How to Properly Fit a Life Vest-Keep Your Family Safe on the Water

- Water safety is everything to me, and there's nothing more important to me than keeping my family as safe as possible when we're out on the boat. Did you know there's a RIGHT way to fit a life vest?

First of all, let me say this: an ill-fitted life vest is still better than no life vest at all! It will do more for you than not wearing one.
Wakeboarding? Life vest.
Wake surfing? Life vest.
Tubing? Life vest.
No matter how strong of a swimmer you are, one bad fall or accident can change everything in an instant. Wearing a life vest is EASY!
That being said, I do still highly recommend purchasing a life vest that fits you well and wearing it anytime that you're out on the water.
Here's how you properly fit yourself for a life vest:
1 - Measure the circumference of the widest part of your torso.
2 - Select a life vest that is CGA approved (skip the comp vests, guys! They are NOT CGA approved!)
3 - Select the size that fits your measurement.
4 - Put it on, zip and buckle it up, and have a friend help you check to make sure the fit is right.
5 - Get out and ENJOY YOUR RIDE in your properly fitted life vest!

Thanks for doing this, we recently had a really scary experience with a rider being knocked unconscious, we were really grateful he was wearing a coast guard approved vest, we were able to get the boat back around to him get him out of the water and he’s all good now. Coulda been a different story without a good fitting coast guard approved vest.
Thanks for doing this. I'm a comp vest guy, not for doing cooler tricks but for comfort aspect. But being safer is the best route. I got hit in the temple with my surf board this summer and almost got knocked out. It got me thinking and I will be wearing a Coast gaurd approved life vest from now on.

Sold 2 hyperlite jr Murray lites quick out at blue zone!! Also get hyperlite to relook at kids size bindings they skip size 3 a pretty important size people are always coming in right around that size 👍

Hey Shaun. You're one of the riders that doesn't use a comp vest. Im leaning towards ditching the comp vest myself. why work harder to stay afloat? Are there any real advantages to using a comp vest?

When you were on the tour did you wear a compvest or always a cost guard approved vests
I rode some thinned out vests for a bit but made sure they would float me. Can even see some old pics/footage of me riding w out a vest at times, not a good idea. Now that I've been on the water for years, have had some bad crashes, have kids, have thought about it, only CGA.

"Why am I measuring my chest" ... to make me jealous as a dude of the same age, I suspect... Great video and good reminders, seems us old guys air on the side of safety once the little ones are running around. Great info and love watching you make it look easy out there on the water.
