This was my High school sweetheart and my song, he could walk in a room and I would get butterflies. I was only fourteen years old when he asked me to the July 4th fireworks at our high-school football field, my mom had to drive me to meet him because he was a month away from getting his license. Things were so different back then, 1980. I close my eyes when i hear this song and see us as teenagers so madly in love. Two sons and 42 years later and we are still together. He's the love of my life, truly my one true ❤️ love.
True role models which we have in short supply this days. Most celebrity are known for multiple relationships and kids all over the country. God bless you and keep you for each other. ❤❤
I disagree. You have changed, not human nature. You used to have more illusions about other people. This tune was released in 1980. Even a tIny peek at that decade -- let alone the preceding 5,000 years of written history -- shows terrible atrocities happening routinely. You and me are no doubt fine people, but we all "remember" things as we imagined them, not as they were. I remember the 60s as being full of optimism -- because I was. But older people remember lynchings, shootings, polio, indoor smoking, and terrible car safety. The 80s were filled with war (Lebanon, Iraq, Yugoslavia, Ireland, South Africa, India) and terrible music (not this, of course) and cocaine. Asking God to change things...is it really possible for something to happen against God's will? I'm not trying to troll. I do think misplaced nostalgia causes the very problems it claims to want to reverse,,,because shifting into reverse without looking backwards never comes out well.
@@andrewzboard I’m 62, it sounds like you are a bit older. Of course things have changed looking back 50-55 years. Just look at this group’s appearance. Well groomed and well dressed. Now they got tats on thier necks and pants falling off, lol 50 years ago people didn’t lock thier doors even in some big cities. Smaller towns never. An 8-10 year old kid could go out with a rake or snow shovel and make a few bucks, without worrying about stranger danger. Nobody brought guns to school and did school shootings. They just duked it out with fists. I still think men and women treated each other with more respect. You bring up valid points too . Being homeless 50-55 years ago was against the law. Women were brought in out of the cold . Men were given a chance and help to find a job . And the police would call around to help the guy get work and a room to rent . If he kept losing his job and living drunk in the park or woods , he would be arrested for vagrancy. And maybe that would help him get a taste of how valuable freedom is. They didn’t have the mass drug problem or divorce rate in the 50,s . 60,s , 70,s and 80,s brought it from 10-20 percent to 50 percent. I guess the free love thing hurt too many feelings.
I lived with my grandparents and uncles when I was 14, and one of my uncles was a fan of The Manhattans, he would listen it almost every day when he arrived from work... He passed away in 2021 from COVID-19, and listening to these divine tunes makes me remind me of his kindness, his honest smile and his lame dad jokes... RIP tío Eli!
My husband was a beautiful singer, he would sing this song to me we were so young and in love, he passed away last year, 43 years of marriage we loved music!
The Manhattans did a concert at Marine Base Camp Lejeune. I had the honor and privilege of being their escort for the day and interview them for the base newspaper. A truly class act, great men!
🌟 This song reminds me of my Mom and Dad. I remember seeing them dance to this song when I was a little girl. Over 35 years together, and they are still each other's shining star ⭐️✨

This was my song to my Husband who was in the Marine Corp. Loved seeing him come and absolutely hated when he had to leave. I would listen this song & cry for him everyday. I could handle it better when he was on base. But when they went out the country for maneuvers, out on ships for months, training in the jungles or wherever there were things that could eat him or was shooting at him made me inconsolable. He was there for 6 years, but to me it was like 20. They hard for being apart, but he was so worth the wait ❤💙❤

