I hope Mark never gets too big. I’d hate to see him in a mega church. That’s always their downfall and he’s a real gem. What a blessing he has been in my journey with God. He always breaks down the bible in an understandable way. Great message as always. Thank you 🙏 ❤️

I’m a recovering alcoholic and was addicted to amphetamines. I honestly didn’t ever think I was going to live without those things or find freedom from them. I am clean now. I know the struggle of alcohol and all I know is that the first step I did was drench myself in sermons, and reading the Word and the phrases keep going and don’t give up with the learning about God and the Bible. I can’t impart any earthly knowledge except never stop searching for the knowledge of God and his Word like a treasure. It didn’t happen overnight for me. God knows you better than I do so only He knows how your breakthrough manifest but do not give up searching and leaning into the gospel and sermons. Side note, if you need to keep your mind occupied in between the Word or sermons I recommend the show The Chosen. You will be in my prayers.

Why does he not start at verse 1? Verses 1-5 shows who Paul's message is for and about
"3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;"
He clearly states only the Israelites were given the promises of God.

So if it pertains to Israelites (at that time Jews) only, why is it in the Bible? Jews didn’t believe in Christ, as Paul even states.
The fact is, that once Jesus Christ resurrected all who believe are neither Jew nor Greek (gentile) anymore but are one new man in Christ.
Paul’s explaining that just because one is Israelite by birth does not make them an Israelite (God’s chosen) in heart.
Pastor Mark didn’t read the beginning, I think, because for too long Christians have hung on the notion that Romans 9 is not for Christians and is for Jews, which couldn’t be farther from the truth.
If anything, the message to Jews relayed in Ch 9, is one to push them to jealousy so that they WOULD accept Jesus Christ as Messiah

@@thelastjohnwayne8726 Why is it in the Bible? Because the bible was written by the Israelites for Israelites.
The bible is not a religious text, but in fact a history book. It's the history of God's chosen people (Deuteronomy 7:6). It tells how they became His people, the laws they have to follow and the consequences if they broke those laws (deu 28). It tells how they disobeyed and the different captivities they served for disobeying. and how they will be redeemed. It's about the Israelites through and through.
Neither jew nor greek pertains to greek speaking Israelites. northern and southern kingdom split, and the northern kingdom became gentiles and hellenized, meaning greek speaking Jews.

@@SeeWhyAnn Because I don't think he needed to. See 9:38."This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring. ". The Israelites had time and time again, to this point, rejected Jesus as the Messiah.
Paul's point here is actually speaking to the Jews that believed that because they were physical children of Israel; that guaranteed salvation. Paul is actually pointing out , later on as Mark talks about, that its about election (Romans 9:11-13 ESV "though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad-in order that God's purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of him who calls- [12] she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” [13] As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”). It speaks to God's sovereignty and election, not by birthright.
The Bible isn't for just the Israelites (they have the Torah). Recall that Romans was written for the sophisticates in Rome at that time (who were not Jews). In verse 16, he also clearly states that the message is for the Gentiles too (the Jews first: they had the first shot as God's people).
See Romans 1:16 ESV "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."
The Bible isn't just a history book; it's His Story, not ours and is the inspired Word of God. Hope this clears it up.

@@m3drivr Perhaps I may be able to clear some things up for you as well.
As stated, the Bible is a history book. It’s the history book of the Israelites, which includes Christ ( who is also an Israelite from the tribe of Judah Hebrews 7:14) It is not a universal religion, but again a history book that centralizes a specific group of people.
Many christians are not familiar with the Apocrypha. Failure to recognize the Apocrypha greatly distorts the understanding of the Bible because it bridges the gab of the “old” testament and the “new”. Apocrypha means “hidden books” and in these hidden books is where we learn about the Greek captivity that the northern kingdom Israelites faced. This is a *major* contextual piece that is necessary when understanding what Paul means when he says “neither Jew nor Greek”.
During the Greek captivity, the Israelites were not allowed to keep their customs, like the sabbath day or feast days or even call themselves a Jew. They were not allowed to recognize themselves as God’s people or keep any of His customs while in the Greek captivity.
*II Maccabees 6:5 “Neither was it lawful for a man to keep sabbath days or ancient fasts, or to profess himself at all to be a Jew.”*
*6:9 “And whoso would not conform themselves to the manners of the Gentiles should be put to death. Then might a man have seen the present misery.”*
Through this hellenization process, hellenized meaning “Greek speaking jews”, The northern kingdom became gentiles. The Greek captivity is a vital piece of information in Israelite history.
So when Paul says neither jew nor greek, he’s saying neither southern kingdom israelites (jew) or northern kingdom israelites (who were then calling themselves greek).
*Romans 9:26 “And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.”*
^^This scripture refers to northern kingdom Israelites being called Gods children again because they were not only cut off temporarily, but they were not allowed to call themselves Jews under the greek captivity, as previously stated.
This is precisely why Paul’s writing are hard to be understood:
*2 Peter 3:16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things. Therein are some things hard to understand, which those who are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other Scriptures, unto their own destruction.”*
If you are unlearned or do not have the proper understanding/context, trying to decipher Pauls letter will lead to your own destruction.
