Just a pure guess on my part (maybe a Costco associate can give us some inside information on the sly). Costco goes to third party product manufacturers. They may have used a different manufacturer for the yellow ball. Since these were released well after the white v3, that would be my guess for the differences anyone may be noticing. Great video. Thanks.
ive been playing the v3 since it came out and when the yellow ones dropped I got a pack and the feel much harder when chipping and putting and has a higher pitch sound
It would help if you alternated yellow and whites while you hit and then grouped them by color, so in case there is swing degradation from fatigue, it would be reflected in both balls.
I picked up a box of the yellow Kirklands a few weeks ago. I was very pleased with the results and I enjoyed the feel. I preferred them over the V2 white and I have not tried the V3 white balls.
The molding department where i work uses different color cores in items that are marketed to be the same. The different color cores are so we can keep track of which machine (out of 4 machines running the same exact part in different colors) the cores were made on in case one machine starts cranking out defective units.
Espon salts to examine the core position, but must be a system to test each balls compression. Some form of hand clamp you apply compression to a pressure then check using calipers. I would love see what the true out ofthe box compression is? Kirkland should be 86 comp same as prov1.
Wow I’ve been strictly playing the new kirkland v3 balls both white and neon yellow and had no idea they were different! I thought I was only playing the neon yellow because of the color but now that I think of it, I definitely subconsciously preferred the feel of them too! When just messing around at the house and juggling them around or what not, the neon yellow always felt nicer. Makes sense that they are a little softer. Now looking at both in front of me, they forsure feel slightly different. Very interesting observation, great review.
Always love the Kirkland content.👍👍 One thing to note about the Kirkland balls, they cost $7.00 more online than in the store. I guess that gets me to the store more often so I will buy lots more other stuff. 😜
@@xaviera8761Yes sir, bang on. The website will always tell you if the product is in store for a cheaper, non shipping price as well. Costco is a beautiful store that loves its customers and goes out of their way to make sure customers don’t have a reason to be pissed off.
Love your content Gabe. As I was watching your video, I was wondering if you could ever do a video where you compared your GC4 with a Trackman and talk about the differences and why one might be preferable to the other. Depending on who you listen to, people strongly prefer one to the other. Also, it always seems to be one or the other when you go to the big shops. Example: Golf Galaxy - Trackman, PGA Tour Superstore - GC4, 2nd Swing - Trackman. I trust your opinion and would find that content super interesting. What do you think?
If I can get my hands on a Trackman then I would absolutely love to do that. Both have their advantages and drawbacks. I like the portability of the GC4 and the trackman is great when you’ve got enough space. GC4 has better simulation option, Trackman has better stat reporting. Both extremely accurate.
I was very excited to see your review as I just bought the Costco yellow ball last week and I have played a couple of rounds with them. I prefer yellow for some reason I see them better. I have always said if Costco come out with yellow balls I would never need to purchase any other other brand for my skill level. That being said I think the balls are a bit to green I prefer the color of Sirxion and Calloway but not enough to pay the difference. Also they did to seem to scuff easily. Of course that is due to the urethane cover I' sure. Performance was great! So yes for me I can't see any reason to use anything else. Thank you so much for your channel as I really enjoy and value your opinion. keep up the good work. One question. Do you have a way to actually measure compression? You never know they could be different.
Maybe yellow uses the older version urethane outer cover, based on comments about significant scuffing. I think Costco fixed that issue on the v3 white ball, yes? A thinner or softer outer shell that might lend to the slightly softer feel of the yellow one…
Possibly adding color to the resin could cause a small difference in the two balls. I experienced something similar a few years ago with the Snell balls.
I experienced something similar when I was playing the Snell MTB X yellow ball. It felt better than the white ball and was better performing with irons and the driver. I ended up playing this ball for around 2 years until I started playing the Callaway chromesoft.@@LetsPlayThru
I play a lot at a rough little muni where it can be easier to lose a ball, so the lower price of the Kirkland's suits it well. I got the yellow in hopes they would be easier to find. To me, it seemed like the cover showed damaged quicker than I remember of the white.
@@LetsPlayThru Dean Snell is having a very difficult time trying to replace the yellow urethane covers they used to offer. He had an interview with My Golf Spy that touched on it.
I still play the Spadling SD Tour. I have found nothing better on this planet. The hit jobs are hilarious since I normally break 80 with them and have never felt a bad one yet.
