I have suspicions that higher resolutions it may actually come off a bit worse at higher resolutions with how hard they have gone capping these bus widths this generation.. I've been saying it for a while since the rtx2000 series saying the gpus are gonna get more powerful over the generations but they gonna have lower vrams and bus widths to force people to buy the higher end shit to get an enjoyable 4k experience. Its like nvidia are deliberately trying to keep 4k gaming as a premium 1% still.. its like they are punishing gamers for buying their graphics cards to do some actual gaming

It's incredible; it seems that none of this new gen cards has a good value. Even the low end ones!!
4090 is imo
I've been saying this since the 4090. It affects the entire stack. Not just the highest reaches. No consumer GPU should be over $1K. With inflation the 1080ti would be around $950 today, Which is what the 4090 should be priced at.
@@117johnpar well, the 4090 isn´t really for gaming, it is meant for productivity even though Nvidia says that is for gaming. The reality is the average consumer goes for the 60/60Ti/70/70Ti class cards and if those cards costs the exact same as the previous high end generation well... maybe the future of pc gaming will just move to the Cloud and everyone will pay a subscription to play games.
@@marcobahamonde8142 Except you cant have it both ways. You cant go based off of Nvidias marketing the classes sometimes and then not for others. If we assume the 90 class is now a Titan, that its pricing shouldnt be considered for the stack. That means the $1300-$1500 80 class is even worse value.

4060ti is even worse - 190mm die (half the size of the 3060ti and smaller than the 3050) on almost empty PCB with miserable bus and bandwidth for $500 - this is just hilarious.
This is the xx50ti card in the xx60ti box for the price of the xx70 GPU. The same goes with the 4070ti (4060ti in reality) and with the 4080 (4070 in the reality).
4090 is 70% faster than the previous gen and this is the real gen. to gen. uplift. Fake 4080 is 50% faster, fake 4070ti is 40% faster and fake 4060ti is 20% faster.

@@johnc8327 I'm a PC gamer since the '90s and I can see that more and more people are buying consoles because the PC market (especially GPU one) went out of the rails and GPU sales are at 20 years low. It's not about what I didn't get but a quick reality check is full shelves of unsold GPUs.
If gpu's keep staying on the shelves, I can see this gen being the shortest lived and they will do a quick refresh like they have done in past generations.

the problem is nvidia not caring about gaming division anymore, this is not where the money is at, the j3w World order wants smart surveillance / deeplearning ai surveillance in everything, homes, cars, everyday furnitures / appliances, nvidia has little care for gpu's whose market is now a tiny droplet fraction of what they get contracts for.
Cant wait for AMD to stop refreshing their GPUs. After all they are well known for refreshing the same GPU for 3+ generations

I was done with this gen the moment the 7900xt/x came out and it became abundantly clear that 6800xt/3080 level performance would cost 6800xt/3080 money. So i bought a used 6800xt instead.

All the cards should be about 65% fast then last gen, they aren't because the product names below the 4090 are a lie and no real 4080 was released which should of had 12000-14000 cuda cores.
nvdia trying hard to underspecced 40 series by 1 tier and overprice them by 1 tier, so that they are in line with the 30 -series.

This. The standout on that specs chart is the massive difference between the 4090 and the 4080. The 4080 should have been called the 4070. Plenty of room to still shoehorn a 4070Ti and a "proper" 4080 in there.
Nvidia thought: Hmm lets do all of our generational improvement through dlss 3 , cheap out on the dies and make the price ridiculous..... Nvidia knew quite early that the performance of ada was good, but they didnt wanted to give to much performance along to us, as it would hamper the next gen sales. Iam glad that i'd rather quit gaming then ever buying a Nvidia product again.

From what I've seen of the 4060ti the generational uplift is going to be terrible at that level - to the extent my 2080ti might well trade blows with it , and probably win at 4k due to the 128-bit memory bus!
Not sure I understand the point of comparing a flagship tier GPU to a budget tier. The new $1200 GPU is 4080 which is not far off from being twice as fast as 2080ti which had $1200 MSRP.
@@johnc8327 Looked that way I suppose things aren't too bad - 4 years later , twice the fps at same money - but remember Turing was on the whole quite weak (and so was Ampere) , Lovelace should be similar to Pascal in terms of uplifts but ngreedia want to keep some of that back.

