🤷♂️ it depends on the use case. I have them both. I’ve been flying the Avata more lately trying to see how creative I can be with it. I wish the gimbal function allowed manual gimbal limit setting (on the switch) as well as speed setting for the toggle switch that would make it easier to get some unique shots when going over or under something, for now I’m practicing manually.
I've just bought the Mini 3 Pro as I'm a keen photographer. The AVATA looks like huge fun - maybe one to add later when I've built up my piloting skills.
It's the Avata for me. But I think I will buy a camera drone like the mini too, because when you have a drone, people want to see images haha. So for fun it's the Avata, but for pictures the mini 3 clearly wins IMO.
I've had an Air 2S for a while now, and I love it, but I picked up an Avata a few weeks ago, and it's a blast. Totally different way of flying, and completely new type of footage to add to my content. I had no idea that I would enjoy fpv as much as I have.
Thanks for the review! I think it's just a matter of which drone to buy first because to be honest it's okay to have both drones. There are things the Mini 3 Pro is perfect for while there'll also be times when the Avata would be the perfect choice!
Darren that’s a difficult question. They are both absolutely fantastic drones. But I’m still sticking with the Mini 3 pro for my reasons. Another great video. Thank you
2 drones... you have to ask yourself, what is it I want to do? Do I want to experience flying like a bird, or do I want to be a videographer/photographer? So whichever it is you want to be or do, there's your answer. However, if it's fpv, you need to factor into the price of the fpv goggles (not cheap). Whereas, if it's videography/photography you're interested in, you're good to go with the mini 3 pro from the get go. Just a thought🙂 👍
Would like to try the Avata for the FPV experience but I wear glasses with a stigmatizm. Wonder if DJI has a fix tor that. I haves a Mavic 2 Pro which does very well.
The goggles 2 has built in ipd inter pupilatory distance and also magnification adjustments that should help overcome that stigmatism, but you might want to check out how much it can do.
I just decided to get the mini 3 pro. Since I live in the UK and in london I just read the CAA restrictions I cant fly the arvata like that here in london i need to travel 2hours to the countryside.
Great observation and agree on your assessment of which one is best, the spotter is a bit of an issue for me, my partner has 4 legs and answers to the name Chase, being a border collie it's hard to ask him for patience and spot for me 😉 Stick or Frisbee no problem.
I recently took the Mini 3 Pro to Iceland and was thrilled by the size and dynamic range for travel. That said, I have the older DJI FPV and am very intrigued by the AVATA partially for those new OLED goggles!
i have the dji fpv. drone and love it. so i bought a item called drone mask so i can enjoy fpv with my mavic drones .kinda best of both worlds i do enjoy your videos keep up the good work.....
For me it came down to mini 3 pro mainly because I rather better video quality. Mini 3 pro camera is more on par with a go pro 11 so if you looking for video quality and more cinematic shots the mini wins with gimbal mode on, if you want more fun flying or getting into fpv and still have pretty good video quality then the avata is the better choice
Ya the Mini 3 is the winner for all the reason mentioned more over i would need a pilot drone license were i am anything over 249g which is basically the same as a maned air craft license
Legacy drones will soon not be allowed to fly in the A2 category jan 2023 as an FYI. All legacy drones above 250g will need to be flying in the A3 category after jan 2023 :( making them less versitile just because they dont have the C rating implemented yet
I on’t like the headache of license, heavier,no safety at all and I can’t imagine to crash it all the time hahhaha my mini 3 pro did best suit to me and less hsassle and quieter also. Hyoerlapses but later on if that go on sale that can’t resist why not but so far mini 3 pro is best and suitable for most used.
I’m looking for a drone that will help me explore the trails behind my house. It will be my first Drone and I want to buy a good one. I’ve narrowed down to 2. Avata and Mini3Pro . I don’t want to spend all that money and regret getting the avata. What do you guys think?!
