Scotty Kilmer thank you very much for the kindness in featuring my video on your channel! I would watch your very informative videos regardless if you did or not. 👍🏻🚐☕️🖖🏻
Home away from home.
Hay,@@RollingEarthShipEarthShip guy! Nice to see you here.
Thanks for this video, Scotty!
Driving a self-modified van HOME across the country is PRICELESS.
LongTimeTTFan it’s better than trying to drive a house. 😂👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
agree. This guy is living the dream and "has everything he needs".
Back in 1986, I met an industrious person who worked two full-time jobs (a graveyard shift at a warehouse and then a day shift at a factory) so he decided to live in a van instead of his apartment that he only slept in. He showered and ate at work as well as a gym he had a membership in. It worked out for him and he saved a lot of money working 16-hour days with no bills apart from gasoline and food. His van was fitted out like an RV with a bed over storage bins and a wardrobe for clothes. Very minimalist. He spent his weekends partying at friends' places, going to the beach or camping trips.
And then he was able to save and buy a house for the time he will have a family... 😁
He's got one of those kind faces that you just trust immediately.
I had a neighbor looked like this guy. he was a good guy.
I have a map unsolved murders marked with red pins. Where were those places he's been to? Edit. I have watched his channel and he seems like a great guy and very fun to watch.
I follow his channel, he is a nice, genuine guy.
I agree.
thzzzt you don’t know me but thank you very much for the kind words! 👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
THE NEW MIDDLE CLASS
more truthful than some realize.
For God so loved the world that He gave his only son, that whosoever believes on him should not perish, but have everlasting life...God loved us first, would you show your love to him. Repent and be converted. Now is the time for salvation, tomorrow may be too late
As much as I love this sorta thing. You’re right. And I’m devastated
Yep. Just bought one I'm getting it set up. I cannot afford an apt
As a married man with kid, I TOTALLY get it. No justification necessary 👍🏽
Leveraged 👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
In the same boat and I agree.
I'm a former Van Guy lol. I've owned 6 vans. 3 Fords 2 Dodges and 1 Chevy Express. The Chevy was the best one out of all of them 👍
I wonder why Ford, who makes an excellent pick-up, can't seem to make a decent cargo van?
@@jasonjames4254 Are you talking about the Econoline? I've seen them with 400k... Seem to be just as good as the older Dodge and Chevy vans.
🤔🤔🤔🤔Hhhhmmmm note to self, getting a Chevy van is at the top of the list.
Jason James The best van ever made is the ford transit. It’s a lot more modern and and more powerful that the express van.
-ThreePointSlow-..... yeah a econoline with a 7.3 diesel that Ford never made
Scotty, thank you very much for your kindness in allowing my video to post on your channel!
I’ve been on UA-cam for almost 5 years and it’s the first time I’ve made a video for someone else’s channel. I found your channel a while ago and never thought of makings a video, but a couple weeks ago I said, why not?!
Didn’t expect you to use my video but pleasantly surprised you did.
Thank you very much!👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
you did a good job

Great van. How many miles did you have on it?
I honestly think 2003-2019 Express vans are some of the best made. Reliable durable and practical. Rev up your 4.3, 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 Vortecs.
5.3 are great engines.
Flash Filibuster I wonder what kind of air filters does it take it looks like it would be a cone filter inside
Dont forget the 8.1
I have a '10 Suburban with a 5.3 and those are reliable engines. 150k miles.
Compared to what, a 1940 Soviet car?
God bless you Louis. You've done a wonderful job on your van,
It's beautiful!
conrad b thank you very much! 👍🏻👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
@@RollingEarthShip Louis: Your Chevy van is fantastic. Traveling this way makes for a very meaningful and adventurous life. Stay safe and have loads of fun 🤗👍

