I think its actually not the type of rockets your thinking of, instead its actually a recoil less cannon. when the barrel is forward the chamber is open to allow a round to enter the chamber. The barrel goes backwards closing the chamber and fires a round, a delay allows the projectile to exit the barrel before the barrel moves forward again. This actually makes perfect sense for such a platform where recoil would be a serious hindrance.
If I owned arperture, I'd just strap a bazooka and a kinect sensor to an xbox stuck to a pole with a motor to spin around, and then weld it all to a piston platform under the floor so it can move up and down. If arperture ever needs a cheaper approach to their rocket turret, they know who to call.

And the TF2 Sentry doesn't lead projectiles, so fast moving classes can easily dodge.
Having seen a bunch of strange and obscure gun designs, i can say the rocket gun is definitely plausible. at least the 'gun' part. The barrel coming back could be the breech closing and pushing the rocket back into place and opening the back to vent backblast once firing blasting it out and carrying the barrel back out with recoil referred to as a 'Blow Forward' design, or it could siphon some of the backblast from launching to reset the barrel after it leaves like a Gas Delayed Blowback.

Okay, 5-6 degrees of rotational freedom all in one direction (x, z is vertical) sure looks fancy but dear god is that post-Apple levels of insane design.
I’d say it’s definitely possible. This is all based off a model from an old game. The rounds could be RPG rounds, but if they’re that small they’d be only effective against personnel in close quarters.
Are Atlas and P-Body possible? I’m just saying this so I can get a side view of their models. I’m trying to create them in Pivot Animator but I can’t find any side views lol
The only thing I see that would make the turret impossible would if the barrel is closed at the back. Aside from that, the rockets, being self-propelled, won't cause any recoil on the gun, making the firing systems and the stress on the joints a mute point, though still in slight presence on the joint due to the stress put into he single point. Next to that, the biggest glaring issue (if the back of the barrel isn't clear), is the loading mechanism. It's possible, though certainly prone to jamming to possible flexing of the metal basket. If I were designing it, I would have it belt fed, but at the same time I can understand the design choice that would lead to its current design. The exhaust black blast of a self propelled rocket is deviating to anyone caught within it. With the belt fed system the loading port for the rockets woul have to always be wide open, and with a wide open gap pointing right at the sentry body, the back blast of the rocket can easily do significant damage over time to the main sentry body with each shot. With this system, that threat is wholly eliminated, the loading chamber able to open and close with each shot and prevent devestating back last the the machine. Overall, I say it's possible, although impractical.
i want to think it has a blow forward design. the barrel going back closes the breech and opens a port in back to vent the backblast and it has just enough contact to allow friction to reset the barrel without messing with the rocket too much.
I'd say some country in a bit of the future maybe a decade could make a strong enough engine under maybe then have the power go to the front of the function to move it
Of course it's over engineered. This IS Aperture Science we're talking about here, the people who make their test chambers in such an expensive, over complicated manner that it's actually more feasible and cost effective to create the blueprints for the test chambers, slip them to the Aperture Sciences of the multiverse, then steal them after they've been built. Also, my question is...would the thermal discouraging beams be possible? Would it be possible to, as explained in I believe Portal 2, concentrate sunlight into a laser beam?
Everyone: sooo to make the turret possibile you Just Need to fix the joint and ammo placement and the actual Rocket Launcher. Me: replace the joints with the panels ones and the rest you said.
I'm making a more realistic model on tinkercad. Even gave it insides and an entirely different arm/base. Bit of clipping due to lazy tinkercad, some things that could be solved a better way, overall the morlst unrealistic part would likely be the launcher. I'll put a link here when it's done. It's also kinda low-poly

Yeah it is possible. Make the articulators out of strong materials, make the core out of a lightweight metal/strong plastic. The articulation isn't impossible either; it would have a dedicated CPU for adjusting angles and movement, I don't think it would be hard for a team to create a movement algorithm so all the joints move in sync. Would it be expensive and impractical? Yeah. Would it work? Also yeah.
TL:DW = No, they're highly ineffective and quite difficult to engineer in numbers, which you may possibly need to defend a top secret science facility (also fictional) like aperture science.
The actual idea is possible, just get a mechanical arm and an auto-loading rocket launcher and stick it inside of a ball with a relatively simple targeting system. Actually, this concept is so simple and low cost you could probably mass-produce something like this. As for the design in-game though, there is no way that thing is going to survive a moment on those motors. And even if it does, its just going to end up destroying itself with its own rocket. The laser sight is also completely unnecessary given todays targeting technology.
