Bette Davis looks like she wore that hat to keep the government from reading her thoughts.
+rofyle I don't know what that means but you made me laugh out loud.
+JM N
Then why didn't she wear a wig? Geez, that hat!
+rofyle I still love Bette Davis and all the great movies she made. That little hat makes her even more adorable, because her head looks like a Hershey's Kiss...smiles. That right there was 2 wonderful actors on Stage.
+epiphany difference The best thing about Bette Davis was she had Bette Davis eyes.
+rofylAll right. Now you lost me. If Kim Carnes' song is your only frame of reference for the great Bette Davis, you're better off not saying anything. Her eyes were not the best thing about her. That would be her talent, her two Oscars and ten nominatiions. All About Eve, Now Voyager, The Letter, The Little Foxes, Dark Victory, Of Human Bondage, Jezebel, etc.,etc.,etc.
I'm very grateful that Brando has won an Academy Award. May his first Oscar be a masculine Oscar.
Joseph Scaduto i see that u did there

Marlon Brando was the best actor of his generation.
Yeah, the generation that goes from 1930 til 2014!
Not only of his generation!
of any generation
Of all time more likely
Runner legend no my friend ,Brando was the best, period!
What made Marlon Brando so charismatic was the fact that he was so true to himself. An authentic person who didn't care to fit in and live by the norms of society. I believe that this made him a loner at heart.. especially when we consider the industry he was working for. It takes guts to be like that,..to stand alone and not give a crap.
That is ture. Hewas candid about his sexuality, had a wide circle of friends despite the tabos that were associated with people of certain categories, supported various causes and so on.

Vive.
Spot on! He was a stellar actor who couldn’t care less for tinsel town and the inn crowd.
I love how he runs to the stage, so perfect
it WAS! 🔥🥵🔥🥵 he was SUCH a GORGEOUS specimen!
Gracefully running to the stage and to his well-deserved award just like Hermes!
Marlon Brando was very attractive back then.
Stavros Mayakovsky before the 80s
+And I KSSKSKSKS
i don't know if there's something wrong with me but i find him attractive even in his godfather years ahah, he was gifted
@@ozgesolmaz752 yup
Hey no matter what anyone saids he never lost that amazing smile even when was older one of the best smiles ever!
It seems like the Academy Awards were a lot more fun and a lot less pretentious back then
If you were white
newjack900 ‘less’ pretentious? IMO they all sounded very pretentious with their fake & not entirely correct English accents.
@@krokodyl1927 I completely agree with you.
Of course it was.
@@krokodyl1927 It's called a Trans Atlantic accent, and it was how a lot of actors spoke at the time.
Much more spontaneous than our modern day version, everyone acting naturally ... I like how Marlon Brando ran up the stairs, then such a modest and grateful speech. Bob Hope and Bette Davis great too, refreshing.
uhhh no
Much better
Yeah, of course. That's the matter with industrializing stuff, they lose their soul.
I love that the winner and presenter, they don't HUG each other, they have strong confidence by themselves ,they are classy
The man who redefined the acting profession. The Greatest of all time.
He was no Franklin Pangborn but the late great Mr Brando was indeed one fine thespian.
Everyone Bette is wearing that cap because she shaved her hairline to play Elizabeth I. She was a dedicated actor.
well that explains A hat... but why THAT one?
the hat she wears is in line with the character she had portrayed in the movie, Queen Elizabeth I
@@4l4ddin77 lmao
What about the hairline in the back
And if I should ever win again, and send a Native American lady to accept and shine a light on something more important than self aggrandizement, please don't boo the poor gal.
Nun Ya yes, yes, yes!! Thank you. Still admire him so much for doing that.
He sent the Native American lady to DECLINE the award.
I mean he proved his point right when they booed at her. This is a cruel society.
If you watch that clip there are boos but also a lot of claps.
Nun Ya not her fault he had gone batsh*t crazy.
*There's something really magical about that time period* ✅🙂