@@johnc8327 The 3060 Ti was a bit faster than the 2080 Super for $400 and it looks like the 4060 Ti might only be as good as the 3070 for probably the same price of a 3070 because of Nvidia increasing the prices for each tier. You don't see how disappointing that is?

I did the same but I got a new 6800 for $450 game bundle and I love it I'll keep this for a good 4or5 years like I did with my 580 I had before my new 6800
The only refresh worth waiting for is the 7900xtx, supposedly there were some things they skimped on that lost them the edge to get to that 50% uplift they were bragging about in earlier slides, its either with vcache, faster ram they might get an extra worthwile percentages. if they can manage to squeeze out an extra 20% in the next year with RDNA3+ as a 7950xtx while keeping same price would be awesome in 6 months
Nvidia is pretty much the only one when it comes to discrete gpu with almost 90% market share. People will hold on to their gpu but that is nothing new really. Those that keep upgrading every generation is already a minority to begin with. Nvidia having almost 90% market share means at some point people will still going to buy from them. Maybe not this generation or next. But after that people will still going to buy nvidia GPU when they need it.
As long as buyers are willing to pay these obscene prices for a graphics card, the mfg's will continue to push the envelope of what some are willing to pay. Once sales drop to a certain level, they will drop prices. We have already witnessed this strategy since the middle of 2022. I waited almost 6 years to upgrade from my RX580 to an RX 6800. A card that should have been $450 to $500usd at launch. Only now can you find them at these prices.
But evidently, people aren't buying. They've said it themselves, everyone knows the 4080 and 4070Ti and 7900XT cards are barely selling at all, and the 4090 cards that could sell, are being held back to ensure people buy the lower end cards first. Market is directly proving that there is demand, but pricing is out of whack for the lack of performance uplift that is within comparable price ranges.

@@transistorjump919 I know there's a large gap between the 4080 and 4090 in what I'd suggested but the 4090 is fast enough to justify it , and at the top end people will pay for the best even at poor value. Might have gone full die AD102 with it too.
Nvidia seems hell bent on creating a multitude of price point options with no performance/cost benefit over previous generations. This is a skip generation

Nvidia has screwed the pooch so hard that not only am I not buying one of their GPU's this generation, I may never buy one of their products ever again unless its just an absolute steal of a deal.

It seems like the current best value can be found in with AMD's lower end RDNA 2, but if you don't like their features or software, that pretty much only leaves you with the 3060ti or the 4070ti... Either you pay above MSRP for an over two year old 60 class GPU, or fork up the cash for a 4070ti, which is sadly the second best value GPU from Nvidia at current prices.
Another delayed upgrade it seems... Been stuck with this 980ti since 2015.

Got myself a 6700 10 GB for just €330 and I'm waiting until Q2 2024. I need 4070 Ti / 7900 XTX ray tracing performance level, in a card that's max 3-slots, max 300 W, has DP 2.1 54+ Gbit/s and is priced close to €500. We'll see if the recession makes them see things my way or else I'm just going to go 2nd hand.

i dont understand the Bus size since my 3080 have 320bit and thats the 10gb version so weird why did they cut it that low on the 4070ti?
Product segmentation. The 4070ti is a 1440p GPU. With its much smaller bus will not age well as 4k games get more demanding over time.
The much larger L2 cache on Ada GPUs allows Nvidia to use smaller memory buses while still retaining decent performance. AMD has done the same; the 6700 XT is 192 bit while the 5700 XT is 256 bit. However, the 6700 XT is clocked much higher and the cache makes up for the lack of memory bandwidth, which means it is a much faster GPU than its predecessor. Hardware Unboxed benchmarked them at the same clock speed and they were pretty much equally fast in that scenario, again despite the 192 vs 256 bit bus deficit.
For the same reason the 128 bit RX 6600 XT competes with the 192 bit RTX 3060 12GB.
Just going to try to keep riding out my over 5 year old computer hoping it can keep up.

