- There are many situations in home automation where some sort of remote control, like a push button, would be practical. For instance to switch a lamp back on after it was switched off by the HA controller.
Ikea has a few nice remote switches in its Trådfri collection that would be great for this kind of applications, but out-of-the-box they don't work with Home Assistant or other open-source home automation systems.
Zigbee2MQTT offers a solution. By adding a Zigbee adapter (re)programmed with Zigbee2MQTT's Z-Stack, integrating Ikea Trådfri devices suddenly becomes possible.
This video presents an almost plug-n-play way to add an Ikea Trådfri remote to Home Assistant by using an iTead Sonoff Zigbee adapter. No programming required!

If you enable firmware upgrades for the Tradfri products in HA and then leave them over night they will upgrade the firmware and then they work great! It does take many, many hours to do the firmware upgrade I noticed in the logs, just an FYI.

Great video and sharing. Did you manage to get the IKEA Tradfri Shortcut button to pair with the Sonoff USB 3.0 Zigbee Dongle through ZHA in the end ? Keen to find that out. Thanks !
Just tried pairing the remote and a smart plug from Ikea to zigbee2mqtt and everything works out just fine.
how many devices were you able to connect to the dongle?
I connected 4, that's all I had.
Title say Zigbee2MQTT, and you dont use it. Crap titel.
Zigbee2MQTT firmware is preloaded in the Sonoff dongle. Without it, it wouldn't work.
@@ElektorTV Are you sure the dongle doesný connect directly to the zigbee network?
