Sean, that's a hiking pole. You need to adjust it to the correct height for you to use the grip and not use it as a walking stick. bring your forearm up so your elbow makes a right angle and that should be correct for your stick height. Happy trails!

Hi Sean, yes, six years ago I was treated for liver cancer due to nonalcoholic fatty liver, a quarter of my liver was removed.
    I’m doing very well now.
I ate at local food places, laced with too many unhealthy fats and sugars, plus I usually had a glass of wine (sugar).
I have lost 60 lbs due to eating natural food and feel so much better, as follows:
Protein: Lean meat - Chicken - Ground Beef (mincemeat) with only 10% fat, etc.
Sugar: I don’t add Sugar unless I’m making a dessert.
Dark chocolate - 72% or higher is already 25% sugar and candy chocolate is ~ 80% corn syrup sugar or another garbage ingredients.
Milk and half n half, are good sources of protein and energy, a clean natural food.
Try a colon health bulk laxatives such as Metamucil or Benefill every day (between meals) for awhile, It will help maximize absorption of nutrients.
Avoid as much processed foods or pre-prepared meals, they’re filled with unhealthy ingredients.
Avoid bread or baked goods, and cereals, they turn into sugars.
Potato’s, try a less Starchy (sugary) spud such as "white Gold" "Yukon gold" (in California). They are creamy when mashed and make tasty mashed potatoes.
Now that I’ve lost weight, my B/P has returned to the level of my teens and the only med I take is a minimal dose of medication every other day.
Make your own salad dressings with healthy oil such as Xtra virgin (better flavor) Olive oil, I also use Avocado oil for cooking, however I stay away from most other tree nut oils, unless I need to occasionally fry something in a higher temperature oil, such as Grapeseed oil.
Analyse the food you like, to see where you will gain the most nutrition and stop buying empty calorie foods.
Drink water several times a day to flush things through.
Salt: I eliminated salt for the past 50 years (I’m 75) due to hypertension, but have added it back in about 5 years ago and coupled with the weight loss, I can now add salt whenever I wish, while my hypertension is a thing of the past, and often is slightly Low now.
Exercise: like you, I haven’t owned a car for many years, so the walking we do is certainly enough for weight loss and general healthiness.
I would love to share a picture of my walking cane, it’s an heirloom to leave for another generation, I mounted an antique walking stick knob on the top that came off a walking cane circa 1860’s London (where I was born), the initials engraved are CD , Charles Darwin, Charles Dickens?
Raw veggies are harder to digest so steaming (carrots/broccoli), etc improves the flavor and retains more nutrients.
I’m trying to eat plain whole milk yogurt instead of over processed ice cream (my weakness).
    Supplements that most people should use, Vitamin D-3 ~ 5,000 iu/day and Vitamin K-2 ~ 200 Mcg/day.
Vegetables and beans: for roughage - Minerals, vitamins.
I will go to your account homepage and see if I can e-mail this photo of the Walking stick.
Cheers from San Diego California. and hope this is helpful.

I think most of the UK is at risk of NAFLD. But while you are addicted to sugar you will suffer and the more sugar you eat the worse the addiction. Number one (and I keep saying this) first reduce sugar and on most days, cut it out completely. Best to literally throw all the sweets, biscuits etc in one of those bin bags in the street. Until you can cope with this do not worry about any other advice at all.

Hi Sean, I do love this vlog. Your heartfelt sharing touched me. I have been in postion like yours off and on throughout my life. Much sleep was lost and fears got hold of me. Hearing someone say, " its going to be alright" is priceless. And I also must say, that although you may be strapped for cash right now, YOU ARE A RICH MAN. The place you live is just beautiful. I would love to have somewhere like that to walk and explore so near to my home. Lastly, I loved the way you were able to laugh when you slipped, thinking I have to get some proper walking shoes, and the slip as if just to prove the point.