What would be your suggestion for someone who has a 1070 and is looking to upgrade? Should I skip the generation and wait for the 50 series, or is the leap in performance so great from a 1070 to a 4070 that it makes it worth it?
Go for 2nd hand I bought 3080ti for $550 today.
If you are happy with the games you play at the resolution and frame rates using the 1070, then yes, skip this generation. The bump from the 1070 to the 4070 would be huge (think 2.6x) . It would be as if you purchased a more energy efficient 3080. But you may also have to upgrade your CPU/Motherboard/RAM to get all of that performance increase, so that is another thing to consider.
3070, 3080, 6800 xt, 6900 xt are all huge upgrades that will do the trick for awhile if you can find them cheap

so in comparrison a 1070 to 4070ti is littlerly 2.5-3 times the performance in games
and i have tested even a 3080ti over my 1070 and games was very smooth
and it alone is 2,5 times faster
so is it worth it

besides the price of a 3090 was over 2000 and now the same performance on a 4070ti you can get for half price
so its worth it there
and also i wont buy 3000 as it is now 3 year old tech and very power hungry
i tested the 3080ti at max 440 watts in games
a 4070ti uses around 230 watts
plenty of videos even to see it
the 1070 just cant keep up any more in high or ultra settings
the cores are losing efficiency
vram of 8 gigs imax at 6500 in some games

4060s will most definitely be 1440p cards. Anything of the quality of a 3060ti or better will do it.
I recently played cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p on medium settings with quality fsr at 60 fps on a 1660Ti. For comparison, it's similar in performance to 1070.
So no, you don't really need 4060 to play on 1080p
@@DeathMetalSon Unless you want RTX enabled, 1080p will be a great option for the 4060. CP2077 looks like doo-doo on medium settings with fsr turned on.
@@joepiazza3756 the memory bus bandwidth and the amount of v ram in the 40 series of the 60’s suggest that it might be a 1440p card. 8gb’s of v ram is awful for current 1440p triple A games.
If I didn't just update my system for $450 ($120 r5 5600, $330 rx 6700 xt), then what I would be 'looking forward' to would be a console - either ps5/xsx or the steam deck. I've 100% given up on pc gaming for this generation and fully expect to go (back) to console the next generation, if prices are still ridiculous. Each gpu since the gtx 900 series have been price gouged - adjusting for inflation, the rtx 3070 should be $360 USD in 2020, not $500, for example.
You can't just "adjust for inflation" though. GPUs that were on old 28 nm nodes aren't going to cost the same as GPUs on 5nm node. GPUs that have 12GB of GDDR6X memory will cost more than 4GB of GDDR5. You have to factor inflation + increase costs of production. Then you probably get a number that's not far from what's on sale now.

@@johnc8327 consumer expect better performance for the same price. If "costs got bigger", it means the companies failed to deliver new products. I don't really believe that costs grew that much, it's clear they are just lying and artificially increased prices after the mining boom and Covid. But even if they didn't, it means they have nothing to offer for a new gen, so there is no gen for the consumer market.

@@johnc8327 Why? CPU prices have remained pretty constant after adjusting for inflation yet they are subject to the same factors regarding technology and costs. It's always been part of the "game". As technology improves you get more for your money. If it didn't work that way, we'd be paying millions of dollars for a 1Tb SSD . . .
You see Nvidia F*ed up by calling the 4070Ti what it is. In the past, that class of card would have been a normal 70 class. Now the 70 class will be like last year's 80 class, same as Turing. I agree it will be $599 but that is still just disappointing, especially as the 70 should be the 4060ti.

Hey good analysis, makes sense to me, hopefully it's slightly above rather than slightly below a 3080, as I also 'think' SM scaling isn't 100% just by adding more, but close enough either way. I'm waiting to see what the 7950/7970XTX is like, AMD really messed up the naming and launch of both the 7900 cards so far, maybe third time's the charm. But I'll probably wait until a (real, 16GB) 4080 is around $900 in my region, there's 10% tax on top so $1050-1100, a good AIB model with overclocking should do 4K / 120 on almost everything. It's not about value any more it's just how much performance do I need/want and unfortunately everything else is just not up to it, the 7900XTX kinda is, but then it's more expensive than a 4080 anyway so it's pointless.

Not much hope left for this gen. Still holding onto my 1060 6Gb. When I bought that card I got a 90% performance uplift at basically the same price as my old 960, with a few bucks added on for inflation. I could really use an upgrade though. If things don't improve I may just get an rx6600 to tide me over for another year or two.