Being in the US I really don't care about the 250g threshold. I'd rather just pay my $5 dollars every 3 years and get an FAA number. I have the Air 2s for doing all my video and pictures and all sorts of very sweet stuff in that area. I also have the Avata and although I am having a rough time with Manual Mode for the 1st time due to the DJI Controller 2 even with a lanyard seems to slip slide around when I am doing the pinching, while with my Mini 2 and Air 2s I never had to give a flip about pinching or using the thumb. I always had a much better grip on the controller on my Air 2s. I wish I could use the size and shape of my Air 2s Controller and have the same features that are on the Controller 2. I just don't grip well and the controller does slip sliding affect and I find myself not only balancing the sticks, which I am getting good at, but having to compensate the freaking controller that doesn't just stay still creates a whole additional problem. Would explain why I crashed on one of my maneuvers because the controller adjusted and I wasn't giving it enough lift and sadly hit the pavement sending my battery flying free. (Strap fixed that issue I hope.)
As long as you stay in the US, but you will have to deal with remote ID issue. If you want to take your drone on foreign travels the Air 2s will be a bit useless as a lot of countries will only allow foreign hobbyist drone flyers to fly sub250gr drones (ex Mexico) and others sub500gr drones (ex Turkey). To fly any drone in Europe you have to register as an EASA operator (for free on some countries) and have a pilots license (except for sub250gr). Two weeks ago I took my Mini3Pro to the Dominican Republic and fly it without having to ask for authorization to the DR Aviation Authority.
Remember that the UK isn´t part of EU now and even if the UK has similar CAA rules as EASA they aren't valid within EASA. Darren explain to you the CAA rules. As far as EASA is concerned, to fly any drone with a camera within the EASA air space the operator has to have an EASA operator registry and stick it visibly on the drone body. The registry in one country is valid for all EASA countries, same with licenses. Operations of drones are mostly done in the Open Category which is divided in three subcategories A1 (over people), A2 (close to people) and A3 (far from people and buildings). Sub250gr drones can fly in subcategory A1 without any pilot license (some countries may require de A1-A3 Certificate of Competency, like my country Portugal). Non class marked drones from 250gr to 499gr can fly in subcategory A1 until January 1st 2024 and only in subcategory A3 after that date. Pilots need the A1-A3 CofC. Non class marked drones from 500gr to 1799gr can fly in the subcategory A3 and pilots need the A1-A3 CofC. Until January 1st 2024 these drones may fly in subcategory A2 if the pilot has the A2 CofC. C0 and C1 marked drones can fly in the A1 subcategory. C0 without any pilot license and C1 with the A1-A3 CofC. The Mavic3 was the first drone to get the class mark of C1. However, the C1 class marked Mavic 3 has a lot of restrictions that the regular Mavic3 doesn't have. C2 marked drones can fly in the A3 subcategory with the A1-A3 CofC and in the A2 subcategory with the A2 CofC.
I'm 1 second into the video and have paused it Darren.....Im really really hoping you are going to say the winner is the Mini 3.....unpaused.....here goes.....🙂..🏴
In may I bought the Mini 3 Pro because of it's weight below 250g. In late august I bought the Avata and finally last weekend got my Mavic 3. All these serve different purposes, but especially asking the question Mini 3 Pro or Avata, which one to chose, is just comparing apples with onions. Courses for horses. While the M3P is the best drone for everything from learning to fly to recording crisp photos and stunning cine-like video material, the main purpose of the Avata is giving you adrenalin. Much of it. It's a pure joybringer for the ones that love thrills and controlling things other people love to avoid.. From my three drones the Mavic 3 is the one, compared with the Mini 3 Pro, that has almost no advantages over the M3P for most of the pilots. If you do not need the variable Aperture, the longer flight time, the bit more of low light performance, the bit more wind stability or the tele lens, you can straight go for the M3P an be a happy person. This is my number one drone to take with me where other drones are too big, too heavy or too limited. Last week I was on vacation on a north sea island and I did some stunning footage with the Mini 3 Pro. I recorded in D-CINELIKE 4K all the way, approached a ferry and flew severeal hundred meters above and in parallel over the open sea, I did cross a 3km wide sound between two parts of the island, just to see the village on the other side, I filmed a ferry landing at port of this village, I filmed lots of land, some lighthouse, some thatched houses and lots more, and bothered no one doing so. The litte Mini 3 Pro seems to be a toy drone, nobody is afraid of it, all smile if they see it. And that's the biggest advantage of the Mini 3 Pro over all the other - bigger - drones: it's the least invasive with 90% the capabilities of even a prosumer drone. Of all 3 drones I would choose the Mini 3 Pro if I had to. Period.