So glad you shared this video with all of us. As you probably already know there is a huge following on vans/ van life in general .
Would you please seriously consider doing a video on your thoughts on vans in general, with focus on the reliability of chevy express and Sprinter vans ( including the gas version they came out with this year) based on your experience with Mercedes engines and transmissions.
00301200 thank you very much! 👍🏻👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
Well, if I had to live in a Van down by the river, this would be that Van!
lmao and gave inspirational talks.
well la di frickin da
@@mattb7845 LOL
Yep that too, but this is a good incognito van. First glance it looks like commercial work van. Good for parking all around a city or most parking lots over night without too much trouble or attention.
Popperz and Weird S*x I don’t always stay by the river, but when I do I always use my home on wheels. 😂👍🏻🚐☕️
I can tell you personally. I own a 1995 Chevy G20 with 294k miles on it. I have travelled the United States of America since 2011.. Have been in 38 states. As a mobile mechanic. What an experience.
👍🏻🚐
You, sir, are an inspiration to many of us who have that desire and dream to just do it! Keep enjoying what this great country has to offer!
Ralph Sanchico thank you very much!👍🏻🖖🏻☕️🌵🖖🏻
I drive one for work about 1000 miles a week. This baby isn’t mine but the companies. And those before me neglected the hell out of it. Oil changes were an inconvenience; you know how bad service trucks are abused. But she’s still running and about to turn over 200k before the end of the month. I think I’ll give her a bath to celebrate.
How does it do in ice and snow with rear wheel drive only?
This is a very cool and unique build.! Great to see people still enjoy modifying their vehicles it's a great hobby and IMO something EVERYBODY should try.!
It's a hard row to hoe for someone who grew up without ever DOING anything. Can't blame them, their parents had to make everything as easy as possible for them. People from my era HAD to fix their own cars, build stuff they needed and couldn't afford. Many now couldn't change a tire by themselves. And again, NOT THEIR FAULT.
I got a 2014 chevy Express cargo with the 6.0 engine, 6 speed. Nothing beats the chevy Express.
Elios Electric 👍🏻👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
Reminds me of living in my '72 ford van in the vegas desert for 8 months. Good time when it wasn't too hot or cold.
He hit the nail on the head... sitting down vs. standing. No comparison. He is very honest and correct.
Garrett Stevensen indeed it’s the truth. I got mine for specific reasons but next build will be a high top. 👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
This was by far my favorite, This man made that van something special.
royaloreca thank you very much! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️🚐🖖🏻
16,000 people in L.A. now live in cars, vans and RVs
.......yeah and some by choice......
@@greenbus9 vast majority through nessesity.
@@greenbus9 Not really by choice although they might say that. Rents are too crazy high. $2400 a month for an apartment, or hotel. First, last, deposit, credit check, background check, utilities, water, trash...😣
Making $11 an hour.
The sad thing is police harass and ticket.
Rabo Karabekian or they’re just plain moving out! The 2019 mass exodus from California. Aaaaa lot of victims from the recent earthquakes will most likely do the same. Many lost it all. They were the elderly all they worked for all their lives is now gone.
I. M. But isn’t there a law protecting the “homeless” “transient” that passes this year! Some politician of San Francisco. As long as u follow the parking sign rules. There are apps to help you find parking spots that allow parking at certain times/days of the week. Go to a park during the day no problem.

Expedite Travels you’re way too kind Duncan! 😎👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
I thought about a stand-up van myself, but I like my low-top van because it can go anywhere I want it to .. in parking garages, through drive-thru, down country roads with low clearance bridges ... it's just much more care free knowing I can go anywhere a car can go. (and it fits inside my own household garage too !!)
🖖🏻🚐👍🏻
Scotty and this dude obviously love America. Good to see Patriots still on UA-cam .
LoggiesHouse yes indeed! 🇺🇸👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
Great conversion. Stealth ability. I have a stealth van. I can stop where I like but I dont live in it full time.

@@actualfactual8737 you need to be very careful with your libellous insinuations. I would suggest you remove this comment.
My Chevy venture took me to all those places also in winter of 2018-19 and I’m pushing 250,000 miles, I really did enjoy being alone for that time
Scotty, can you make a video on most reliable cargo vans?
He is awesome. I have been following him for 5 years or more. Great van
Charlie Hubley thank you very much! 👍🏻👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
Love my Express van, 2008 with 410k miles on a 6.0 Vortec and 4L80e transmission.
LordCoolnessocity I have a weird question did u ever have to rebuild or replace your transmission? I had to with my last truck it was a 99 Silverado with the 5.3 vortec and a 4L60e transmission
@@jacobsearcy9856
My neighbor has a 2015 Chevy Silverado he had the motor replaced at 70 thousand and just recently had the transmission replaced as well.. 😢😢😢
i have my work van 2006 chevy express with a 6.0 with 550,448 miles. Never had transmission replaced but i did have a head gasket blow at 220,000 miles. runs good still working!
@@jacobsearcy9856 only ever had one 4L80 fail on our fleet, the 4L60 you mention is a weaker version of the 80 series and commonly fails after 200k miles. What I recommend doing is what we typically do with ours, change the transmission fluid once a year. It's a little overkill but keeps those suckers ticking.
@@fluevano1204 wow! Here I thought I was up there lol. IMO you can't beat a taken care of Vortec 6.0. I don't dislike the F-series trucks but when you're like us and buy trucks that are 10+ years old the F-series of the day didn't have the power or durability the Chevrolets did then.
Thanks for the Video.....Papa was a rolling stone. Wherever he laid his hat was his home. Works for him.....