There is a disturbance, I love red non-mat balls from Vice. Can see them well and find them great. Have found visibility of yellow, green, and red have much better visibility with the same feel.
I play the vice pro sometimes, but have not tried the red ones..I don't like mat finish golf balls but I see the red color a lot easier. So I am going to have to try those being a not mat finish. Some of my golf buds say they can't pick up the red very well either, like Gabe says. Maybe it's sort of a color blind thing, idk.
I enjoy when you do golf ball reviews. I’m always testing on my own. Have gotten to really like the Oncore Vero X2s, basically all I use now. Want to get some of these you tested against the Oncore. Side note … Oncore in my testing was better than Pro V. Will let you know what I see with Costco ones against the Oncores.
Nice test and review. But…. I no longer use Kirkland golf balls. I stopped using them for over a year now. Reason: they will not last a round-not even a 9 hole round. The surface gets damaged too easily and the ball has to be replaced, even twice on the same hole sometimes. People offer me found Kirklands or I find them myself. I just throw them back in the bushes. There are plenty of more durable golf balls out there that still have the soft feel and control that we all like. Might I suggest Callaway Chrome Soft as an alternative.
I have litterally an few thousand golf balls all good and clean and Seperated with compression ratings, and Cover on an home made chart and yet Play nothing but the Prov1 ,to me nothing has ever beat it!
Im guessing they just ran each color in huge batches and the color of the core varied for whatever reason. Perhaps a running change to either improve performance or reduce manufacturing costs. Could have even come from different plants.
Thank you Gabe for doing this review and clearing up the matter. Basically unless you have a robot hitting the ball for consistency, the numbers that you showed are absolutely normal for a human testing and it depends on where there was hit on the club face as well as another guys swing could produce either more or less spin and produce even different results possibly some of them identical with both balls. So any differences were so minimal for the average golfer I would say with robot testing there likely would be almost spot on the same. Is nothing to worry about here, there’s no point in people being critical about splitting hairs. It’s a great product and for the price if it bothers them… Let them go pay for the pro V1 or something else that breaks the bank
Gabe, soft compression = lower spin. That is why the Callaway super soft golf balls are one of the lowest spinning on the market. So your hunch about the yellow balls being softer seems to be borne out.
Abe, your swing speeds and carry are very similar to me in the irons, but you definitely have me off the tee. I can't seem to break 92mph (consistently) w my driver... 220 +/- carry is typical for me. Also I've been playing Kirkland balls for 3 years.
I finally hit the point that i confidently play 1 to 2 balls max over 18 holes. I appreciate the budget reviews, but at a $1/ball difference, I'll play a prov1 or TP5. I dont lose enough balls anymore for price to matter, and the inconsistencies in other balls just isn't worth it.
Sounds like they had an accidental upgrade haha. The firm feel of the white ball has always been the one thing i wish they would soften up a touch. Also find it interesting that the internal coloring of this ball looks almost identical to the Titleist yellow AVX, which is coincidentally just a touch softer than the Pro V1, which the white Kirkland is always compared to. PS, softer compression leads to less spin, so your assumption there was backwards, which is why you were surprised by the reality of that in the results.
Is there a Costco in the Netherlands? Is Kirkland sold by another company in the Netherlands? I’m really interested in these balls. Would love to try them out.
I think golf spy testing shows there are differences between white and yellow with the pro v1. The yellow pro v1 is a little longer than the white. They suggest it may be due to paint thickness but aren’t sure
if you use a yellow golf ball in Australia you are more likely to have a magpie or crow pick them up and fly off with them. sounds weird but I have witnessed it a bunch of times and it is always the yellow balls they go for.
you should really alternate shots between the 2 colors so your not finishing every session a tad more tired than the first...especially when it comes down to driver in the end....
What you continue to prove is the performance consistency of today’s equipment. Whether it’s Driver, Irons, Putter, or in this case, Balls, it all comes down to personal preference. Is there any toxic manufacturer out there?
Great video, Gabe! I thought there was a little difference. The white V3 felt a good bit firmer/clickier than the V2. I think the yellow V3 is somewhere in between them, which I really like. I have really enjoyed the overall performance of the yellow V3 so far its seems to be just as durable as the white V3, which was a big improvement over the V2's durability.
those numbers really just show that they are probably the same ball.. 5 shots a piece is no where near the data to see a real difference. Those numbers were all so so close .. same ball. The interesting thing is the "feel" that you say felt different. Wonder if there is something there... but I'm gonna say probably just same ball different color dye in the material.