I own a number of DJI drones but now I have the Avata and I love flying it! It is more fun than flying my other DJI drones! Flying the Avata is all about pure flying, especially in Manual mode, and having fun. When I am flying my Air 2S or my DJI Mini 2 is a lot more about capturing beautiful landscapes or surroundings. And what to do with my 'old' DJI FPV? Love flying it, it feels faster and has more power but it is also quite easy to crash and damage! I have been flying the Avata for three weeks now and I am now doing things, like flying real close to the ground that I wouldn't do with the DJI FPV drone or any other DJI drone! Keep up the good work!
Damn I'm in the same predicament...just sold my fpv it was way too easy to crash due to the weight. I'm looking into getting the Avata it seems like the better of the two
Very good comparisons,, Thank YOU,,,, Hard to decide so I BOUGHT THEM BOTH!!!! Kids grown, gone, wife is an X, sooooo plenty of coin now,,,What should I do??? ,,, SAVE the money for someone else after I go??? NOPE!!! SPEND IT, YEP!!!! I am SPENDING IT and loving our hobby!! 😃😁🤗
I agree with your assessment, it's horses for courses and depends what you want from a drone. My Mini 3 Pro is perfect for me right now. It does what I want from a drone the most, and allows me the flexibility of where I can fly. I'd love one day to add the Avata and complete the A2 course to give me the same flexibility, but for right now it's not what I want most in a drone.
Thanks for your valuable comparison. I don't regret getting the Mini 3 Pro even after the Avata arrived. It's more what I'm seeking in a drone. While the Avata is undoubtedly very cool, the Mini 3 pro is my "eye in the sky" I always wanted.
Having owning both they are both great, but as a filming tool and value for money the mini 3 pro wins hands down, I couldn’t believe what I spent on the Avata especially after buying the second remote as well. Yes the Avata is great but a different tool in the toolbox, it’s a real shame it is really expensive!..🤔😃💰💰💰
I've spent 2 days looking for the right first drone to get, after researching features like follow mode and better quality moving footage with higher MBPS feed and the features I chose the Avata. I will just be using to add video to my music, I don't make money on my music videos so it's not a business and no need for a license. The footage of the video on the Avata looks great for music videos and If I want a photo I can grab a still from the video footage. I think unless you are buying a drone for business in a social media/youtuber etc. I would get the Avata and you can grab images off the video footage for stills. If you are getting one for business the DJI Mini 3 pro would be the one to get.
If I was a highly paid content creator, I would use the Avata as a complement to the Mini 3 Pro.... getting footage you couldn't or wouldn't try to get with the M3P. From what I've seen, the camera on the Avata is outstanding and no real need for an Action Cam mounted on top. For a beginner drone, or as an only drone, the M3P wins.... still hoping for the Goggles to be made compatible with the M3P.
The camera on the avata is crap though. How can you use it for “paid content creation” when the Dynamic Range is crap? The Mini3Pro has way better footage and DR.
Im in the same position, i really want a good camera drone, for pictures and some footage, but i want the fpv experience too, and i cant afford both of them.... i want to fly fpv just for the inmersive experience of a nice and calm flight, the fpv gimbal setup in M3Pro + vr lenses (dronemask) might do the job, with a lot more flight time than avata... what do you think about this case scenario??? I believe that M3Pro is the one isnt it??
@@hellopsp180 i dont want the feeling of a real fpv drone, the mini3 pro doesnt have manual mode so im looking only for the inmersive flight experience without the acrobatics. A nice and extended flight is all i need/want, over the trees or the mountains... m3pro will do the trick.
I actually bought the mini 3 pro because I watched your first video on it before you had your nd filters and am so glad I did. Phenomenal drone but as you said and I know from doing active track around trees(dumb) that a broken front arm later it's definately not as durable. Anyone looking thou, should if they can, and take your advice and get both as I did also just get my Avata (solo drone as I had v2s and motion controller from fpv drone) a week ago and wow, it's soooo much better than the fpv from dji but it should be it is literally their second shot at fpv. 2 great drones to fill whichever gap you have that day for sure. Keep up the great content I enjoy your videos greatly.
I haven't got he Avata FPV but based on what I've seen I agree that the mini 3 Pro is the one if we had to choose. I've had the three minis and have the Air 2 and the pro is the best all round drone ever. I'd maybe try fpv one day who knows..
