The Other Side of Ghana: JAMESTOWN

- This is Part 2 of my adventure to Jamestown. After Wode Maya recommended that I visit this part of Accra, I called my friend and driver Emos to take me to that part of the city.
In this video, I am joined with @officialbluebeatrice and @ElsyElsa as we explore the oldest part of Accra. This is one of the most important historical sites in Ghana.
A lot of important historical event happened here. Today, it is occupied by a fishing community and this video will show you their current living condition and struggle in Jamestown.
Jamestown originated as a community that emerged around the 17th-century British James Fort, merging with Accra as the city grew. These days, Jamestown is one the poorer neighbourhoods of Accra - full of beautifully dishevelled colonial buildings, clapboard houses and corrugated iron shacks - but it remains vibrant. For a great view of the city and the busy and colourful fishing harbour (haze and pollution permitting), climb to the top of the whitewashed lighthouse.

Are you going to take us to Camaroon? Show us where you are from.
Can you show us the redeveloped Kwame Nkrumah memorial Park and Museum in Accra, Ghana. The library of Pan Africanism.
Bro, be careful the guy you talking to is a scam The school doesn’t belong to him if you want to donate go to the school and donate to them.
May we grow, give, and change the situation for the less fortunate ones of our people..our beautiful children deserve better..
Exactly what I was thinking
GREAT JAMES TOWN INTERVIEW SHALOM FAMILY 😢😢😢😢🎉❤😮😮😮
This is amazing bro my motherland Ghana🇬🇭 God bless everybody who is in this platform. I enjoy this amazing video.
You getting so better in your editing and thanks for this video hunny it’s for informative Ivan ❤
Ivan, this documentary lecture is an eye opening to and for many. Especially, to those of us that are abroad, and have not visited Ghana. Ghana, holds many of the African stories. So, thanks again for this opportunity, explaining the African stories.
Those animals are also eating the plastics. The area must HIGHLY be getting clean for the health of the people. Inside sitting down doing nothing, they can gather themselves and clean. Even the childrens will love to participe.
I am Ghanaian and i will go there when i go back to Ghana.
Wow such history, thanks for taking us along sweetheart 😘
thanks a lot for watching ! I appreciate you
Thank you for the show. We like the boxing segment as well. You should try to interview Azumah Nelson (the professor) , he is the former WBC World Champion in featherweight ( 1984 to 1987 ) and super-featherweight (1988 and 1997) . He is from Ghana and lives in Accra.
I suggest you interview him about the future of professional boxing in Ghana and Africa. I am boxing fan myself and former middleweight amateur boxer.
very informative video❤
That Deity in the middle of the road had been there way before 1600. It was this same James Town that tye American James Town was named after. After the British King James. You should have gone to the Osu Christianbourg Castle to make this history complete. And you should go to Western Region where Wode Maya is from to see the most Hidden Castles and more important untold history. Go to Nzulezu, Fort Saint Antonio in Axim, Lou Moon. Busia Beach. Fort MetalCross and more. Its not only Cape Coast and Elmina Castle there are more out there with serious history. PRINCESS TOWN, DIXCOVE and more all in western region. Ask Wode Maya if he can assist you or just go with your Ghanaians driver. You wont regret it. Nzelezu is a village on the water, they live on stilts, the entire village is on stilts and you go by boat to reach there. Check out Nzulezu on UA-cam. Great experience.

