Movie Pardes hit me personally b/c I m an Indian-American from the 90s. Bollywood gives a distorted image of our lives. But at that time there were a lot of people like the 2 movie brothers in real life around me. The good Shahrukh n the evil brother.
There is a solid psychological reason behind why a few Indian Americans/NRIs turned out like that in the 90s. The good news is circumstances have changed now and today, more of us are like the ShahRukh character. I believe bollywood/media should actually make movies that deal into the psychologies and existential realities that creates such personalities. It was a coping mechanism from conflicting messages sent by their parents and the society about inferior/superior complex. Trying to learn their place in a discriminating, hierarchial society and trying to fit in.
