Update on our "teenage" chicks...plus the surprise we found when we got home from physical therapy!

- The chicks are getting SO big now! I still see no sign of a rooster in this bunch so in a few months we should start getting lots of eggs, finally! We also wanted to share the surprise that we saw when we got home from Rod's physical therapy...quite a nice surprise...super cute! Oh, you know you want to watch the video to find out what the surprise was, right?

I hope those babies can make it. We had a hen hatch out three chicks last month and one of the chicks a crow got, one of our cats got one and we don't know what happened to the other one. I hate that when that happens but there's nothing you can do about it. Every now and then we will have surprise chicks too, that is always fun.
Yep, fun while it lasts...it's a dangerous life for chicks on a farm.....

Get some lath . . . easy to cut . . . fasten with bread ties 😅
We have plenty of branches, no need to buy them. He fastened them with zipties, the bred ties would have been too small and fastening them together would have been hard to make it sturdy. We've made them with those before, but screwed them together.
Shouldn't the maama with 4 chicks have their own enclosure till chicks are a bit bigger? To ensure survival, firstly from the cat, mine grew up with the cats but I ever left them unattended
When the momma hatched out the chicks is when we had two weeks of triple digit heat. The only enclosure I had they would have died from the heat in the barn. That was the same time we were getting the teenage chicks out and they weren't even in the smaller enclosure anymore. Bad timing on momma chickens part. I had no idea she was setting somewhere until she came up with those chicks. She set on a nest down in the woods apparently.

@@meenha1976 Farms are dangerous places for new chicks and she is a new mom. But we got the kitties to leave them alone, amazingly as they are all great mousers! We caught Monkey stalking the once and stopped her and made sure she knew to leave them alone. Then Hershey was playing with one and we got him to stop. Now they just walk right by them and don't pay them any attention.....

Oh it's getting better. I just told him yesterday it's time for another update! He got new things to do at PT yesterday! He hit his 8 week evaluation. As soon as he let's me I'll get some video and work on the update. He's still getting used to being in front of the cameras. LOL!