You're enjoying every bit of the African culture 🙏
Yes sir ! I am. Thanks so much for watching bro
I think one thing your guide didn't explain clearly was that the people who were asked to move were essentially squatters on the land and once the government decided to redevelop the port, they were asked to vacate and move from the area around the port to this new location. So it's not a question of their land being taken from them or their homes being demolished. They didnt live in proper homes just makeshift pieces like what they've rebuilt and it wasn't better before. They've essentially just recreated the makeshift settlement they had before. Since the colonial times, the colonial and Ghanaian governments have been trying to decongest Jamestown by resettling some of the people but there's always resistance from the local people who refuse to move. This hampers their own progress because the government cannot develop the land whilst they're on it.
Thanks for clarifying the situation. It’s always difficult to balance construction and the relocation of the least fortunate. Thanks for watching!
Did the government give them some sort of monetary help for them to move, instead of just kicking the out their homes.
YES EYE AM AWARE OF THIS CHINESE BEHAVIOR WERE DA FISFERMEN GO WAY OUT TOO MEET DA CHINESE FISHING BOATS TERRIBLE INHUMANE 😢😢😢😢😢
BIG UP URSELVES NUFF RESPECT RISE UP FISHING AUTHORITY 😢😢😢😢🎉❤
I enjoyed your video. Nice work.
Great Video !!!!
The government should improve the infrastructure of this city.
So much history here. But the monuments (that stay after centuries and centuries) are all from the Enslavers. Meaning that the local point of view of HISTORY risks to fade over time.
They should have modern buildings, and museums, to tell the Story of this place.
The entrance of the tunnel is almost abandoned. In the Western World, just the entrance would be a major touristic place, surrounded by stores and museums, and people would have to pay to enter and visit the tunnel....
So much Potential in Africa.
A 3 million dollar memorial park of Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana was just opened a few weeks ago not far from Jamestown. The development is slow but it's taking place.
Lots of world champions came from here..
Thanks for this video ❤❤❤
Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the super chat. I do not expect it at all. It means a lot!
Be careful with the guy you are talking to. I don’t believe in what he is saying about the school. Those guys are not orphans.
Great video, brother Ivain. Great content. You're displaying some great video editing skills, I love the way you edit music into the video. It looks like a movie 🎬 👍👍👍

Great video my brother 🙏.
This is of great historical importance. I am surprised that with all the public din and clamour of Africanism, especially by some USA politicians, they ignore the desecration of such historical sites. We spend over $150B to defend Ukraine but not a penny to preserve the memory of origin of slaves, who made America what it is today. Just a tiny fraction could have developed that coastline, preserving the artifacts and improving the lives of those dispossessed children. Thanks for your expose`. It should not be necessary to offer even a tangential excuse for your content. You are doing a balanced service to the world.
Thanks so much for the feedback. I agree 100% with what you are saying. It’s tragic to see what’s happening to these sites. I hope it changes one day
It is not their job to see such history they were the perpetuators. They prefer to send 150B because they are war mongers and see war and chaos as economic benefits. They don't care about humanity.
And developed the place for the good 👌
Yes it’s my hood Jamestown Best Champion Boxers are from JT big up your self ❤

