i always love how thoroughly you explain your thought process; it's the main reason I like your mtg content over other channels. Even if that does mean you always end up roping your opponent. 😂
came here to post the exact same thing! I learn a lot from these videos and appreciate the time CGB takes to explain the 'why' of his plays and what to consider during a game
Wow, you learn something every day. Here I was playing Spell Pierce *only* when the opponent couldn't pay the mana because I didn't realize you could throw another counterspell on there if they paid it. Thanks for the lesson, CGB!
I always liked your video´s, they are so informative and you explain your thought process so well, it makes me thing more about my games and the options within them. Thanks a lot, keep up the great work!
I am not sure about Niv mizzet even in the sideboard as outside of the nexus and mono blue(not that mono blue is very common anymore) matchup as he is very expensive and usually gets removed when you play him(usually to slow against red or azorius aggro also) Ral izzet viceroy which is the obvious alternative is better in creature matchups but he is vunerable to desparks and vraska's contempts which people will board in to deal with your creatures. The guy who played it in the MPL ran 2x charging monstrasaur which it pretty good against any decks with little removal or can force mono red opponents to deal with it quickly. I would also definitely include at least 1x maybe 2x narsets in the sideboard for the mirror matchup and against nexus as well as 1-2 saheelis(just to generate blockers and it can copy a crackling drake or phoenix also for some more pressure as well as being a great blocker generator against selesyna tokens and azorius aggro oh and maybe an additional beacon bolt in the sideboard to deal with creatures like Lyra and Skarrigan hellkite. Overall it can hold its own against most matchups bar maybe esper control which I would give a definite edge especially after sideboarding(desparks, obnixilis' cruelty, vraska's contempt, cry of the carnarium, sometimes even unmoored egos or ixalan's binding etc.).
@@Rodspulloff I think it matters alot against mono red eating a lightning strike and a shock is better than a chainwhirler ETB and a lightning strike or two shocks. Also only one red in the mana cost makes it easier to fix for and it is not flying so 5 mana vivien cannot destroy it(again quite niche) and it cannot be one hit by lava coil if put into the battlefield with haste. So despite you losing evasion and the activation ability I would give it the edge especially if you know you are playing in a mono red heavy metagame(as the MPL is right now).
I've been playing Phoenix for a while and absolutely hate Augur of Bolas in the deck: I've lost count on the Phoenixes , goblins and Drakes that went to the bottom of the library. While its not apparent, its just bad in the deck, sub them for 1 x Lightning Strike and... Saheeli. Saheeli can serve several purposes: stall vs.wide boards, extra damage via the -2 on drakes or even phoenix (useful to get extra flying damage on some planeswalkers as well ) and vs. slower decks, pressure via the marauding grunts :) Don't be bothered about 1-2's of, the deck has a lot of cheap draw . Personally, I've also had great stuff coming from 1 Kefnet. The extra spells in mid to late game are fantastic. The deck has more depth than it seems.
He is a handy out when you need to hit removal or card draw/finale and because he has three toughness and the curent meta is filled with 2/2 and 2/1 he can block them easily(really important against cards like ghitu lavarunner) although I agree he gets worse as the game progresses so 3x is probably too many copies in deck first game also I agree with you on saheeli and Kefnet although I feel 1 is the perfect number is often he just keeps getting removed while you don't have enough cards in your hand to draw additional cards.
CGB tried the deck as I had most of the cards. May be just my luck but on the majority of the games I played mana flood was the biggest issue. A bit odd too with the build just running 21 lands. 🦑 🐉
When I use decks with only 1 or 2 it is because I want a variety and just having fun. like having 1 of each planeswalker and the poor opponent never knows which one is coming.
I don't like Augur in this deck. I know it's something that jumps in front of early aggro and gives you some card selection, but to me, it ought to read "put all your wincons on the bottom of your library." edit: and I see I wasn't the only viewer to make this comment
I just went 15 and 4 with my Planeswalker Singleton deck and it was SO MUCH FUN!! I'd love to submit it to CGB for his perusal, but I have no idea how to do that...anyone help me out?
I've recently gone on to play modern paper magic, and the deck of choice was... Izzet phoenix. It's interesting how degenerate the deck is in modern. I just love throwing cantrip spells around to recur and activate creatures.
I could build this deck in paper but I still haven't dared taking it to a tournament or such. I feel there are sooo many things at the moment that can shut down the deck. But, then again, spell pierce is the best spell ever and it can save us. Right? 😂

saw that monstrosaurus deck... why that instead of skarrgan hellkite? is that extra point that important?

Yea, ii dont understand the point of Augur here

Loved this deck, got out of magic before the newest set came out

what song do you use for your intro?
I see a lot of Phoenix decks running Saheeli. What do you think about her in this deck?

I played with this deck for a while but I got shut down so often by cry of the carnarium or narset