Val's present was very sweet and thoughtful.
About the debt, totally agree. I was in a very similar situation and when it was clear there was no way I could repay with the mounting interest, I contacted them and arranged a voluntary plan where I only pay a few pounds a month and the interest is stopped. That last point is the most important, as it was the interest that was causing the biggest slide into higher and higher debt. I had already virtually paid back all the capital I borrowed. The relief is tremendous.

Eating healthy is great and having an exercise plan is a great combo, such as you traveling the hills of Wales where you live. Remember now that you are doing this on a regular basis you are also building muscle which weighs too when you jump on the scales. So continue to eat healthy without processed foods and you will see a wonderful difference. Keep up the walks and soon you will see you will need smaller clothes. Bravo to you Sean for taking the bulls by the horns and moving to a place that gives you happiness and peace of mind. Take care from Laura in Canada.

I only eat once per day at around 6pm. Piece of meat and any veg grown above ground. Cut out the carbs and sugars, eat clean natural foods including fats and dairy. Hi Sean. One of the best ways to combat it is 16:8. Fast for 16 hours, don't eat after 6pm if possible and fast through the night. That will have a pretty much immediate effect on your liver. Some people do it 2-3 times per week but if you can do it just about every night, you'll speed up the repair. I have a congenital defect in my liver and it also benefits from this process.

Agree. I get gallbladder flair ups & when I had burnout 4 months where zero energy, I just naturally began eating around 11 am, then early evening to allow complete rest of system. It is now second nature to me, unless special occasion where a breakfast is a must!! It was also motivated by exhaustion where couldn't face making meals so one main meal a day around 6pm was what I focused on, with a lighter snack midday or brunch. Its saved me monies in this cost of living crisis as I'm not having to go out & source or prepare, 3 meals per day; like b 4. I try only have sugary treats at the 6pm meal, too (unless a celebration like Xmas or birthday!!). I've got a thing for Sains fresh baked granola bars at the moment, so really look 4ward to it at the 6pm meal & fully appreciate the flavours like with my lindor truffles (I find I don't take sweet treats 4 granted now its limited 2 the evening meal).

This has been the most philosophical video you have produced since I have been following you. As you just said, it really isn't about the destination its about the journey. You are an inspiration because you have faced up to reality and thats the hardest thing for us all to do, especially in this day and age of relentless commercial propaganda telling us to keep up with some shangri-la of having it all, as we imagine our neighbours do. You have gone back to looking for meaning, well done. Agree walking boots are definitely a necessity as you don't want to be caught out stranded on the mountain in bad weather. Thats one purchase which is not an extravagence. Great video.

I was diagnosed recently with the same thing and started intermittent fasting, cut out all sugar and most carbs. Following mostly a keto diet. In 2 months have lost 2 stone and my markers have dropped to normal. Was surprised but sticking to it. Also only eat sourdough now. I did all this and lost the weight without excercise as other health conditions limit my amount of excercise drastically.

Thank you for our little walk together today, Sean. I was feeling a bit tired and it was just lovely to see the scenery. Do take care, was lucky you had your stick today, probably broke your fall. I'm not such a young thing myself and try to stick to more smooth paths when I go out. I learned this when one day I was sitying in A n E and an older lady, all kited out for hiking came in, she had broken her leg and I thought was probably being way too ambitious, lol.

Hi Sean. My eldest son is also 50 next month. The 15 th to be exact. Why don’t you buy some hiking sticks from a reputable store that sells walking sticks and camping gear. I’ve got some and they are great for walking in difficult terrain.

We live in a society Sean which is unfortunately powered by debt. The young live by it with their subscriptions to phone contracts, TV contracts, vehicle leasing etc. We have one advantage in that when WE realise this we can become debt free and live well very cheaply. If we choose not to take on any further debt that is. I own my own home here on The Isle of Wight, after moving from London. I am debt free and live well but modestly and I am so much the happier for it. They can't touch me mate and soon they will not be able to touch you 🙂

Hi Sean. Those mushrooms don't need peeling or the stalks removing. Just trim the stalks a little if necessary. A lot of the flavour and nutrients are in the stalks. I love mushrooms!

