I agree with you. I really liked the older styles where people would glide huge distances in only a couple steps. Of course that takes tonnes of practice and not many people could do it.
Denji fucking smoked it. Socks on polished floorboards is kind of cheating, but still, sick shuffle. This shuffling in random places is a bit odd for me, I'm used to just talcing up dancefloors and shuffling the fuck out it. Best days of my life were hitting up 3D, Bass Station, and Kandy just getting my dance on with awesome people.