@@Slider93 Haha. No way I'll ever spend that kind of money on a graphics card. I have other priorities. Maybe at a stretch I could justify a 6750xt or a 3060ti but they're just not good value for money right now.
High-end GPUs are dead to me at these prices. At this point, a $700-$1000 OLED is a much better upgrade than a $700-$1000+ GPU.
With OLED, you are getting a transformative display experience. The pixel response and contrast are literally next level - your gaming and media take a massive leap in quality. No GPU upgrade even comes close to promising the same.
IMO, if you own a GPU that plays your games at good quality/performance, and you're still using LCD, then a screen upgrade should be your first priority. Buying a 4090 or 7900 XTX and then playing on a mid-range IPS screen is absolutely backwards.
This post reminds me of all the 1080p 75hz VA monitor having gamers with high end GPUs (you know who you are)

@@ImaMac-PC We have an LG C9 in the living room, which we use for media and console games. It's an older model, but is still an incredible display.
I'm also saving up for a smaller OLED to use with my PC, but waiting until March/April for when many of the 2023 models are out. If none of those are amazing, then I'll be getting the 42 Inch LG C2, which was released in 2022.
@@ImaMac-PC I second that claim, provided you own a GPU that can run at 4k reasonably. Imo the greatest revolution in display technology came with HDR and OLED TVs do the tech actual justice
I'm planning on getting a 4070ti later this year. Coming from a 3060, which was all I could afford in the pandemic, it's a good card but I have a 4k 60 monitor so want to drive it a little better. Prices for second hand (used) are still stupid in the UK, I don't think the GPU market has settled at all. So unbelievably, the best option is to buy new 4070ti at £799, and take it on the chin. Kinda madness - what's the point of spending £750 on a used 3080ti when should just buy new? Also got an eye on the 7900xt, if it tumbles in price by summer it may become seriously compelling.
I would wait since later this year, AMD may have to drop the 7900xt once the 6950xt stock is gone and then nVidia may respond with a refresh (more powerful hardware at same price).

its going to happen again Nvidia is going to set 4070 at $699+ to keep milking RTX3070 shoppers , then AIBS are going to slap extra 100$ on top making 4070 a $750 -$800$ Gpu. you can still get 3070 for 350$- $450 in used market if you act now, Id wager they are going to creep up in price after 4070 gets announced and priced , same as when 4070tis reviews went up , people noped out and got whatever new 3080 and 3080 ti they could when they were selling for $500 -$700 in October.

I wanted to buy RTX 3070 Founders Edition on used market, but price went from 380 euros to 420. There are other models, but I want to get experience with Founder Edition cards and those cards seems to be sparse in my local market as it is. Then I would buy RX 7950 XTX at the end of product life cycle when sellers are selling out their stock and I will sell my RTX 3070.

This is totally a skip it generation...unless you were smart and bought the 1080 so both the 20 and 30 series were skip it and now you have to upgrade. But people like that got to laugh at everyone else during the mining crisis so they deserve to pay for this ridiculous line just to restore karmic balance. I bought a 1060. Most expensive video card choice I ever made when I had to upgrade to a 6600xt for double msrp.
Waiting for a good AM5 Mobo for under 200. That’s my personal hard cap. Until then I’m going to have my 4090 on a OC 10700k. 4090 is such a beast, I got time to really unleash it.
Imo 10700k is perfectly fine, get a higher resolution display and CPU load fill become less
@@Slider93 for now its decent. I’m well over 100fps but with some open world games you can still get some high frame time spikes when there is a lot on screen. The new CPU’s are a lot better even though they are relatively close in release.
Not only done with this gen, done with pc gaming in general.
Gpu's are way too expensive. Better buy a console these days.
Console can also connect keyboard and mouse now for fps.

They just need to accept they missed the mark and drop prices then I might go for an AIB 7900XTX.

