“Soviet ship usually weren’t that bad.”
Forgets about a class of Soviet destroyers whose hulls would SHATTER WHEN THEY HIT ROUGH SEAS!!!

14:53 Look up some of the designs or cancelled ships from around the time of the London and Washington Treaties sometime, they're pretty interesting.

The 180mm guns weren´t inherently bad. They were just worsened by the fact that they wanted to make them fire at a similar range to most 11in/280mm guns, which absolutely wrecked their barrel. But as far as I know, they recognized this fact and "downgraded" their guns back to their original condition, which made them very decent.
But overall yes, the ship wasnt able to fight against anything substantial. Even the much hated Königsberg class of the Kreigsmarine would absolutely shred them. And each hit would be very painful, because the hull was overweight and would be extremely prone to flooding damage. So the biggest ship of its enemies that this would be able to fight against was the Emden cruiser on the German side, or maybe the Agano cruiser on the Japanese side, and that´s a big MAYBE.

Kavkaz guns were somewhat okay once they de-rated the charges slightly and improved the barrel rifling liner. The Kirov's tripple-gun turrets were an utter disaster though, they were so cramped they could only fire around 2 RPM when the expected rate of fire was 6 RPM, now contrast this with Kavkaz that could at least manage 4 RPM in practical RoF on her singles. All of this because some bright spark though they could squeeze an extra barrel into a turret originally designed as a twin-gun turret

Basically means “Russian ingenuity”. In the same way that there’s “freedom” and then what American’s consider THEIR version of “freedom”, it’s a nationalistic pride kind of thing for Russians to come up with “simple, cost effective ways to get stuff done”.
Except those ways are always dumb, and not the kind of thing that should EVER be done long term, or as any form of state-sponsored or standardized system.
The example I learned (From where I first learned the term, a Lazerpig video) was how Russia is having school children (gradeschoolers and kindergarteners) making trench candles for the soldiers fighting on the frontlines and the Russian media painted that as a good thing, ingenious…rather than the fact that you have CHILDREN making supplies for your soldiers, and those “supplies” are for TRENCH warfare, which is what Russia was reduced to doing because of how utterly inept they are.

Look, even as an abysmally bad cruiser, Kavkaz is still a cruiser and a destroyer isn't a huge threat to it outside of eating a torpedo just like any other cruiser. She still has 3-inches of armor which is quite enough to protect her from 5-inch gunfire and she only needs one or two hits with her miserable 4x1 7.1-inch guns to cripple an enemy destroyer.
Should she wind up fighting an enemy cruiser though she'd be horribly outgunned even by a light cruiser.

The Occurrence Border. Not even a contest. I’d rather fight daemons every time I go to the ship’s mess than serve on a Czarist/Soviet/Russian Navy vessel.