"In a van down by the river!"

@@JohnnyButtons that's no problem, there's hookers everywhere. 👌
Working for a company that uses all sorts of cargo Van's, the Chevy Express has been the most solid so far. Sure, we had some that had thier share of problems but most of them can be atributed to many of the guys abusing them or not following maintenance schedules. I found that if you treat these vans right and maintain them regularly, they can be pretty reliable. I had one that I put 240,000 miles on and it still was going strong when I turned it in to the fleet company. On the other end of the spectrum, the worse van my company tried was Ram ProMasters, both the large size and City mini work Van's. They were so bad, my company couldn't wait to get rid of them and we went back to the Chevy Express. BTW...this comes from a guy who is not a fan of Chevy vehicles in general. Just giving credit where credit is due.
@Ing. Julián Carías Point well made... and the sad part is the Italian mechanic asked to fix it again is using another make and model of van to deliver the parts need to fix the Ram ProMaster. Probabley using a Chevy Express.😀
Living in a van is starting to become more mainstream everyday. I dig it.
My Damn Channel 👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
Great job on converting the van ---brings back great memories !! With todays technology - you
can make vehicles very livable ---with the advantage of parking/sleeping almost anywhere...
Thanks for posting...
See Scotty... Chevy does make reliable vehicles. The cars are crap but Chevy trucks (Tahoe’s, vans, Silverado’s) are amazing good vehicles especially 1999-2006 era of Chevy trucks were the golden age
I have an 06 5.3 sierra and an 09 6.2 denali and i can say that the 06 is way more reliable
My grandfather had a 1952 Chevy truck (he made it into a step side) intil 2006 when a tree fell on it, it never had any big problems and was his workhorse that would pull his race cars from 1957 until 1978 when he started a family
Of course. But avoid the modern ones at all cost
Ghost Geist/Ichi Ayumi Love my 2016 Midnight Edition. Also loved my 08 and 99. The interior was very cheap in my 08 but my 99 and 16 are golden
nah
This WAS the best "My ride" video. I ought to copy it and make a vid with my C4 Vette. It has been all over the country.
Xtreme BoXers thank you very much! 👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
Wow this brings back some memories, I did something similar, but not with all the amenities. I used a regular Chevy cargo van, but only had an inflatable bed and hiking gear. plus a regular cooler. that's it, did a coast to coast yo-yo, from Hollywood Fla, to San Francisco, and back, visited many of the places this fine gentleman went to ( Monument valley, Arches, Rushmore, Yellowstone, etc. ) this was back in the 90s when gasoline was still around 85 cents a gallon in some places.
couple years later I did an even longer 1 month long trip, in a small 1979 MG Midget. 10,000+ miles in a small two seat. I set up tent at camp grounds and sometimes slept out in the open in my sleeping bag, mostly free locations, only paid a in a few spots, never more than 15 bucks.
I really wish I could do this again, I just love road trips, just waking up, looking at a map and asking, ok whats interesting around here, and just going there. and do some back packing.
agriperma 👍🏻👍🏻🖖🏻🚐☕️
Yes in the end it comes down to whether you can stand up or not. You can put a high top for $3-4K but they leak and reduce structural stability. Anyway this was only a tour of yet another van, not what its like to drive across america in it. Comfortable? Quiet? Bumpy? Harsh? Gas mileage? Tiring? Backaches? Tire noise? Vibrations and noises? Hard to steer and park? Its the journey I thought we'd learn about, not the destinations and friges.
When I was 21 y/o (back in 1986) I drove cross country on a Yamaha Vmax.
Ahh... different story, my friend.
Bikes & bikers are a world unto ourselves.
Did S.Spain - Holland on an XS650 back in 81 (Triumph copy, but reliable... and *no* oil leaks!)
I live a similar life as you.... Over the past 40 years, I have Van-Camped in 48 States, half of Canada & across Mexico from the Gulf to the Pacific (no longer recommended to go to Mexico)... I have been to every place you mentioned in your video, plus hundreds of other places.... I'm on my 4th Dodge Grand Caravan, but I want to get a Ford Transit HIGH TOP & Extended back.
Your comment sucks
Never thought I'd say this, but rev up your home engines😂😂

Ok the interior was a bit dated but we loved the way it drove and it was soooo comfortable. The back bench seats you could make into a bed and we liked the 'captains' chairs upfront. He didn't use the van all that often and sold it after about 15 years of ownership. He's actually looking at getting a more modern astro van.
Rev up your guy who lives in a van down by the river!
nunya bussiness 😂👍🏻☕️🚐🖖🏻