I need a cpu upgrade more than a gpu upgrade. Running a quad core i5 at the moment lol my gpu does surprisingly well i have an rtx2070 super i game at 1440p.. People on rtx3070s/3080s need to chill out instead of being like oh no im stuck.. You got that gpu you've had a great experience with your games because of it.. Its not suddenly bad because there is new gpus that exist.. I have been playing with a core i5 4670k thats overclocked and 16gb ddr3 yes ddr3 (oc to 2133mhz) and on my 2070super i run dlss at 1440p on performance mode for dying light 2 and it runs surprisingly well!. Forza 5 is fine too although demanding considering all you do is stare at cactus and a few rocks (what an empty ass game).
Nvidia are punishing gamers right now for gaming on their gpus it seems, they've all got gimped memory bus which makes 0 sense considering the levels of power gpus are at now. Look at it this way years ago we was struggling for 4k gaming with the 1080/1080ti some games would but others had adjusted settings right.
RTX2000 series came and the 2070 became like entry level 4k but the 2080-2080 was at that capable yeah 4k is do able now. Then we had 30 series the 3080 4k almost seemed easy in most cases apart from ray tracing. So how is the 4060 going to be and 4070 when they come with their low crapped out bus bit widths?
The gpus got powerful but then they had to cut in another area to artificially limit it. That level of power had a higher bus before so does this mean last gen might actually be better at 4k?.. Some gaming tests showed the 4070ti loosing to the 3090/3090ti in the 4k tests while nvidia was saying its so much faster this time around.
Imagine having 3090 level of power but not getting that type of performance because of purposefully done hardware limitation like that just to segment the gpu and try push you into buying the higher one with the whole ladder strategy.
Just sit with your rtx3000 series don't bother wishing you had an upgrade because honestly it may not be an upgrade at all if your at like 4k. You could be doing a side-grade that ends up becoming a downgrade in the end.

Did platform upgrade instead, Went from 7+ year old Haswell 8 core cpu to 12 core 12700k, Faster ram, Faster ssd etc etc
All for the same price it would have cost me to repalce my 2080Ti with the newer 4080, Absolute joke that one component is now worth as much as most of the pc.
It is obvious that you should buy Gpus ONLY when Next Gen Consoles will launch again. So when PS6 arrives we should get the best price to performance GPUs again… see ya in 4 years Jenson and Dr.Lisa ;-p

The $799 in the US has dried up and now more mid-800 range. But that is without taxes which will bump that over 900. Prices of over 1000 is worth waiting this one out.
you think 3000 series is good buy? these GPU companines are funneling you to that segment as there is a flood of stock in 3000 series including the mining cards. I found it funny that no one investigates the Mining GPU being professionally cleaned, boxes reprinted to look new and sold on retails stores and after market.😂
Getting the 3000 series new at MSRP is not a good buy. On the second hand market the 3000 series is only a good buy if you can get a 3060ti or around 300USD, a 3070 around 350USD or a 3080 around 500USD.

Having owned one, 3060ti can play many games at 4k, depending on the game of course.
4060ti will perform better.
4070ti is roughly on par with the 3090ti and can absolutely play games in 4k, but is marketed as a 1440p card for high refresh rates. The price is ridiculous so who cares?
But again, use case.
The 4070 should be equivalent to the 3080ti and thus match the previous 70 series releases performance.
When preliminary benchmarks leak we should have a better idea.
If they are aggressive with clock speed, it could be closer to the 3080ti. Let's see how big they will make the coolers.
i got myself a rx6950xt for 770€ considering its about a 3090 levels performance and 4070 ti performance but less than 200€ of the cost

Either 4070 costs $400 or it's dead on arrival. You can literally get a 6800 XT for $550 right now, which is 5% faster than 3080 RTX. Prices in Europe are awful but this msrp basically gets reflected in the end when comparing two GPUs.
I don't give a shit about Nvidia's false advertising and demo tech like RT, usable in 1% scenarios, or DLSS3 which causes input delay.
With how high the 4070 Ti is priced, it wouldn't surprise me if the 4070 is at or just above 650 dollars. With these prices 400 bucks would only get you a 4050 Ti, whenever that comes out
weird theory: gpu manifacturers know about scalpers and know know how to use them to their advantage checkmating both them and the end users. They rise prices to previous scalper level because they know gpus are going to be baught anyway and scalpers define the new level on their skin with the new gen. Maximizing all possible profit without to much of a brand damage and taking it all away form saclpers gen after gen until there wil be no more profit even for scalpers.
moral of the story, scalpers are the enablers of this problem and if taxed hard enough they might vanish
Sadly, bots and scalpers taught the MFRs that more can be had from the early adopters. But once you get past that phase in the first few months, I'm not sure if it's sustainable. Seems like the MFRs are willing to test it out this generation.

it needs to have the same performance as RTX 3080ti. Just like previous generation RTX3070 = RTX2080ti , RTX2070 Super = GTX1080ti.
The 80ti brand was forever damaged this last gen with the intro of the 90-series.
Considering how laughable the performance of the 4070 Ti is at $800, offering 3080 Ti performance at 3080 Ti pricing, it's not surprising that every lower-tier model will be equally laughable.
Go buy yourself a used 3080, 3080 Ti, or 3090. This puts zero dollars in AIB and NVIDIA pockets, and the fewer sales they have=the more they have to lower their price so their shareholders aren't wondering why figures are plummeting

That is a big jump in price class where the 2060 was 349USD MSRP vs 799MSRP for the 4070ti. You did get much better performance, but two generations later, you also paid much more for it as well.
I think it will be $ 700 with 3080ti equivalent performance.

