I’ve been exploring the Ozark National Forest for over a year now. Because of this video I’ve decided to definitely spend time in the Ouachita on this trip.
I grew up out here. We call your camping area The Bear Cave. Spent most of my teens out there catching craw dads in the creek and eating about half of them and using the rest for catfish bait. I’d stay 2-3 days nearly every weekend out there and never see another soul. I mean the occasional person but not many. We spent our youth running them creeks and trails out there. I still go often but it seems pretty popular and crowded these days. (Depending on time of year) still love it out there but unfortunately they have taken most the hard woods out and now it’s full of pines and cutovers. Not the woods we grew to love but still one of my favorite places. Glad you enjoyed it. :-)
Heading up to this area and stumbled upon your channel while looking for information for my upcoming trip. Great content! Ditto on enjoying your drone footage and the map you put together. Thanks for sharing. Happy trails.
hello from the sunny colorful ozarks mark!! love the ceder creek area! thanks for sharing these great camping areas with the cords! great to see ya back in adventure land!! tight lines and cheers!!
Man this video is bringing back some memories for me. I moved to Hot Springs Arkansas in 2000, bought a house in Hot Springs Village in 2004, and then Sprint laid me off in 2009 and I wound up in Missouri. Forked Mountain was one of those places I kept going to on a regular basis, it is peaceful. I was only about 30 minutes from Forked Mountain, and used to go there at least once a month. In an Arkansas August, Cedar Creek is rather refreshing. But don't pass on the opportunity to climb Forked Mountain, it is a rather mild climb that does not require any special gear, and the views are amazing.
Hey man ur vidz AR great.. We campd Nimrod lake few wkndz ago but I've always loved primitive and no pay... Lookn forward to getn out to some of our Beautiful Arkansas spots!!! Maybe see u you there!
Thanks 👍 Randy! Glad you enjoy the vids and I'll keep uploading as long as I got an audience who enjoys watching them. Lots of places to primitive camp in Arkansas. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the info on the camp site!! I’m going from Florida to Colorado in a couple days and was wanting to camp in the Ouachita National Forest for a couple days to break up that long drive.
Love your videos, they are very fun to watch and you do a first-rate job of filming. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your channel! Happy camping!
Great video. Thank you for sharing your camping spot finds! That creek looks awesome. We actually hiked that area this spring but were on what looked like an ATV road to the left of the trail and never found the waterfall. Walked through what seemed like a thousand huge spiderwebs across the trail 😂. Now we can go back and check out the creek and falls.
You should have hiked past the road closed sign and went to the bigger falls (Forked Mountain Falls) with a big swimming hole. And maybe even caught the sunset at Flatside Pinnacle. It's one of the best spots for a sunset in the state.
It is interesting to see a pothole being formed at 7:24. The large bolder setting there will be tumble around during high water and roll out, then next flood more stones will lodge in that crater and the pothole get bigger. I love your vids, nice work on all of them.
Great video Mark. Lovely area. That rock mountain by your camp site is pretty neat. Christmas is getting closer, time to use your Amazon link. Have a great day 👍🤝
Love that area. I've been to your camping spot, but that was many, many years ago. I always wanted to climb Forked Mountain, but waited too long. Once I could have scampered up it, but now it would take a chopper to get me to the top! I have a great photo from the Vista.
Went there today, Saturday 3-25. The road is closed about fifty feet from the bridge. About fifteen people camping there😂. Almost couldn't turn around. Thought I was going to have too back out, over the bridge to turn around.
Sounds like a group of campers are camping there. I don't remember a gate to close the road off. I think I went there in the summer. Nobody was there. Hopefully you had a back up plan. Did you have an RV with you?
@@tracyphillips3325 so theres a gate on the road now which is impassible? im guessing this land is now private property or something... was hoping to come out here soon but wont plan on it if thats the case!
@baadach3752 , I don't know if the gate is locked or not. It was crowded, and didn't want to walk through the campers. But I didn't see any, no trespassing signs
Another good video and Narration of the area your at. Thanks for posting. I am assuming from video and comments posted that this is a popular spot and you were there when it was not crowded. New to your channel and enjoying your content and editing style.
It looked like a popular spot, not for sure. Most folks don't camp out in August, to hot. I like it, not to many folks out dispersed camping that time of the year.
Yep. Me and my friends went out there when we were crazy teenagers for my mom’s memorial. We always called that place bear cave and called forked mtn “tittie” There’s a cave on the mtn you can squirm your way into and up through the mtn. It’s pretty sketchy though. …..been over 20 years
I sure hope you had fishing gear with you! Beautiful scenery. Thanks for taking me along on your adventure. Question; do you do most of your cooking in the camper, or outside? Thanks.
Not to hard. I don't know what you will be driving in, but at the end of the road where I'm at, there's not much room to turn around, especially if there are campers there all ready and you are pulling a travel trailer.
So where is Flat-sided pinnacle? I spent a lot of my weekends as a kid( 1958-1968) I 68 I went off to Vietnam. I lived near Paren. I live in Sherwood now.
Thank you for your service. I spent 20 years active duty Air Force and retired out of Little Rock AFB about five years ago and I'm really enjoying retirement. LOL Flatside Pinnacle is further east of Forked Mountain, on the east side of Flatside Wilderness. Here is a video I did on my visit to Flatside Pinnacle, and the coords to it is in the video description. ua-cam.com/video/6vb7QKrhTe0/v-deo.html
So I'm going to Ouachita this weekend to go camping with my wife. We're from Texas so we don't really understand how the dispersed camping works. Can you just set up just about anywhere in the National Forest, as long as it doesn't say otherwise? Of course we understand staying away from houses and fire towers, we want to be as far away from others as possible.
You are allowed to camp anywhere in the Ouachita NF as long as it isn’t private or leases land. It’s not always marked as private or leased either. If you choose any of my spots I’ve stayed at, you’ll be fine. If you stop at a rangers office, they can help out with maps.
Hello! Living my life through you because our camping days are no more because of our age. Thank you and Blessings to you and yours.😊
Thanks! Much appreciated!

Great spots. Beautiful places!
Glad you like them!
We drove out there with the kids a couple of years ago. Such a peaceful private area! We loved it.
It's a great place to visit for sure!
That's pretty country!
It was a great spot for sure!
I loved your video! Great swimming holes :)
Thank you so much!
Was at Crystal Springs Oct 15th- Oct 18th. Beautiful trail off campground.
That’s a nice campground and great hiking trail.
We’ve driven past there a couple of times on Trail 86, will definitely check it out next time we’re riding the roads.
It's a great location for some relaxation!

We love this place! We call it the grotto. We also call Forked Mountain “The Lonely Mountain” from The Hobbit.
I love those nick names. Especially the Lonely Mountain.
@@DispersedCamperMan It fits, doesn’t it
@@shrinkinshades It definitely does. LOL Out in ouachita, all by itself. It doesn't even have cell service. :-) I'd be lonely to.

I do most of my cooking inside. I don't want to have to mess with a grill, my storage space is limited. I cook something quick. Nothing fancy.

Camping directly under that limestone outcrop probably not a great idea. Like your waterfall Jacuzzi, Mark.
Been camping under there for 30 years:-)
Can you access this spot in a sedan? Are there any places that you can get stuck if it was wet? I plan on going with my girlfriend next week.
You should be good. If you come to a spot you don't like, turn around, or pull over and walk the rest of the way in.