Both! Totally different experience in both video and flying. I use the mini 3 for cinematic and hyperlapse and the Avata for swoops and chases. I fly the mini 3 pro way more often though. Remote ID SUCKS on the Avata - don’t forget your phone cable before you travel to fly that thing.
I’ve got the mini 2 and of course I’d love the extra quality of video that the mini 3 would bring, but if I was to get either one it’d be the Avatar purely for the fun factor. I already do a bit of fpv flying, both wing and drone, but I’m not that good with the drones and only just get by, wish I had the time to get better. But fo me the Avata has easy stabilised modes for easy flying and still has the ability to Fido flips and rolls without the worry of breaking it so easily.
Any idea how much weight the Avata can lift? I have a Mini 3 Pro stuck on a roof and want to see if I can use my Avata to rescue it off the roof 😃. Love your videos. Great stuff.
A tricky comparison! I’m lucky in that I have the air2s and Avata but you can guess which one is more dusty! Avata is actually exciting before you fly. Just setting it up is exciting and the quality of footage is superb.
The Avata is just a camera drone with FPV goggles. Most high-end camera drones have way better cameras and thus way better footage than the Avata. It's not even close.
I get why the Avata is tempting for a beginner drone! For one, it's probably DJI's safest drone to fly and also when you're more confident flying you can move up to a mode advanced mode without switching drones.
I agree that the Avata isn't for everyone, it wasn't for me. I quickly found that wearing the goggles are a deal breaker. I like to know who and what's going on around me. I gave it a try but it's on the way back to DJI. I'll stick with the GPS drones lol.
No offence , I usually like your content but this video is as if your advertising for DJI . Can you do a video making people aware that only Canadian and North American drones . Yes avata has manual /acro mode but the controller that is packaged with it only works in assisted modes and NOT for annual so no freestyle with controller in box . I think that dji had lots of claims from dji refresh with the original Fpv so they don’t get as many claims as you need another controller for Avata .
Sorry, but there isn't any comparison to be made. They are completely different drones, for different uses. I own both. Both brilliant at what they were designed to do.
Great video great help However I have a question about the A2 certificate Is it a one time thing or do you have to do it every year or 2 how does it work
I agree with you, but decided to go with the Avata for my first real drone experience because I wanted the FPV aspect of flying. I was heavily looking at purchasing the Mini 3 Pro until I started really looking at the FPV and Avata video's.
@@jonathan9130 Yes, it will be my first drone. I ordered the Avata and it was delayed for out of stock reasons. Should be arriving next week. I already have my hard case, ND filters, Fly More Kit, Another Extra Battery, and some charging cables/components & landing pad from Drone Valley on UA-cam. I'm just waiting for my Avata and extra Goggles 2 battery to come in!
You probably made the right choice for your first drone if you were considering a camera drone and wanted FPV. It's not the best of both worlds in my opinion, in my opinion it's mediocre at both things. But it does fall in the middle. Having said that. If someone already has a camera drone and FPV quads they should just stick with them. As far as Avata footage and videos. It looks like camera drone footage to me. 99% of the shots can be done with the camera drone which have better cameras and longer flight time too, everything else can be done with the freestyle quads and they're easier to fix.
I bought the DJI Avata and the Mini 3. You are correct. Both are very different. I would say if you are looking for photography and video for special occasions, the DJI Mini 3 is best suited for capturing pictures and video. The Avata is only for experiencing what it would be like to fly. You could take pictures and video but the ability to position and orient a photo or video will be difficult with the Avata. The other important point is the flight time. The DJI Avata will get you 15 minutes while the Mini 3 can get you 30 minutes of flight time.
I got a Mini 3 Pro 10 days ago. Companion to my Mini 2, but the MP3 is a big step up. I am having a blast with it and decided to get it after seeing your reviews and test flights. Cheers from Wisconsin, Darren.
I was interested in this comparisson. It seems you read my mind. I'll bet tons of people have the same question! Thanks for the video, Darren. Great stuff. For ME, the Mini 3 Pro is much more useful. I would love to have the DJI goggles (and that was something I loved about when I tested the Mini with the Litchi app, where I had goggles mode with my 20e goggles that I put my phone in, so I would probably love flying the Avata, but as you said, it is just for the fun of it. It is like a videogame but in real life. However, it would be an expensive toy solely for that purpose, so for now, I'll stick to the Mini series.