I can't watch this video without crying. It's really painful. My heart just breaks.. Dear black people all over the world, why didn't we use our sufferings to ❤❤ each other. Ivain really interesting in Jamestown Africa. I looked it up and the Jim Jones massacre went all of these people followed Jim Jones to Africa and many of them died by Suicide. My cousin's grandmother followed Jim Jones first to San Francisco and then to Africa in this so called religious cult. I wonder if they have a monument somewhere in Jamestown Africa of such a horrible event?😢💔🙏🙏
I think you are talking about Jonestown....that not in Ghana it was in Guyana.
It was in Guyana, South America... where the Jim Jones Cult was
I just checked in, lemmi begin from the countdown
Thanks a lot
Ghana detty sha!!!🫢
Naija detty sha!!!
U u left Mushin,Oshodi, Oworonshoki, Apapa,ie, lagos alone. Then Abuja, the most well plan city has these horrible places like Apo Mechanic Village, Byanzhin, Dawaki, Dei Dei, Durumi, Dutse, Garki,, Gishiri, Gwagwalape, Idu, Jabi, Kado Village, Karmo, Karshi, Karu, Katampe, Ketti Village, Kpaduma, Kabusa, Kpana Village, Kubwa, Lokogoma, Lugbe, Mabushi, Mpape, Nyanya, Piya Kasa, Ungwan ...
Whenu finish cleaning your country then u come talk about Ghana.
I forgot to add Apapa.
The people that even live there are Gas and their ancestral home is in Nigeria. The Zongos which is predominantly muslim area( they speak hausa) which is from the North of Nigeria. They also migrated to Ghana. So u see all the dirtiest places are from the people who came from your country. I rest my case. Next!!!
lagos is more dirty than Accra individually ghanains are more clearner l know so l have there b4
@@blackentrepreneur8564 my bro you forgot to add Makoko, one of the dirtiest places in Nigeria
So u see one community and u say the whole country is dirty. What a fool.
I sun, are you going to visit Cape Coast?
Great vid.. a lot of ppl don’t see history is about to be wiped out in a couple of years.. Chinese taking control of the port where slaves where be shipped from and building their own history is crazy. I’m 100% sure the monument of the slave masters will still be standing
The story is incomplete. The tour guy doesn't know much about the area. He should have gone to the chief of the area at least he would have given him someone knowledgeable as a tour guide.
I don't think he owns the school.
He should have asked for Azuma Nelson to get the story straightened.
Great video content! The content & quality of all your videos are 💯!!! You are a very generous person and try to help out as much as you can… I wish you continued success , happiness & good vibes 👍🏾👏🏾🙏🏾🥰
I am a ghananian and I think their so called chief in the area can do better for their own people. The colonial masters have left for soo long and this chiefs cannot take the fight for themselves to say that we can do it ourselves
The people also need to take responsibility for themselves. The chief shouldnt have to come around to tell them to clean up their trash everyday as if they're kids. Both the chiefs (not chief) and the people are failing themselves truly. It's sad
Ghana is on track to be a first world country in 20 years.
I know that you want to help; however, it would probably be better to send donations directly to the school. Getting the history of the place is good.
This guide (Humphrey) was proven to be a scammer! Please, contact the school directly. Some facts that guide was spitting was extreme exaggeration just for sympathy donations.
@@Apache75 There was another Vlogger on UA-cam: The Traveling Miss, was approached by this same guy with the same story. Luckily one of the community leaders (a rasta man) and others rushed him and chased him (Humphrey) and his brother at the time away. The rasta man explained that Humphrey and others are just street scammers. He brought the UA-camr directly to the school and the school administrators told her to donate directly to the school. Humphrey and others are just street hustlers, spinning tales to get money directly to them.
As he said these areas can be clean, renewal and use as a museum to improve the economic of Ghana and keep the history of slaves alive for the generations to generations. Why giving it to Chinese to destroy it. Please larders thank about it...
If that bull horns get you,you are gone like wow
True story 😂
When I was growing up here in the state of Georgia we had pigs, cows, mules, and chickens. Rather my grandmother had chickens in a chicken coop and a good many who had escaped the coop and ran around in her yard. They would roost overnight in the barn. Once a year my grandmother would have my brothers and I run the roosters off that barn roost at night, because they can't see so good then, to catch them and put them in a pen. She would then feed them grain to clean them out and then later on my father would chop their heads off and they would be jumping around spilling blood all over. After they died we would help my grandmother pluck and clean them and she would boil them because them old roosters were too tough to fry. My aunt who lived next door to us used to kill chickens she would have for dinner by stepping on their head and pulled the body from the head. I could not imagine any of my nieces killing and cleaning a chicken. They never saw it done. Many of these young people now are going vegetarian or vegan. They would not eat the animals we used to eat like squirrels, rabbits, possums turtles and raccoons.
That place was not sold to the chinese. A chinese company was given a contract by the ghana government to build a new fishing harbor over there for ghana. Its not for the chinese to ve a port over there. Idk where he is getting that from. I had to correct that statement that he made.
4:00🕺🏽
Did this guide really refer to King James as an "Elder". He asks "Why do you think this place is called Jamestown?" And then continues to explain "Because one of the elders was called King James". At first I thought the African woman with the camera was foolish for asking him if King James was an African, but then I realized after listening again that this guide referred to this murderous European King James as an "elder". Is this is what being taught in Ghanian classrooms.? He's nothing but a tour guide hustler.
Listen at the 03:33 mark
Yeah it’s shocking and also the memorial of the slave owner is the only memorial there. It’s quite sad. Thanks so much for the feedback
It's sad to see places such as James Town, Nima, Agboboloshie etc. Exist in Ghana 😢. For the guy with the orphanage school, I would suggest to adopt a programme in which people can remotely adopt a child, by being their sponsor to see them through education. Set up a trust for each child and let the adoptive parent be involved in seeing their progression and even opportunity to visit them etc. I think that would be more successful and build trust. I would love to adopt a child and see them through school if only I could see the money being spent well and the child's progression. Let's build a trust for them to make sure their future is secured. I pray that every child there can escape that area. Why can't we educate people about hygiene. Removing them from their to another place is not going to solve the problem, they are going to live the same way they have been doing. They need environmental education and how to live in this era. Sad and upsetting video.
The harbor is not been sold to the Chinese. It is only been built by Chinese contractors.
The people they took as slaves were from Ashanti kindom. They brought them to Accra to transport them by boats to the Americans because they is no sea in Ashanti region .
the people of accra are the Ga. it not a religion i have no clue what the guy meant by saying that. the Ga ethnic group populate the greater accra region which host the capital city of Ghana - Accra
That school doesn't belong to him and doesn't run it! There is a lot of misiinformtion!
He never said he owns the school .. not once did he say that Frank . Thanks for watching! Please underline what he said that is untrue so my viewers can judge for themselves
@@IvainTures Thanks for setting the matter straight

