My family was very close to the Raceks and especially Nadine. I remember sitting in that kitchen and watching her make kolaches. When she passed there was a hole left in the entire Czech community. We miss her dearly. Seeing this video brings a smile to my face. Thank you for sharing her story.
What an inspiration 😊.....very cool that she's never advertised. That goes to show-when you have something special, word of mouth is the BEST advertisement! Well done, Mrs. Racek. But someday...you gotta give up that recipe or it'll be lost forever! And that would be such a tragedy!!!!!
Just saw this video now ( 2023). Such a sweet lady and her Kolache looks so wonderful! But I hope she will or did leave the recipe with her grandchildren. It truly would be sad if she didn't.
I loved her. She made the best kola ches. She was my great aunt
i am so sorry to hear that :( im binge watching her vids. I'm from Perú and i would love to make her kolaches at home! do you mind sharing the recipe?
Is she still alive
Wow I have to go to Wilber Nebraska but hers look so awesome.did she make jiternice?
Did she give a recipe?
What a gal! 😊
I hope she did pass on her recipe so that her legacy will never die.. I've just recently discovered kolaches and this has inspired me to try and make it myself..
Awwww. Just discovered her, what an American legend. She passed in 2014. So sad. Such a beautiful person
I am sure she passed down her recipe. She seem generous and was kidding about not sharing the recipe
This is 2024 was wondering about if she had. I just learned about Kolache’s here they are just called cheese danish. I heard about Kolache’s as I was investigating Kringle’s. Now I have aced both! Too bad she did not reveal her recipe, but from what I have seen, I pretty much have it covered as well. I had to make up my recipe as too! They are sooo good. I have gone on to make Klobasneks now! I truly hope she passed down her recipe it would be a shame if she did not! Rest in Peace!
Usually I say can Been there, done that but never been to Prague, Nebraska or Prague MN. However I been to Prague Arkansas, Prague Czech Republic, Prague Oklahoma, Praha Texas and probably had my share of kolaches in my lifetime as a Texas Czech !
Nadine's kolaches are very good! She was a neighbor of my parents.
I am from Nebraska and my grandma make kolaches. Just watching this is making me hungry!!!!!
saddle 2 hear she passed. I love her style Ole school with LOVE.
My grandma make these and they are the best thing I’ve ever tasted. I hope everyone could have a chance to try one.
Very cool. Nice to get a great taste from Europe
there's a little town in northeast iowa called spillville that was settled by czech immigrants. as a kid my mom used to take us there and i loved to eat kolaches!
She’s amazing! 🥰🤗
She makes the traditional with yeast. We say kolach key.
There is wonderful treatment if you go to a physical therapist who has ( I don’t know the name) but you put you hand in warm vibrating sand and they message the hand. That is soooooooo soothing.
Someone should gift her with a kitchen aid mixer. Strong enough to knead the dough.
So sad when people will not pass recipes down, when they pass on, that’s the end of a era.
Sometimes there is a reason for not sharing the recipes. I don't share my mother's bread recipe (which she created in 1945) or the recipe for my great grandmother's yeast rolls (which she made back in the 1890's) for the simple reason that no one in my family cares except me (and I still make those recipes all the time). If anyone showed the least interest, I'd spend every amount of effort on teaching them so that the recipes and the family stories would live on (I know interesting stuff about our ancestors all the way back to to mid-1700's). As it is, all that information and the recipes will probably die with me. I would prefer that it did not but you can't push people to take what they don't want and you can't make them visit with a relative they would rather ignore. If you've got an old auntie that no one cares about, take the time to get to know her; it would do you both the world of good.
@@zzydny make a youtube channel and teach us all ❤
@@Heather-dq7lf I agree!!!!
@@zzydny
I'd happily learn your recipes!
@@zzydny You can tell me the recipe =]
Watching in 2023
Is she from czech republic? Nadine Racek seems like czech name, its like Naďa Racková
She and her husband were born in Nebraska. However, the town she was born in is called Prague and was settled in the 1880s by immigrants from Bohemia.
Aaah, now i know, thanks :)
Do you have a recipe for making homemade almond filling for a kolache
Those look wonderful. Three ingredients and your good to go!
Respect from Texas, home of the more meaty version of kolaches.
What a SHAME!!!!! That she never shared the recipe for the KOLACHE!!!!!! Recipes should be shared and Not DIE!! Along with the person. I LOVE to cook and Bake!! I am Proud!!!! of all my 🇮🇹 Family Recipes !! So when someone asks me for one of them!! I am very happy to give it to them. My 💕mother and 💕Grandmother LIVE ON through those past down ❤️RECIPES !! I feel sad for her Children and Grandchildren that their Grandmother was a Silly Selfish Old Woman!!! not leaving her supposedly Amazing Recipe!! Behind To her Loved ones !!!!
I am sorry to hear of her passing, but I agree, selfish not even sharing her recipe with her grandchildren, that would carry on her legacy? Maybe she feared someone, even a relative taking her business away? Hope she shared it in the end..
I have never seen a kolache that looks exactly like what she has devised here. But if sure looks yummy!
Krása
I can't believe tiger woods gets a medal of freedom but she doesn't.
That's amazing
A recipe for the dough would have been nice. I just learned about these…..here they are known as just cheese danish…love the background of Czech Kolache
Goodness... someone please get this Dear Lady a Dough mixer.
Oh man, I hope she changed her mind and left the recipe to someone. Or left copy in her will. It’s sad to think that her homemade recipe could be gone to the world now.
Nice lady , but I hope she passed on her recipe. I know people who went to their grave with a recipe, and their family never forgot that slap in the face !
So, she wouldn't even share her recipe with her own family? One trusted person? I understand wanting to her to keep her recipe to herself but the problem is since this video waa made many years ago...this lady has probably passed away and if she refused to share her recipe with anyone, her kolaches die with her...and honestly thats a shame since these kolaches seemed great and were part of her legacy.
Hopefully she left her recipe with someone she trusted
Will not give the recipe even to her grandchildren? I would say that’s pretty selfish!
I’m glad I never knew her.
Not sharing (the recipe), lol, like you can't get a good one on the internet. Kinda selfish on her part. Guess the recipe will go with her. Not much of a legacy left behind to her kids.
you are not the queen sit down gma
Come on! This woman can't even pronounce the word right! And real kolaches are folded over. And even the round ones have more filling. Where did you find this fake?