So what about the drone mask to the new and improved one that you can change the settings on it as well by not even taking the phone out of the drone mask. I mean for the mini three pro obviously
I want a foldable, quiet drone, weighing less than 250g with an acceptable flight time, and the DJI Mini 3 Pro seems to fit the bill, but I want the FPV experience, that is with goggles, but that route is not available with the Mini 3 Pro. However with a mobile telephone in the (new version of) the DroneMask there are reports that this is a good and viable option, whereas others say that the lag/latency is too long. Any experience / practical input ? Thank you !
One is FPV , other camera drone . Totally different things . You can’t compare as they’re totally different . Unless you can only use DJI drones , There are much better Fpv drones than the avata . The new goggles also have half the range of the original goggles
I just wanted to ask if you had any experience with their customer service? I tried calling their listed phone number but I just get a busy signal and call drops after 2 seconds. Also tried their online chat options and after entering all my info with my question it replies with my chat session has ended after which it asks me to fill out a survey.
Darren how do we stand with our councils on taking off on there land. They don’t own the air space, but their next trick is permission to take off on their land. Hope your well, long time no see Darren ❤
I want my first drone to be a mini 3 but I'll never afford one . I've been striving to get a mini 2 as my first drone. but every time I get close to purchasing one something comes up and get set back. some day I'll own a mini dji.
Which would you pick? DJI Mini 3 Pro or DJI AVATA ?
Tough choice! Both are brilliant
Mini 3
Def. Mini 3 pro!
as of now the avata is more expensive the dji fpv drone. i would just go dji fpv if you want fpv. its cheaper
🤷♂️ it depends on the use case. I have them both. I’ve been flying the Avata more lately trying to see how creative I can be with it. Nice one mate hope all is good
DJI gave us so much with the mini 3 pro, I don't use my others drones at all anymore.
Yep they packed so much inside of this drone didn’t they !

Hi Darren, I have much more fun flying the avata, but the mini 3 pro gives me much more usefulness!!
Best of both words hey
Thank you, sir. You saved me some money. I'm going to go with the Mini3 pro and wait for the Avata 2. Hopefully they can improve on the camera.
Already have the Mini 3 Pro and it is great........really hard to justify the Avata but I want it 🤣

I just decided to get the mini 3 pro. Since I live in the UK and in london I just read the CAA restrictions I cant fly the arvata like that here in london i need to travel 2hours to the countryside.
A bit like comparing a car with a motorbike , both forms of transport but very different experience , you NEED both. !
Hell yes
I would love for me to be able to use the 3 pro RC remote with my Mini 2. I just received my DJI AVATA today. I can't wait to use it.
Great observation and agree on your assessment of which one is best, the spotter is a bit of an issue for me, my partner has 4 legs and answers to the name Chase, being a border collie it's hard to ask him for patience and spot for me 😉 Stick or Frisbee no problem.
I’m sure he’s got great eyesight
I went for Mini as I think is better tool for creators, maybe there will be time that will be able to aford have Avata for fun.
I recently took the Mini 3 Pro to Iceland and was thrilled by the size and dynamic range for travel. That said, I have the older DJI FPV and am very intrigued by the AVATA partially for those new OLED goggles!
Would be a good combo !

After watching this, i still can’t decide 😂 i want both
Haha I know right
I own a Mini 2
What would make more sense, getting an Avata or upgrading to the 3 pro?

Great episode as per usual. Mini 3 for me 👍🏻 love it
Thank you , good choice

I have both, but love my Mini 3 Pro more.

Avata would be good but you can’t get the FOV controller for love for money
The Dji fpv combines most of the specs that mini 3 pro and Avata has and many more.
Mini3Pro ..best model ..

Would be a good upgrade

C0 and C1 marked drones can fly in the A1 subcategory. C0 without any pilot license and C1 with the A1-A3 CofC. The Mavic3 was the first drone to get the class mark of C1. However, the C1 class marked Mavic 3 has a lot of restrictions that the regular Mavic3 doesn't have.
C2 marked drones can fly in the A3 subcategory with the A1-A3 CofC and in the A2 subcategory with the A2 CofC.
Avata
If you want raw photos.... the avata will leave you out in the cold as it only does jpg. That is a deal breaker for me.