@Abacus Listener oh yeah? Seems to me like you know a lot more about movies than me. You created your account in November, and all of your recent comments are shitposts. So shut the fuck up.
The way he run up those stairs so young full of vitality he was 31yrs old here. May God Rest His Soul. He was a great talent and humanitarian RIP Sir always and forever in our hearts.
I love him RIP. Marlon Brando. He turned the award down years later in protest at how Natives were and still are treated in the USA.
He had such magnetic appeal, never seen anyone with his charisma. Greatest actor and also the most handsome ever in Hollywood.
He is really special. REALLY
1:12 Marlon run to receive the oscar and to catch Humphrey Bogart attention
Those were the days...
Sam Rothstein yes I just noticed Humphrey :)
I enjoy seeing young, beautiful Marlon, in control of his glowing talent and still interested in the world and his career. I wish he and Bogie could have made a movie together.
lemorab1 if anything , his interest in the world went up as he aged. He fought for peoples rights. Thats pretty worldy.
Interesting to roll the reel to 1973 when he refused to accept The Godfather Oscar.....
Sam Rothstein wow that's amazing to see the two together. So different
After THREE YEARS of nominations and THREE YEARS of rejection, Brando finally got his recognition in perhaps the most deserved Oscar ever. This was 60 years ago and everybody there is dead by now but this footage still gives me chills. He was a contender for three years but in 55 he was the heavyweight champion of the world!!!
Still true!
Still baffling he didn't win before for Street Car he was above everyone that year by far
Goat comment 💯
The other nominees for that year were Humphrey Bogart for "The Caine Mutiny", Bing Crosby for "The Country Girl", James Mason for "A Star Is Born" and Dan O'Herlihy for "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe"
I immediately realized there wasn't a prelude announcing the nominees. How times have changed
Bogart should have won
@@thewkovacs316so you’ve never seen on the waterfront…
Thanks so much 🙏 💓
I know the oscars are so long now but back then they had to literally run to the stage and rush their speeches. wish i wouldve heard more from these great actors.
One of the greatest acting performances ever.Well done,Mr Brando !
"It's a wonderful moment, and I am certainly indebted. Thank you." You are truly missed...
Every time I hear Bette Davis say to him "You were just great!", I immediately think of the taxi scene and the final fight against Johnny Friendly; Marlon Brando was simply amazing in that film, and arguably one of the most influential actors of all time
+StrasbergProtégé Actually, I don't think there's any argument about it.
Lynn Turman no, probably not. But I have met someone who would mention Spencer Tracy or Laurence Olivier, or even James Stewart. I still choose to believe in Brando though
StrasbergProtégé They might be better actors but in terms of influence, acting has two eras: pre-Brando and post-Brando. That's about as influential as you can get.
Lynn Turman Definitely
Very well said and accurate as hell, but Tracy is still the master of understatement.
Marlon Brando was going to announce that he figured out the meaning of the universe...then he forgot that he was going to say it.
Back in the day where everybody had class, style, elegance, and more respect unlike today.
Also segregation but go on lol

I could listen to Marlon Brando read the phone book. He has one of the most unique speaking voices/deliveries in history. There aren’t many iconic deliveries like his nowadays.
All those who can't get their heads wrapped (literally) around Bette Davis's hat remember, 60 years from now our descendants would be looking at Lady Gaga and wondering "What in the hell was she thinking?"
Rishabh Kumar No need to wait, we're all wondering that now...
+Rishabh Kumar You really think the world will be here in 60 yrs? I wish I shared your optimism.
People like you have been predicting the end of the world for thousands of years. And they'll continue to do so for thousands more.
You're assuming a lot, if you assume anyone will give a shit about Lady Gaga 60 years from now.
Lady Gaga has always had that reaction
god it's brando
A lovely, concise, grateful and humble speech from a great man.
Such a famous voice... I love him, what a great actor. He's talented, absolutely handsome and nobody can forget such monsters of the cinema. Great man.
This was possibly the greatest oscar speach of all time
It was so natural too, unlike today's fake stars. Very refreshing to see. I preferred the ceremony back then with real actors.
In today’s Oscars speech, even the dog gets credit, SMFH! 🤣
My God, one tends to forget how absolutely gorgeous and charismatic Marlon Brandon was. Sigh, we don't have actors like him anymore.
Marg Lam Morgan Freeman😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@rosebud8175 Well, Morgan Freeman has an incredible voice. Probably one of the most iconic in film history. So, he's got that going for him.
Humble and classy... "I'm certainly indebted"... that sums it up right there
Brilliant stage actor too. That's another thing that blew Hollywood's mind. His transition from stage to screen was masterful.
What can I say? Brando is like the finest actor of his generation!
He's Like the finest actor? If you mean he "Is" the finest actor say so
I watched On The Waterfront yesterday after so long. Powerful and incredible film. Amazing acting - Brando, Saint, and others!🙏
Even Brando's acceptance speech was perfect, so full of humility, no mentioning names and no prolonging the moment. Best of all, no acting. So many acting winners seemed to feel the need to give a performance when they gave acceptance speeches but not him. He was clearly glad but seemed like he couldn't wait to get off the stage. Thanks so much for this!
I really adore Marlon Brando! He is amazing in so many ways, not just acting but also his awareness and contribution to the people with colors. HE IS AN AMAZING HUMAN BEING! I am so sad I didn't know him when I was young, and when I really got to know him, he was gone.
oh so damn handsome.
Short speech that says it all, not like todays blabla you get for every person who wins ! More proof that Brando was an actor above all.
Imagine being in a room with all these legends
Wow. I wasn't aware there were any video clips of this era in existence. This has got to be one of the greatest moments in Oscar history. This clip is from an age before they provided the list of category contenders. Here Betty Davis simply announces Marlon Brando the winner of the Best Actor category without mentioning the other actors in contention. Fascinating!
I was thinking they must have listed the contenders earlier.
Marlon Brando had wonderful acting in On the Waterfront.
you would think such a big guy would have a deeper voice.......but the way in which he speaks is gorgeous
Even the name Marlon Brando sounds powerful!
BEST ACTOR TO EVER EXIST.
Everyone here talking about the strange accessory on Bette's head ... she was filming The Virgin Queen at the time and had to shave part of her hair.
Renan Hello 👋 understandable about the hair but what about the dress👗 gown ??? 😄 July 30,2021
This is still the Brando who believes in the system due to being young and inexperienced. Later, as he learns about the dark side of this world, he develops the warrior spirit, using his position to fight for equality and fairness. I'm learning so much about how he led.
i watched a lot of those oscar winning videos from old hollywood and i noticed the speeches were so short back then .. amazing now the winner talks for what it seems like an hour
love oscar like this, the winner goes straight to the stage without hugging 50 people first
MARLON BRANDO IS THE BEST ACTOR IN THE HOLLYWOOD HISTORY !
No doubt

