Hello, I hope someone answers these comments. I have a specific question concerning TMVR. For someone who has had a mechanical valve (ring models) installed instead of their Mitral Valve due to degenerative disease from rheumatism. Their installation has a leak because the surgeon could not sew it tightly due to calcification. What I'm wondering, is it possible to remove the existing mechanical valve and replace it b the new models that do not need sewing, all this through transcatheter?
I was born with a hole in my left heart valve I had multiple heart surgeries patching it deteriorating they replaced it with a mechanical valve did a Ross procedure later on in life when I was 19 20 I had a Melody valve put into my other valve I don't exactly know why don't think it was needed I was offered it and I went with it now the melody valve is expired been 10 years about and it's leaking and they would like to go in and cut out the mess tent and preserve the valve as much as possible they said the mechanical valve I have is moderate damage nothing severe and that they would leave that alone I'm worried because I also have been treated for infections in my blood a few times in life I've also had into carditis in my blood and I worry about opening myself up for that long for them to do the procedure I worry because I risk infection after I told them that the surgeon did a double tie hook whatever to make sure the melody valve will not move you said for example you have to cut it out to get it out don't worry we have a lot of donor valves they said any input they would like to do the surgery soon or they said we could go with another stent inside the stent the stent I have in me is already a child stem so it would be even smaller than a 8 mm
I have to keep getting ulcers in my left leg feet after it getting injured it is also just colored due to a lot of backflow on the left side of my body which I believe I have staphylococcus and I don't know if that risks 9 factions higher for being open so long I believe I have a positive gram of staphylococcus
Dang, I hear your concern. Unfortunately, the mechanical heart valve cannot be removed by trans catheter means. It can only be removed by open chest surgery. However, the leak, if severe, and if considered essential to be fixed, can be fixed by surgery instead of changing the entire valve. The leak in mechanical valves is around the valve, not in the valve. Your cardiac surgical team can guide you further.
Is this possible as a redo surgery with previous open heart bioprosthetic

I am 64....was told i am too old for this procedure
I am 75 and getting a replacement by cather placement next month. I am going to a major hospital in Boston Massachusetts.