Bit of an unnecessary comparison as the drones couldn't be more different for use in certain situations.
🤔🤔🤔Mini 3 Pro😁👍
🤝😎
Recommend to everyone to get both... lol
I'm 1 second into the video and have paused it Darren.....Im really really hoping you are going to say the winner is the Mini 3.....unpaused.....here goes.....🙂..🏴
Dji mini 3 ❤for me. AVATA is too loud.
Indeed! I find the same, the dji drones are all for landscapes, but the Avata seems so much fun! Really looking at getting one…
Kids grown, gone, wife is an X,
sooooo plenty of coin now,,,What should I do??? ,,, SAVE the money for someone else after I go??? NOPE!!! SPEND IT, YEP!!!! I am SPENDING IT and loving our hobby!! 😃😁🤗
Haha exactly ! Good choice Mike !
Both
I agree with your assessment, it's horses for courses and depends what you want from a drone. My Mini 3 Pro is perfect for me right now. It does what I want from a drone the most, and allows me the flexibility of where I can fly. I'd love one day to add the Avata and complete the A2 course to give me the same flexibility, but for right now it's not what I want most in a drone.
I bought Mini 3 pro in May, and Im ordering Avarta now. I wanna combine both and I wanna have the feeling of FPV.
It will never be the same as a dedicated FPV drone in terms of flight characteristics but everything else is decent
Thank you Rich I’m glad you agree, it’s a great set up !
"You don't want to buy a drone to put it on your shelf and look at it"
*Has two drones sitting behind him just for aesthetic purposes
😂😂
Did you get it down? o_o im praying for no rain in your area!!
@@AmperahGaming not yet and I am in Florida and the recent hurricane Ian may have killed it already but I just want to retrieve it.
lol
A tricky comparison! I’m lucky in that I have the air2s and Avata but you can guess which one is more dusty! Avata is actually exciting before you fly. Just setting it up is exciting and the quality of footage is superb.
Yeah I agree the video quality is much better than the original dji fpv
The Avata is just a camera drone with FPV goggles.
Most high-end camera drones have way better cameras and thus way better footage than the Avata. It's not even close.
@@DMProductions Still not as good as a camera drone.
bravo, oustanding masterpiece, see u around,🤠
Thank you 🙏
I get why the Avata is tempting for a beginner drone!
The Mini 3 Pro is such an awesome all-rounder, but the Avata as an entry-level FPV would be a blast too 😉👌
Good video Darren. I think the Mini 3 Pro is best to start with and then get the Avata for some fun later.
I agree 😊
I will buy mini3pro
I’d take the Avata since I’m new to FPV
The link for the Avata drone leads to the mini 3Pro. Also, you didn’t mention the vast difference in flight times.
I will buy avata. Fuck hyperlapse and other gimmicks.
thanks its a fair comparision
Been looking forward to this
Sorry, but there isn't any comparison to be made. They are completely different drones, for different uses. I own both. Both brilliant at what they were designed to do.
My two favs
Great video great help
However I have a question about the A2 certificate
Is it a one time thing or do you have to do it every year or 2 how does it work
Lasts for 5yrs 😊
I bought the Mini 3 Pro.
FYI DJI tech support is terrible, the help line is useless
Is the Avata top bundle known as the Baller eddition
You bet ! 😂
Everyone Should Buy a DJI Mini 3 Pro and DJI Avata and life will get better.
Haha 😛
I agree with you, but decided to go with the Avata for my first real drone experience because I wanted the FPV aspect of flying. I was heavily looking at purchasing the Mini 3 Pro until I started really looking at the FPV and Avata video's.
Was this your first drone? I am deciding between the 2 as my first drone
Apples and Oranges.
Mini3 for me.
Awesome George I hope the recommendation was good
@@DMProductions It was a great recommendation and I love the RC controller.
Cheers Darren, appreciate you bud. :)
Thanks Eddie 🤜
Both
And this was exactly what I was looking for!
Thank you !
Yes I enjoyed your comparison, so I own a mini 3 pro, I love it and surely I am biased 😂
Excellent video very good
Thanks
One is FPV , other camera drone .
Totally different things . You can’t compare as they’re totally different .
Unless you can only use DJI drones ,
There are much better Fpv drones than the avata .
Thanks for the video…it gave me an idea to choose.
