- Norway, Ireland and Spain said on Wednesday they will recognize a Palestinian state on May 28, in a historic but largely symbolic move that deepens Israel’s isolation more than seven months into its grinding conflict against Hamas in Gaza.
"we must keep alive the only thing that can provide a safe home for both Israelis and Palestinians: two states that can live in peace with each other, Israel and Palestine," the Norwegian prime minister said.
The announcements came as the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is seeking arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his defence minister and the International Court of Justice is considering allegations of genocide that Israel has strenuously denied.

I get the sentiment and the political posturing that is behind this, but pragmatically this is ridiculous. How can you recognize them as a state when they are still technically still ruled by Hamas, why not pledge to recognize them as a state once they form a more legitimate government that can actually be a part of the international community. Look for a path to statehood, help them to achieve it, help the civilians, do what you can for the people, but as far as the leadership goes, if you do nothing and expect Hamas to go away on it's own, you'll get another Afghanistan.
Palestine was fine before 1948, when Israel became a State. How is it that Israel can become a state in a land where others lived and those people don't get a State? You have no understanding of this situation - just "Hamas, Hamas, Hamas!".

Even if you concede your argument that pre 1948 Palestine was "fine", it's been nearly a century since then, and in that time, it was aggression against Israel that started all of the wars that eventually saw Palestine shrink to what they have today. Generations of mistakes and poor choices led us here, but just wishing for the Palestinians to be a functioning state does not make it so, and so yes, Hamas Hamas Hamas, because that is the problem and that is what is ultimately holding the people back. I can respect their decision. I still think Israel should just flatten Gaza and ignore the howls and the objections. Nations wipe out other nations all the time. The US wiped out a great many indigenous nations. Then there is Ireland and Northern Ireland and Spain an those that don't wish to be Spanish. Norway is a rare case of I have no dirt on them.