Great content Sean ,sometimes people just want truth when b/s seems to be the norm these days ,luckily I`ve mostly kept my head above water as the saying goes now at 77 I see so many suffering with debt and self doubt I wonder how it has all gone so badly wrong in this country ,staying positive is a must and enjoying what nature offers us.TO BE HONEST i was getting a bit bored with your content whilst in London but you have taken on a new lease of life back on homeground ,Thankyou for your honesty and I`m sure you will help people`s mindset to face things headon .and hope you don`t mind my honesty.x

What a lovely varied video Shaun. Fabulous gifts i think that stick saved your fall a bit.hope your back is ok.loved the "deep" chat. As for your soup if you put a bit of flour in the frying process it will thicken it in the slow cooker, also pearl barley is a thing i buy and that also thickens it up and makes it filling more like a stew then.x

When you are out in the woods I sware I can feel my blood pressure drop. Please be careful when you are walking in a bad section of the path. I did have to laugh when you said the soup is calling and then oh there is a trail going that way lets go. The book nook is so cute, great job Val. My husband had NAFL about 8 years ago. He gave up sugary snacks, bread, and we changed to no more processed lunch meats. Did more stir-fry veg, roasted veg, and home made soups. 6 months his numbers were normal again. Soup looked beautiful! ❤

Sean you should try a pair of hiking poles as they provide great support and stability and I find them easier to manage than a stick. I like the strap that goes round my wrist as I am forever dropping things and arthritic hands are hopeless for gripping anything. I'm 63 and had a total knee replacement and love the poles for the extra confidence and security they give me.

I think...for myself...I love the word content, as in contentment. It's such a different feeling from "Happy" it seems "Happy" is so shortlived but content seems much more long lived.
Debt can suck up one's soul. Weigh heavy on your shoulders and eat up all the contentment.
I'm not "Happy" living in a caravan or overflowing with an abundance of joy. But I'm content. My bills are paid, I'm debt free, and i can breathe freely.

I would wack in the chicken and all the ingredients straight into the slow cooker including the stock cube with boiling water poured in to the pot (no need to mix it with the water - saves on the washing up!). I'd leave it all day and turn up high for an hour or so before I want to eat it.

Read up on intermittent fasting, it can completely reverse fatty liver. Basically giving your body a rest part of each day, eating within a specific time frame. A good book is Fast, Feast, Repeat by Gin Stephens

Yes, I alway brown my meat before a final cook, because the frying releases so much more flavor. Didn't you put your chicken in raw the first time you used your slow cooker? The book nook and books are stunning. What a gift.
I, too, have fatty liver disease, but am reluctant to give up snacks and junk food goodies!
Oh well, live is best in balance. Thanks for the walk video.

Well, that didn’t end the way we would have all liked! Slipping and falling is painful at the best of times so a long soak in the bath to ease your back Sean before it locks or the muscles get sore.
Also if you squeeze a fresh lemon… or two of you choose, into some hot water with a teaspoon of honey that will help detoxify your liver of triglycerides. It is those you definitely want to ward off and the drink will help you. I would do it in the morning before your first cup of tea, if not drink it before bed so it can work on breaking down the Triglycerides in your blood so helping the liver. Do it everyday or night now. Have to say the Doctor was a bit strange to tell you to look it up with Doctor Google… makes me question the eight years of university there I have to say.
Well, how lovely was the book nook? I’ve never heard of one before or seen one I’ve obviously been living under a rock over here in the flat lands of Lincolnshire. I was choked to see Rusty on the book cover how thoughtful of Val.
Thank you for sharing another wonderful and informative Vlog with us all and to be so openly candid about your own struggles and to share wise words with others to help was so kind.
Feet face forward we must keep moving and staying positive that’s for sure.
Hope your feeling not to stiff from the fall and you have a wonderful day. ❤
