanmar is left to right reading. You can mix them in the same text box.

when im trying to drag the b master to the a master, it just overlaps, does anyone have a way to fix this?
best video
how to apply paragraph styles on 300+ pages ? its easy on 10 pages but what about 300+ when everything is messed up ?

Rainbow page numbers don't work
I am creating a book of quotes and I want some pages to be totally black and bleed over when i print in Amazon KDP. Is this possible?

Is there a way to put multiple frames on separate pages automatically?
it feels like the way you set up the chapter number it will always show "Chapter 1" as that is not automated
wooow
Tnx
Thank you for watching!🎉💚
how to enter equation in my book through indesign software
THANK YOU. You're the only one who showed me the inner gutter. WHoopeeee.
I need a tutorial for printing a 100 pages book, pls help I'm going crazy xD
Indesign won't create new pages for me when my text is longer than the page itself - does anyone know why that is?
I think it's the checked box called "primary text frame" at 2:22!
Handy
Is InDesign free ?
No, it's a subscription based license.
sorry but the indesign 2022 do not work the same so this can not be used to 2022 indesign as the master and page numbers are different
so complicated, you set it up then start saying lets change the gutter, lets change this and that, nightmare
thank you so much!
What an amazing tutorial. Thank you so much!
You're very welcome!
thank you