So thankful my mom had great taste in music. She used to listen to this and I got hooked. We used to skate to this song all the time when I was a kid. Classic love song. I used to play this for some of those special girls I was crushing on when I was growing up.
Shining Star ✨✨✨ heard this song on the radio when I was quite young with my mother actually. I love The Manhattans and the old R&B groups of my youth.Great sounds and vocals from a much missed simpler time and era that can’t be reproduced and compares to nothing nowadays.Nothing today compares to this music. This song truly comes straight from the heart.🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️🪩🪩🪩🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻✨✨✨
These songs bring back my childhood memories of my Daddy. My Dad would play his records every Sunday afternoon and I would sing and dance with my Dad. Although in Jamaica we had a TV programme called "Where it's At" similar to Soul Train and that's how learn to dance by watching those TV programmes on JBC.
Theres a strength in this song i sang growing up, i performed this manytimes meaning with my whole heart, Mom& Dad shining star down upon me dont you go away!! Thank Our lord for brining me this far 50 yrs later
TODAY IN MUSIC HISTORY: April 26, 1980 - 38 Years Ago Today: The Manhattans debuted at No. 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with their single, "Shining Star." This Leo Graham/Paul Richmond-penned song was the R&B vocal group's 14th chart entry and it became their 3rd and final Top 40 and Top Ten when it peaked at No. 5 on July 19, 1980 and was certified Platinum. It also earned the Manhattans a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Group. [04/26/2018]
The Manhattans höhre ich seit über 40 Jahr und immer wieder wie früher , Die beste Soul Band überhaubt , ich habe zur gar noch die Original Autokrame von The Manhattans

1978 ,returning from Miami to Kingston, my first trip in the US , Manhattans were on top , I went to the Rock Club in Meadowbrook where I grew up and lo and behold there stood Gerald Alston unbelievable moment of course we chatted briefly, great singer ❤.
This song was released in 1980, I song it in a talent show my senior year, I'm 59 years of age, I love the song, it was a different type of music then, I'm glad I grew up in that era.
This was a song my husband always sang to me, we were young & in love. He's gone now but this song brings back so many memories of our life together.
😢
This was also my husband and I song . We were also young and so in love! I too had to give him back to the Lord God 20 full moons ago .
Love it
Back when men loved women, sang love songs!! The 70s era was the BEST!!
Sorry for your loss, but you didn't lose the love. ❤
It's a real shame music like this isn't made anymore, those of us whom were lucky enough to had grown up with it had the best music that was made.
Agreed. A whole different generation.

This is when A woman was cherished and respected. Lord please bring this back to our young generation.
A woman was respected, and a man was respected, Because people respected themselves and knew that self esteem came from doing esteemable things.

Linda música, nasci em 95 porém amo as músicas mais antigas são as melhores 👏👏👏👏👏

Ooh, yeah
Honey, you are my shining star
Don't you go away, oh, baby
Wanna be right here where you are
Until my dying day, yeah, baby
So many have tried
Tried to find a love like yours and mine, yeah, baby
Girl, don't you realize how you hypnotize?
Make me love you more each time, yeah, baby
Honey, I'll never leave you lonely (yeah)
Give my love, all to you only
To you only, to you only
Honey, you are my shining star
Don't you go away, no, baby
Wanna be right here, where you are
Until my dying day, yeah, baby
Feel so good when we're lying here next to each other
Lost in love, yeah, baby
Baby when we touch, I love you so much
You're all I have with me now, yeah, baby
Honey, I'll never leave you lonely (will)
Give my love to you only
To you only, to you only
Honey, you are my shining star
Don't you go away girl, no, baby
Wanna be right here where you are
Until my dying day
Honey, you are my shining star
Don't you go away, (ooh, ooh)
Honey, you are my shining star
Don't you go away
Honey, you (are my shining star)
(Don't you go away)
Honey, you (are my shining star)
(Don't you go away)
Honey, you (are my shining star)
(Don't you go away)
Honey, you (are my shining star)
(Don't you go away)
Honey, you are my shining star
Don't you go away (ooh, ooh), oh no
Honey, I'll never leave you lonely (oh)
Give my love to you only
To you only, to you only
Honey, you (are my shining star)
Don't you go away

So thankful my mom had great taste in music. She used to listen to this and I got hooked. We used to skate to this song all the time when I was a kid. Classic love song. I used to play this for some of those special girls I was crushing on when I was growing up.
I'm 37 years old, I'm Brazilian and for me one of the best songs, I love it

Beautiful Song... 😍😍

Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can makes you feel better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello makes you smile