@Steven Turner just watch out for the memory overheating, I hear that can be an issue with gddr6x in ampere cards. That's partly why I chose a 3070 over the ti.
Definitely solid enough cards to see us through 40 series. 1440p and even a decent bit of 4k with dlss is very reasonable still.

@@darthpaulx the 6600 6600xt and 6650xt are a rock solid middle zone for 1080p and 1440p with fsr 2 they'll be holding steady for a good while yet. They kicked the crap out of the midrange nvidia cards for actual pricing in stores. Plus you have the benefit of 9th gen consoles being roughly in the 6600xt to 6700(non xt) range so games will be targeting that level of hardware for quite a while.
@Steven Turner I'm not totally sure, I remember hearing more about it with the 3080 and 3090 not long after launch. By the time the 3070 ti came out I was hearing less about it but it is still gddr6x. If I'm not mistaken, you can monitor the memory temps in Hardware Info 64 but not msi afterburner. The operating temp seems nuts, up to 110c before thermal throttling apparently. The whole reason people discovered the issue was that cards were throttling performance even though the gpu die was fine in terms of temperature. I just did some quick research to refresh my memory.
Generally, I think it depends on the card. If it has a big 3 fan cooler with lots of thermal headroom, probably ok. Although sometimes that's a curse because the gpu die might be cool and the fans aren't kicking on very much so then the memory gets hotter. There's always the option of making a more aggressive fan curve and/or undervolting.
As a 1440p high fps gamer the 4070Ti is just about up to scratch, I don't think it's deserving of the Ti badge tho' it should be able to play all RT games at 165fps (with DLSS 3) to merit the Ti badge. The prospects for the 4070 don't look good to me. I think I'd rather get a 3080 and hope DLSS 3 comes to the rest of the RTX lineup. The 4070Ti is expensive but then so is everything at the moment, it's also overly long in many cases, 337mm for MSI's Gaming X Trio, alot of people will struggle to fit it in their PC. I had to get creative with the front 3 case fans in order to squeeze it into my case which, the handbook says, can accommodate cards up to 320mm. It provides roughly the same performance at 1440p that my old 2070 used to manage at 1080p, it's better suited to 1440p but if you're a 60fps 4K gamer it might be just about enough.
Not only is it 3080 performance for a $100 discount, but it's also 6800 XT for a $50 discount, but with less VRAM. To put this into perspective, you can get a 6800 XT under $599 right now. Why would anyone choose a 4070 over that? Either get a 6800 XT for the same performance with more VRAM at a lower cost or if you really want NVIDIA's features, wait until next generation and skip this one

at this point im just happy with my used 6600xt. After almost 3 years of shortages i found other hobbies than gaming. And im forever grateful to nvidia for this so much time wasted il never get back behind the screen.

