  • We breakdown the details of what's going wrong on the ‪@MilwaukeeTool‬ M18 FUEL 2767 1/2" Impact Wrench models with the H96B serial designation. We take it apart and compare to our 2863 OneKey High Torque model. Milwaukee Tool provides us with their official response on the matter and we share it word for word. We can easily be the armchair quarterback and talk about what shoulda been, but the reality is, Milwaukee is making the right decision in repairing the issue. #milwaukeetool #bestimpactwrench #impactwrench

@@Shoptoolreviews that's truly the weirdest reply to a comment I've seen in a while. What else should one think? Your response says you don't agree but aren't willing to correct them. Large manufacturers move Mountains when they get public negative press showing their mistake for all to see. Large swaths of customers would make sure to avoid buying H96B because they know it has issues. Milwaukee sold those for a while without self correcting or even investigating because TTC did some very public tests along with their viewers and other UA-camrs. The difference is their professional, communication style, reporting the issue, and being scientific/analytical about it.

So, Milwaukee Product Managment to R&D: How do we decrease cost on this over-Engineered product that we sell a lot of? Milwaukee R&D: we would have to see if we could decrease the cost of the mechanical compoents as the rest of the tool, motor, electronics, plastic housing would be leg work to change and have diminishing returns on cost savings. We could change the front housing to plastic, as a quicky like Ryobi did on one of their impact wrenchs. Milwaukee PM: nope I don't think that would be well received. R&D: Ok, what about removing the redundant bearing, and depend on lateral movement off the much smaller front motor bearing. Milwaukee PM: Sounds good, what else? R&D: We could change the cast planetary gear holder to a simple plate with pressed in planetary gear shafts. PM: Ah that will save quite a lot of money. R&D: but the shafts would only be supported by one side. PM: Quit talking, make it happen!

Seems pretty apparent that the changes were made in the spirit of cost-cutting. I don't know how they never managed to catch the issue(s) during internal testing, particularly when there seems to be such a high failure rate. It seems very obvious by looking at the pins that they won't last long. In a competitive tool market, I hope that Milwaukee has learned a lesson here.

Why would they say IF you're having a problem ?? They won't even acknowledge that there's a problem! no longer be sold. Our developmental testing of this mechanism did not reveal the symptoms described by users, but the feedback is clear, and our decision to replace product is ultimately the right thing to do for them."
I'm pretty sure they're admitting that they messed up. Of course, a complete recall could be an option, but that's not our call. We just want to make sure they take care of the consumer (you). Thanks for watching.

I'm glad they're honoring their warranty, and taking care of those who were effected. Also glad this was put out, as it may well have been in the cards for future "updates" on other SKUs. The "COVID" excuse has grown old. I like Milwaukee just like the next guy (Mostly for M12), But they seem to get a pass for anything they do that is questionable. Shtufft happens. This is one of the most popular impact guns for good reason. I just would have liked a better reason for the change in the first place. I find the response "Products can change in their lifetime..." to be a bit vague. Yeah they can, but why? Like Tim said in the video, it's usually to try to improve something. So I'm concerned that the real answer might be: "We thought we could cut corners to save a buck and get away with it, but it didn't work". Again, I hope that is not the case. Good video as always, I just like to see the inner workings and understand the design changes of this stuff.

Could also have been their supplier of bearings was/has raised their material costs then passed that increase along to Milwaukee, triggering a trickle-down effect. Their engineering dept was likely tasked with eliminating the rear support bearing and believed the planetary pins would last, which clearly they won't. I'm just glad they are going back to what works.

Thanks again brother for another great video.
I am very impressed with the speed that Milwaukee took care of this issue.
Unfortunately as your test proved, not all tools have the issue. That is why defects such as this can get out. Based on what I have seen, pins shearing, I'm wondering if it is a hardness of the pins. If a batch of the pins from the manufacturer was not hardened properly but still shipped, then this is the result. I worked at a automotive manufacturing plant that made shocks. We had a batch of rods get out that was not hardened properly. Thank goodness the problem was discovered before they was put on a vehicle. If a problem happened during the hardening process and the operator chose to let them go anyway, well, here you go.
While I am a fan of Milwaukee I do own something from the rest of the colors available.
I do not remember seeing a company jump on a issue this fast and absolute.
Kudos to Milwaukee for standing behind their products. This actually makes me a bigger fan. Customer service can make or break a company.
    Stay strong brothers.

