It’s funny because a lot of these oddities exist because otherwise it wouldn’t be fun. Imagine how annoying it’d be to have to relight torches, or if you couldn’t jump up a block, or if you could get thrown out of minecarts.
To be fair, I feel like falling onto the dirt ground would hurt less than falling into a metal cauldron and breaking all your bones. Maybe it should negate damage from a short fall, but a long fall would turn your legs inside out.
The sculker one is because of how a zombie would move vs a human. In media, zombies take slow, heavy steps, while people walk with much lighter steps. So it would make sense that a zombie stomping around would be louder than a player strolling casually.
10:52 the crafting recipe also scams you out of half the stairs. There are 6 blocks to craft stairs, the stairs are 3/4 the block, there should be the original 6 from the blocks, and an additional 2 from the 1/4 miising from the corner. They only make 4.
I also just realized, if they made the recipe in a 2x2 grid like: W X W W It would fix both problems. They would create 4 stairs, and there would be 2 steps. THERE SHALL BE NO SCAMMING TODAY!!!!!

the dispenser thing probably mostly has to do with the fact that dispensers predate crossbows by like...a lot, and changing the recipe would be bad because it's been like that since the block was added and it's not broken so it doesn't need to be fixed

To be fair, I feel like falling onto the dirt ground would hurt less than falling into a metal cauldron and breaking all your bones. Maybe it should negate damage from a short fall, but a long fall would turn your legs inside out.

The sculker one is because of how a zombie would move vs a human. In media, zombies take slow, heavy steps, while people walk with much lighter steps. So it would make sense that a zombie stomping around would be louder than a player strolling casually.
10:52 the crafting recipe also scams you out of half the stairs. There are 6 blocks to craft stairs, the stairs are 3/4 the block, there should be the original 6 from the blocks, and an additional 2 from the 1/4 miising from the corner. They only make 4.
I also just realized, if they made the recipe in a 2x2 grid like:

It would fix both problems. They would create 4 stairs, and there would be 2 steps. THERE SHALL BE NO SCAMMING TODAY!!!!!

The one thing that always got me was if you craft lets say a helmet, chestplate, leggings or boots with iron that’s essentially and obviously using ingots, (5 for helm, 8 for chest, 7 for leggings and 4 for boots) but the one thing that doesn’t make any sense is if you smelt either one of the armor pieces you get 1 iron nugget
Dispensers existed long, long before crossbows. Changing the recipe to be much more expensive would have upset a lot of people.
not gonna lie, I just took the crafting recipe for stairs for granted, and now I can't unsee it... also my favorite is an oldie but a goodie. campfires burn you, but the stonecutter, with a saw blade strong enough to cut stone, does absolutely nothing to you
Fun fact: the iron helmet recipe flipped upside-down can fit only one player yet add Three iron ingots and it will become a cheatplate yet remove Five iron ingots, make a bucket and suddenly you have an infinite source of water

the dispenser thing probably mostly has to do with the fact that dispensers predate crossbows by like...a lot, and changing the recipe would be bad because it's been like that since the block was added and it's not broken so it doesn't need to be fixed