anything under 4080 has an equivalent to 30 series. its priced to what the 30 series should've been priced after 2 years.. like a 4070ti being as powerful as 3090 at 800 dollars. yeah. 3090 should be priced cut down to 800 dollars for a 2 year old card. atm im waiting for a 4080 price drop (hope by march... since thats when games start to come out) or a 4090 open box lol. only thing is if i buy a 4080 at current price in march and then a month later hteres price drop, id be pissed lol.
No itsnt. 3090 has bigger cuda, vram etc while 4070ti isn't. So 3090 still has bigger edge especially in productivity. In gaming perhaps same for both cards.
How many skip it generations can you have in a row, 10 series was good, 20 was worth skipping, 30 was good ish, but mining made it worth skipping, so if 40 is a skip it it will be almost 7 years since a GPU worth buying existed a few more and someone can be an adult that never had a GPU worth buying their entire life
That's why I still have a 1070 and it looks like that I might just quit pc gaming all together.
With the hardware becoming that expensive, games being released unfinished or focusing on monetization instead of fun it just doesn't seem worthwhile anymore.
@@fabian11235 I've also got a 1070, still think it's worthwhile hobby ATM but enjoyment per dollar is certainly down, unfortunately I've got a 8700k with my 1070 so to get the most out of a new GPU I probably need to upgrade everything, or live with the up to 10% drop in fps in current games(since the 8700k has zero motherboards with resizable bar support, even though Intel has supported it at the chipset and CPU level since sandrybridge), not a massive deal ATM but I expect you'll be required much more often in newer games with the performance Delta getting higher till your giving away 20-30 fps eventually,
Heck if not for that I would be willing to try a arc GPU
@@jaykoerner Yeah I feel you m8. New gpu and you'd feel terrible leaving that expensive performance you paid for unused so its got to be a new cpu. For that you need a new mobo too, with the expensive ddr5 ram ofc. My psu won't be good enough either so I'd need to replace that. Though I might be able to keep the case and my trusty noctua fans, thats tremendous savings right there xD
I'll probably just end up getting a ps5 and GoW, Demon's Souls, Eldenring, TLoU I + II for the price of one "midrange" GPU
@@fabian11235 I'm weird and feel 4k is overrated(not sure if my vision is bad but I can barely tell 1440 from 1080, and after that it looks the same), so I find the push for 4k good, since it means 1080p performance is great on "mid range hardware" since even that is meant for 1440 or 4k at this point also the lack of real exclusives and the fact I'm a dirty pirate for most single player stuff means that I save money in the long run with a PC even if I have to pay more,
On to the upgrade path, pretty sure I'm gonna do a GPU upgrade this year(debating between 4070ti and 4070, depends on prices and performance I guess)then do the CPU upgrade next year

I agree 1080 to 1440 makes a huge difference 1440 to 4k less so. Really depends a lot on your monitor size.

At this point its not just the euros I'd have to spend anymore its become a question of principle. Nvidia and AMD both smelled ̶b̶l̶o̶o̶d̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶w̶a̶t̶e̶r̶ money in your bank account and are going for every cent you have. Even with higher costs of manufacturing by TSMC for the same die area. NVIDIA shrunk the die size of everything except for the 4090 which almost stayed the same.
The 3090s MSRP to the 4090's its only $100 jump. Thats basically only inflation and I bet they are still making good money on those 4090 gpus.
The 4070ti is $200 more than the 3070ti and only 75% in die size of the 3070ti. Thats a massive saving in manufacturing with a huge price hike. Not only is it smaller, you have less "off cut" on a round 12" wafer filling it with smaller squares. And please dont forget that this was supposed to be the 408012GB for $900 which makes it even worse.
Jensen telling us "Moore's law is dead" while moving from Samsung 8nm to TSMC 4nm. Its dead for the consumer alright. You don't get any of the benefits of technological advancement. Instead that goes straight into NVIDIA's margin.

Almost identical raster performance and the RT performance is right in line with it, not really ahead.

Games a no longer creat for pc ther a creat for consols and both are around the Zen2+ and Navi 21 CPU/GPU.
So ther are not more then a R6/7 Zen 3600 or 3800 CPU combin with a 6700 or 6800 focus for the best Grafik output

I own a 3080 so I would only consider upgrading to a 4080, the 4090 doesn’t exist in my book. I’ll upgrade if and only if it drops close to 800€, I won’t spend more than a grand.
Btw, rest for sure Jensen and NGreedia will market the 4070 as 3x the 3080 (factoring in DLSS 3, of course 😂).

What choice do people have? nVidia is effectively a monopoly and unchallenged. Intel can't compete yet and AMD chooses not too.
Definitely wouldn't say I've called it quits on this generation just yet. As the 4070ti has been around the 800-850. Just waiting to see if there's a sale to knock it 10% and get it for what I feel it always should have been sold for. But if it doesn't I'll stick with my ARK 770. It's running 1440x5240 @ 60hz or better max settings in the games I play. But if the next gen nvidia is as over priced as this gen, unless one of the Quatro offerings is close to proformance and at the coast I'm willing to pay, I might just be done with nvidia all together

4070 renamed to 4080, 4060 renamed to 4070 and 4050 renamed to 4060. This is what Nvidia did. 4070 ti is actually the 4060 ti at best.