    Question for Milwaukee specialists:
I have a Milwaukee M18 FMTIW2F12 that has an interesting bug. When I press the switch, the machine spins and diode number 3 (third gear) lights up for a long time. Only when the diode turns off is it possible to change the direction of rotation and start again. In addition, the maximum speed (diode number 3) cannot be changed. In order for it to work at all and not to wait for diode number 3 to go out, I remove and put back the battery. That means to change the wheels on a car that has 5 screws, I have to remove and put back the battery 10 times. Once I press the switch, I must not stop until the job is done, otherwise there will be a long pause or re-inserting and removing the battery.
Impact wrench M18 FMTIW2F12 with 881 Nm loosening torque and 745 Nm torque Extremely compact design with a length of only 152 mm. Which I found in the trash (500 $) that I want to fix...
    .................
Eureka! I repaired my impact wrench today. The error was in the brown main switch. To make it even more fun, I found the machine and the spare part in the trash. Maybe my experience will help someone who has similar problems?
    Greetings from Switzerland

No where was this just "Marketing speak" they admit they made a mistake and took corrective actions. Actually very fast I might add.
Your bias is showing, what color? Yellow or Teal ?
Personally I do not remember a company jumping on a issue this fast. When the problem was discovered it was addressed within a few days. With 100% replacement and complete recall of the defective tool.
I'm not sure what more could have been done besides what was done. Rather you like Milwaukee or not, as a company I am very happy to see them stand behind their products.
I personally own Milwaukee, Dewalt, Skil, Makita and Craftsman. I would like to think that any of the other Crayola brands would step up to this level of customer satisfaction but I seriously doubt it would be done at the time frame Milwaukee did.
      Stay strong brothers.

@@randysmith9636 You really can't see the marketing speak at the end? Question 2 for one, why did the design change? Products change etc didn't hit the mark. Marketing speak, totally avoided why the design changed. We all know why, it was too save money by eliminating the encasement and bearing. How the engineering team didn't see how 3 pins could handle that load is beyond me, total coaster F*** from the get go. Question 4... How did they not catch it. Simple, they didn't do the r&d and QA they should have. These were failing left and right out of the box, to say they didn't see anything during testing is laughable. Did they not catch the stuttering either? They through that together and sent it to market and hoped for the best. The only reason why anything was done because it hit the internet like a shit storm and did it to avoid any more negative press.7 impacts to find one good one? Something is terribly wrong with the parts and or design and should not have made it passed the drawing board but it did to save cost

      Yellow, gotta be.
Not all tools have this issue, his didn't. I commented on the pin issue in a post. Of course they test, seriously, you don't think they dont. You do not get to be the biggest and have the "overall" baddest tools on the market by not testing or giving a crap.
I personally do not know why the change was made. Regardless though, if the change does not effect the quality or effectiveness of the tool, as a consumer we never know about these changes by ALL manufacturers. All companies, be it auto manufacturers, tool manufacturers or any other widget you can think of make changes. Sometimes to simplify a design, cost savings (which is a dang good reason if you own the company) or manufacturing issues.
I personally believe it is from a bad batch of harden pins. That would explain why it only happened for a few tools, especially those from a certain batch.
That would explain why 7 tools in a row failed, they all received the defective pins.
So you are complaining because they jumped on it in a timely manner? You cannot fix a issue until you are made aware of it.
To say that Milwaukee was aware of the issue and chose to just say the hell with it, ship it anyway is nothing short of absurd.
Show me any other company that had a problem with its product and addressed it this fast. You say they only did it because of the internet and it showed a problem. Well duh, how else would it be discovered so quickly and brought to their attention. Milwaukee jumped on it fast to protect their name, customers and just good CS.
Not sure why that is such a bad thing. As a customer I am very happy that they would.

So I just bought one of these and it turned out to be the B model. Great. The first time I used it, it sounded off. I also thought I was not pressing the trigger a couple times when it stuttered. I felt that I liked my mid-torque much better. Then I heard about this new change. I did another brake job and the unit appeared to work fine. So now what do I do? I rarely use this tool but I don't want the piece of a crap new design. Milwaukee is pulling all the B models of the shelf and will no longer sell them. They should recall of the B models from the public as well.

Firstly MW tried to cut costs and then got caught. Secondly, their official statement is complete BS. There was no attempt whatsoever to improve the product. Instead of upgrading the high torque (as has been done to everything else in the impact lineup), they chose to put profits ahead of their customers. Then to add insult to injury, they jacked up the price! MW is already getting beat by their competitors with impact wrenches. What are they waiting for? Upgrade!

Milwakee tryed to pull a fast one and take out parts and then jack up the price without telling their customers. Its a shady thing to do and plus Dewalt high torque beats milwaukee high torque and Dewalt mid torque is the best on the market by a long shot atm. Milwaukee is behind the 8 ball.

Their decision to make this "rolling change" seems pretty dirty to me. The 2767 is basically known as the OG electric impact that gave all the air guns a run for their money (and the reason I got one) and has a reputation for being able to take some abuse. When I look for a certain model # I expect for them to be the same from one to the next. The "b" models are clearly an inferior design with those pins being in single shear. If they're going to make a design change like that, it needs to have a different model #, IMO. It'll make me think twice about buying Milwaukee next time.

They probably spent a million dollars in R&D to save $5 on a bearing only to have it backfire and cost them more money. I hope this is a learning lesson for them. Don't take a working design and cut corners without thorough testing in REAL WORLD ENVIRONMENTS. Forget all the lab testing. Nothing compares to a tool that's been dropped several hundred times, left out in the rain and used in sub-zero temperatures and more importantly, lent to a friend who promises to take good care of it.

Some people intentionally repeat what they say as a way to extend their videos in order to meet UA-cam algos which benefits ad revenue. ?
