    Thanks for sharing this. I saw Page & Plant on their 1995 Unledded tour. It was the only time I ever saw either one of them play this song & I have seen both live several times over the years. I wasn't old enough to see Led Zeppelin because they split up when I was 15 & didn't make it to the US on that tour. Seeing Page & Plant in 1995 was amazing & as close to seeing Zeppelin as I'll ever get. I saw them on their 2nd night at Boston Garden & they were great. I am a guitar player so I watched Jimmy close that evening. When they played this it was the only time/song I have ever seen him used a Strat on. I don't remember him using the bar that much on this song & Jimmy almost never used a bar. He does love his B-Bender on his Telecasters though. I have an excellent recording of the show I saw. I will listen to it when I have time within the next day or two. I am now curious how much of the bar I will hear on it. Thanks again, I will be breaking my Strat out real soon to play around with this song.

    Great lesson (as always). Jeff Beck is a virtuoso with tremolo bar and has taken its use to levels before unknown and not quite duplicated. One has to only view “Live at Ronnie Scott’s” to see what Beck can do with the tremolo bar that is second to none, far from trite, and awesomely beautiful. Thanks again, for all you share here, JJ.

    I work on 150+ guitars a year almost 75% or higher of the Fender/Squier Strats I see the wammy bar has been lost for years; of the 25ish % that have one less than half use it so I end up blocking a lot of trems.
    I am surprised David Gilmour didn't come to mind JJ as John F said tasteful and he seems to use it a fair bit on single notes or occasional double stops as an added accent.
    For some of the guys who do use trems you can actually "tune it" set it up to bend a half or full step or even a third.

    Cool video and everything, but didn't Jimmy use the tele, b-string bender on this song?
    I seem to recall an early 80's interview, where he said this was the first song he wrote after getting that guitar.

    • @jamesjames9275

      Jimmy was using the B-bender on the 77 tour, well before he wrote this. Also, the bends are mostly on the G string, not the B string. Beyond all that, there is video and photos of Jimmy using the Strat on this song, even the official Knebworth clip.

    • @jamesjames9275
      @jamesjames9275 5 років тому +11

      I'm not really objective on Jimmy, since I adore the man. But when he became a heroin user, his playing changed dramatically. If you listen to Heartbreaker in 1970 then listen to one of the 1980 versions, you can't believe it's the same guy. Watch the Seattle 1977 show, if you can stomach it. It's just dire, he was barely functioning. But a month before Seattle, he was in top form for the LA shows. I think his playing was terrific at Copenhagen in July 1979, then two weeks later at Knebworth, he was really off. Through 1973, his playing was so consistent, and ever since then, it's been a coin toss as to which Jimmy you'll get on any given night. Regardless, I love his playing.
