For the wall over the couch by the stairs, floating shelves, decent sized, maybe 2, set side by side but at different levels, with some plants, books, photos not cluttery but stuff like that.

I would get rid of the grey couch move the recliner in the corner opposite of the stairs and add a small side table and hang a picture above. Move the small plant stand to the place the recliner sits currently.
I agree. That couch looks so awkward there. And since the other can be made so large, extra seating doesn't seem to be that necessary?

Could you shorten the gray couch? Seems to be in the way of the stairs and it would open part of the window up. And if you can get rid of the recliner. It just seems like it would open up your living room so much. Right now seems like it’s too much furniture for the space.
