    This tunnel does nothing to refill the lake -- it's a giant drain underneath the lake to enable its total demise.

    That tunnel won't do a bit of good in 20 years time when Lake Mead is nothing but dry salt flats.
    Colorado and Utah are going through a building boom right now, and in 15 years the new development in Colorado and Utah alone will be using 100% of the water in the Colorado river, leaving almost nothing left downstream. That is why 20 years from now Lake Mead will be a dry dust bowl.

    This may sound like a stupid question but couldn't an intake pipe be ran deeper into the bottom of the lake and pumped out? I don't understand why the water has to be drained downward from the bottom of Lake Mead.

      This video and what they are doing was not well explained at all. So they are drilling this long, three mile tunnel and are going to suck a bunch of water out of the lake to fill it? I guess the lake will drop another 50 feet. The only thing this accomplishes is the water in that tunnel will not evaporate as fast as it does out of the lake.
      Another option could be to use evaporation balls to prevent evaporation from the lake. Just use them in the tributary areas and some coves, perhaps, so recreation on the lake could continue. It would take billions of them, but they are very effective in preventing evaporation.
      Also, Las Vegas needs to apply stricter water restrictions. People grow gardens and have lawns on their property, and they are in the middle of a frikin desert, consuming vast amounts of water! What the hell? Stop that crap, and stop any future home building. If you want a lawn and a garden, move to somewhere where it actually rains enough!

    • @guntherultraboltnovacrunch5248
      @guntherultraboltnovacrunch5248 8 років тому +2

      @106836059222696754980 no, they are drilling a hole in the lowest part of the lake (and a tunnel) to drain it, as the canals leading off of the lake currently are above the waterline, making them useless (dry) without pumps.

    Build high pressure pipes and fast moving water pumps in a nationwide water switching network, to redirect damaging flood waters from areas of the country that are flooding into areas of the country that have drought, such as the May 2019 Arkansa /Mississippi floods, to reach Lake Mead and other drought areas. Thus instead of building levees that have to be maintained and always fail, as is being presently done, build large pipes and high pressure pumping stations.

    that tunnel is why the lake is so low they dropped the water level so there was less pressure on top of the tunnel that way they don't risk so many cave-ins and in the event that the tunnel water has to be used Las Vegas will be the last ones to get cut off remember Vegas and Clark County Nevada itself only takes up but 1/92nd of a share of the lake water.

    You news reporters are so thorough. I just love how you explained how that is going to help anything. What I heard and replayed again to make sure I hadn't missed it, makes absolutely no logical sense whatsoever.. According to this video, they are going to pull the plug on Lake Mead and send it down a 3 mile tunnel that leads back to Lake Mead. Now, they also lose the water that was used to come down to the tunnel and travel back to the lake. What a waste of the taxpayers money. If that's the whole story, somebody needs to have their head examined.

    Isaiah 53:5, But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes, we are healed.For salvation, people just need to follow the way they did it in Acts? They were baptized in the water and of the spirit. Here's why! The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If we are to follow him, we must do the same thing. Death= repentance, Burial = baptism, and resurrection = being filled with the Holy Ghost and rising again from the dead. That's what Acts 2:38 is.We must obey the gospel, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ... Matthew 7:21-23, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in Heaven. St John 3:3-5, EXCEPT a man be born of WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT, he cannot enter into the kingdom of GOD.We can't come up with our own gospel. Galatians 1:8-9, But though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Don't be cursed. One way for all people. Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritan. Our salvation has to match-up with the scriptures and no scriptures on the subject can be taken away.Eternity is TOOO long to be WRONG! st, John 5:39, Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.God told Noah exactly how to be saved, how he must build the ark. Noah didn't come up with his own plan like people are doing today. A sinner's prayer, you just have to believe, etc which is not in the bible.The gospels show what Christ has done on the cross for us. The book of Acts shows us the beginning of Christ's Church and how to enter the Church, obeying Acts 2:38. The letters were written to the Church to show us how to behave now that we are born again into the Church.It's better to walk alone than to walk with a crowd going in the wrong direction. Are we supposed to follow the teachings of the apostles? Acts 2:42, They continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrines. Ephesians 2:20, We are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. Jesus Christ truly loves you. Do you truly love him? If you believe in this message, help spread it in the name of Jesus Christ. God bless you.

    If global warming and desertification are fake news then this is unnecessary. The lake will refill in its own good time. If, on the other hand, this is not a drought but a reflection of global warming then once all the water is gone, it is gone. This tunnel buys time but it doesn't fix the underlying problem. You either adjust your water consumption to fit the water available now or it will happen anyway later.

    You move the water from here to there and think that is the answer. You still have too little water that you spent a fortune moving to a new place. You need much more water to wet the desert and its people. The ocean is the only choice such an amount of water exists. Better get moving or praying for continuing ongoing heavy rain.

    That should build desalination plant there and build a pipeline to the ocean. Simple

      According to scientificamerica.com it costs $1 to over $2 to produce one cubic meter, (264 gallons) of desalted water from the ocean. It costs 10 to 20 cents for the same amount of water from rivers or aquifers. 264 gallons of water would be enough for two people in one day. It is higher but very doable. If people want to live in deserts they should be willing to pay this amount, if not move.

    Ok. You have got to get rid of those ancient hydro turbines. Most of your energies are being lost in accelerated mass. Redo do your science and you can decrease your hydro power water load to one sixth its present rate. How? Just ask me I'll be happy to explain. In detail.

    we can build oil pipelines all over the world why not a water pipeline, from missouri river to coloradoo river or columbia river to lake mead, we can solve 2 problems keep the ocean from rising from the billions of gallons of good water that drains to the oceans,, the other with the water diverted to lake mead we can grow more food and give life back to the people all over the world, or how about the great lakes build a pipeline,

    What amazes me, people can see this kind of thing happening, and still not believe in global warming, or climate change as they say now.

    • @bigredc222
      @bigredc222 8 років тому

      I'm not a scientist I don't know how to read the data, maybe they are right maybe they are wrong, but if we do everything the tree huggers want us to do, and it turns out the planet getting warmer had nothing to do with CO2 or any of the the other stuff they say is bad, what's it going to hurt, some shareholders of some corporations don't make as big a profit because they had to spend extra money to do things cleaner.
      If we don't do anything, and it turns out we could have helped slow the warming down, we're screwed.
      Better safe than sorry.
