😳 Best way to separate a Pygmy date is to NOT cut it but rather soak in a bucket of water and pull the dirt off and carefully untangle the roots. I’ve had success doing it this way
@@qxwt Just soak it, everything goes by itself later. But it takes years, i separated mines ,15 peaces for more than 3 hours. But it's fun, as knitting i would say :)
@@qxwt Just make sure you soak the plant and roots for good 2 days before starting. They fragile as hell but..the best way yet. Mature specimens can survive rough methods like root cut he did, but younger plants needs more tenderness
🌴Man... those of us who love plants felt every single saw at the roots. Man that's not how you separate the plants from each other. Water hose the roots to free the soil. And when you do, do so in the Fall or Winter. Pretty sure you killed the with that rusty saw. 🌴
I think he watched where they do the clean, sharp, single cut ,which is not uncommon for older specimens...but oh, boy, ooh boy....you had a fight with that thing literally.
I have a whole bunch of these they absolutely love water you cannot over water it too much some ive even had in big pots for many years and just fill the pot all the way up without a drain hole if it sits in water it loves it... of course I live in Vegas where it's 115 in the summer though
I just bought a small Pygmy Palm off the clearance rack and I’m researching how to take care of it and trying to figure out if it’s diseased or not. The tips of the fronds are browned and there were three point of growth, like the ones you have, one of which was cut off. I’m guessing it was dying or browning too much. Then at the top of the soil, the roots were showing. I got it home, put some unfertilized soil on top and gave it a little water. Overall it doesn’t look that bad. Maybe just a potassium deficiency? What are your thoughts? Thanks
@@SolidGoldShows nope, has a bunch of seeds. edit: Quick google search shows these are naturally single trunk species and are often planted in clumps to resemble multi trunk plants.
Yeah, it would be nice to have multiple trunks, but I wanted to propagate more pygmy date palms. The windmill palm that I recently bought has tri trunks that I am leaving as is.
Hi from France. Love this palmtree and the desert too ! 😍
Bonjour. Thank you for supporting our channel

@@SolidGoldShows can you try making a video of trying that? I love my pygmy date palm and I don’t want to kill it

Great video! I just purchased one yeaterday and was just wondering if i could seperate it. Thank you!
I suggest doing it on Spring time
what if I have 6 trunks on one and want to keep 3 trunks on my main plant
Cool
@@SolidGoldShows like, what do I do?
@@SolidGoldShows I am not trying to flex that

Almost the same weather 😆 we are averaging 100 degrees

It's probably root bound. Put it in a bigger container or on the ground so the roots have room to grow
you need to separate them in water in the winter time when the roots are dormant!
Thank you for the information
Why the dormancy is needed
Now that it has been 6 months since you separated them, did they all survive? I am thinking of doing the same with some I bought today.
It didn't survive. Wrong timing when I did it. It should be fine during Spring time 🙂
Some are bigger around at the trunk than other ones ,Will the fatter ones get taller
??? How do you get more plams from 1? I have these for a long time they never grow a new plant.
It never had babies? That's unusual

Hi ,Where did you buy those palm’s ?
I believe I bought it at Lowe's
I am sure you killed them!
What is the variety?
I believe it's a Phoenix Roebelenii
Great information thank you
how often to water these?
I water mine daily here in the desert since I just transplanted it to the ground. Every other day after a month
You should put a warning sign Do Not
Seriously
😆 🤣 😂
It’s best if you plant them how they come! They don’t propagate
I agree 👍 it was an experiment
WHY ON EARTH did you seperate them?
A LARGE part of their appeal is their Tri-Stalk ! (WTF) ???

@@SolidGoldShows I see...your goal was to multiple and spread them out. My mistake...lol
@@jjsiegal1 No problem
Holy shit . I feel like I witnessed murder . I wonder how the plants reacted to this
They survived for a year, but didn't make it due to lack of water access in our homestead at the time 😕
The guy at the garden center said those type will freeze below 30゚.🌱
I'll protect it during Winter time
They do need het and water they never growing in cold weather bellow 40

Peace be with you as well 🙏