That guy told the old to tell you that he had two children after he said he had none scam ‼️
Can they upgrade this place and make it nicer abit for tourism purposes. It’s the same 19 centuries look.
Ghana 419 man
They need a incinerator a landfill and a waste to energy plant to help with the trash problem, that's so sad seeing what could be a beautiful area being cluttered with pollution.
Most of the things that the tour guide was saying was on point but the part about the port, I don't agree and also GA is a language and an ethnic group, it's not a religion.
I don't agree with lots of things he is telling you
I don't think the tour guy was telling you the whole story. He said that the British came to Jamestown in 1600s; and the Ghanians have been living in Jamestown since 1960s. Where were they living prior to moving to Jamestown? The area in which they were living, to be precise. I don't think they were the right owners of the land - they might have encroached into the property of the government. Some Ghanians are found of doing that. They could have taken the government to court. The government cannot take your land without compensation.
He said that he needs money to help the children so that they can go to school. Ghana has a free education system. To be precise, Ghana, elementary and middle school has been free and compulsory since 1995, with a 90 percent enrollment rate. But high school, though government-run, required tuition.
He also said the port has been sold to the Chinese so they now own it. Next time find out if that's true. No government will sell its historical port to a foreign country.
I had wanted to help but l hate people who lie in order to gain someone's favor. It would be better to say he is helping children who are orphans.
You're right to say we should tell the other side of the story. That story has been told over and over again. You said you live in America. You should have told the world about the other side of America before going to Africa. In America, some people look through trash for food. Homelessness is a huge problem in America but how many times have you seen CNN and media companies broadcasting it. Do you think they don't know?
I love people like Wode Maya and others, they are changing the narrative. You met him because he is well known of what he is doing. Please my brother let's help change the narrative. No body will do it for us. In the years past, Africans in the diaspora didn't want to go to Africa but it's now changing. In recent years, a lot of them are going back as a result of positive narrative. The narrative has been changing. Bravo to Wode Maya and co. Let's come together to change it for good
Thanks for the feedback. Let me just say that I have several videos on the other side of the US. Thanks for watching
Okay, I'm going to watch the videos. Thanks for the immediate response.

Always my man.
Your content is getting much better and I love it.
Keep it up.
You're still in Ghana, I thought you'd already left.
That Jamestown was named after that British Christian Enslaving King James 2nd. The homosexual King James Stuart the 1st, is the alcoholic king who believed in incest, he's the King that had some Bishops put the Bible together, King James Version !!!

People always alert to hear negative about Ghana funny
GA is tribe and language but is not religion
Ivain, like the young woman who asked if King James was African, some viewers might not realize that the people they are talking about were not born slaves but were ENslaved!!! Big difference!
The guy is a lier the Chinese gave out the loan for a new port to but built ,they dont own the area
The language and the tribe is Ga. But the religion is traditional religion not Ga.

Country like Ghana with all mineral resources people can’t afford to pay $20 for school fee ooooAfrica
You can’t pay me enough to go down in that hole
No one should send money to this man in the video he is a scammer go to the school and give them whatvever you want yourself. I dont see the crime in the government wanted to the develop the beach front these ppl dont own the land they make the place so dirty
What a shame stacked in there for three months is insane. Those slave owners will be punished
I don't understand James town community don't want government to develop the area,, always they resisted,
@@Apache75 my problem is when a tour guide said Ghana president sold some of the area of James town to Chinese, that is not true the government of Ghana want to develop the sea port for the fisherman around that area, unfortunately the tour guide misinformed people that government have solid it. Seems like people living there don't want development
@@Apache75 I am not living in James town,I based on what I heard from the tour guide, government have sold the sea port for Chinese
And he is not happy for that,
What I know is government wants to develop the sea port for fishermen in that area
The best educative video thus far.. the lady with white top wig is so distracting
Why in the hell did thay sell that area to the Chinese. Need to kick them out
I agree
Those Europeans stripped that area of all their strongest and brightest Africans and then left them to fend for themselves as they separated families! Savages/Beast...
Government school in Ghana is free up till high school . The guy seemed eager to take money from you when he said the kids can't go to government school because it's not free. He needs to explain what he meant by that. And the Chinese have a contract to develop that fishing port in Jamestown. It was a very messy place before the Chinese started their project.