Marlon loving that Oscar 1:55...too funny...such a humble dude.
yeeees 😃
*feels weird that people in the 40s/50s/60s actually existed, everything feels so different*
i absolutely love brando, he is just so humble and gracious. and has so much class
A beautiful night for the young Brando. And he was very humble in his acceptance speech, which was nice. Ironically, he used this award as a doorstop to one of the rooms in his house, and then it was later stolen...
I think at 90ties one Auction House at UK had for sale that stolen statue. Marlon just send letter to them for frozen auction coz a stolen item but also said he doesn't care what Auction House has done with statue after. .
RIP Marlon Brando (April 3, 1924 - July 1, 2004), aged 80
You will be remembered as a legend.
I LOVE that speech he gave! So genuine and pleasant!
There you go, short and sweet. None of this crying, making a big fuss and then thanking half the world's population.
The best actor of all time
Marlon Brando - The Greatest Actor Who Ever Lived
you're right
ALSO the HAWTEST man just....of ALL time 🔥🥵🔥🥵🔥🥵🔥🥵🔥🥵
Brando's performance as Terry Malloy was one of the greatest. Eva Marie Saint, Karl Malden and Lee J. Cobb were also outstanding.
He is definitely in my Top 100 Greatest Actors of All Time, actually is in my Top 10. His performance is superb in On The Waterfront. His acting skills are breathtakingly emaculate and intricate. I wish he was still here. His films are some of my favourites. I will give him an A+ for his incredible work. 😊😊
This video is like a historic moment to me. Thank you so much for this Oscars-series!
just cant stop looking at him and hearing him.He downplays even his words.he's THAT great. WHY oh why didnt i meet him? love to me eternal love whereever you are .
Initially, Bette Davis was wearing a head covering because she was compelled to shave her head and alter her hairline to play the lead role as Elizabeth in The Virgin Queen. Brando was unbeatable as Terry in Kazan's On The Waterfront. Kazan, who had directed Marlon to three Oscar nominations, including this picture, had cast Sinatra in the lead, until Brando, who was equivocating, committed to the role. It was the best performance, other than Streetcar, that Brando ever gave, and it became the template for all actors during the 50s and 60s.
But she could have worn a wig as she has done many times in public if she felt like it..
Without a doubt the greatest actor to ever grace the silver screen hands down !
Nobody moved so effortlessly well as Brando did that night.
They gave me a reward I couldn't refuse.
The way he seductively strokes that trophy is beautiful.
+Pat Mcgroin it was practice for the cat-stroking in 1972
Or maybe it was due to him being bi.
Anthony D Wally Cox.
@@anthonyd8997 Richard Pryor?? LOL
He does not stroke it in 1973.
They said God Of Acting
I heard Marlon Brando💯
That is the perfect acceptance speech short and sincere and genuine.
She totally forgot to mention who was nominated.......
noora Yeah, today it's a big event for general audiences, when at the time the scale was much smaller, only for true enthusiasts who already knew all that beforehand.
noora no they still read out the names. If you watch the other awards given out that year or the years before you'll see that they do, in fact, read them. Bette simply forgot.
Just finished watching this masterpiece. Stunning performance from Brando!
His performance in Godfather was one of a lifetime. That movie is still number 1 on iMDB thanks to the performance of Brando.

He is the GOAT .
Such a great actor. I loved his early movies.
my favorite actor the greatest Marlon Brando. Thank you for unforgettable films America
Lol, Bette Davis is like a proud mom- "You were just great!"
One of the coolest things about being born and raised in Omaha NE is that it was also the home to legends like him.
Brando was the best “contender” and earned every ounce of Oscar. I was distracted by Betty Davis’ ensemble; her designer should have been dumped. She looks so much better her the look in “All About Eve.”
excuse me, but i cant take my eyes off of brando's hand moviment around the statuette..
