To be honest j don't think her looks are very flattering. Honestly, monolids have amazing potential to be a huge eyeshadow canvas. Most flattering look Imo is to put eyeshadow to lift up the eye shape to avoid droopy sad eyes.
It is kind of a conservative look in the ones above.. I personally put coloured shadow a whole lot higher than what she had put on....
Yeah 9/10 times putting up the eyeshadow just makes my eyelid look puffier
Monolids are just double eyelids but the crease is like, underneath the skin and not visible. You put on the eye makeup with your eyes open, then close them and there’s a giant gap
To be honest I don't think *your* looks or eyes are very flattering, at all. But we're all entitled to opinions. Not being rude, k? 💋
Monolid-er here. Funny that this is posted on a channel called beauty insider 😂. Imo a lot of monolid looks from Asia are a lot more flattering than what she did. Her “style” is what westerners default to when they don’t know how to work with monolids (which is ironic because she talks as if what she does is different 😅). And if you do do the thick line along the lash line, there are much better ways to do it.
lol tf is this i have monolid eyes and id never follow that... they look so bad
RoseyBloodLust u can check out vivikat she has the best tutorials for puffy monolids
지훈 that’s pretty rude... it’s ok to critique but not be mean
I have a monolod in one eye and a tiny lid in the other, I suffer to make my eyes look even
It’s not rare to have uneven or different eye shapes, my eyes are also like that but so are many other peoples. You can hide the other one with eye tape than put eyeshadow over it, but it’s best not to change yourself for other people.
Gimbra omg! I have an almost monolid on one eye and an almost normal crease other eye. the struggle rip
I end up using double eyelid glue to make it even after I applied my eye makeup.
Hm...3 of the looks feel a little dated for some reason. No hate, it's well-done. But the styles are not by any means the "it" looks.
E.R. I totally agree and commented about that too. Reminds me of how all the girls applied their makeup in my teens in the ‘80s. The heavy black or charcoal shadow and liners are applied on too thick. With a gentle hand, I prefer to use medium shades like taupe, taupy-green, oyster, soft copper or bronze for the smokey eye look. The key is to deposit less pigment, keep to medium or lighter shades/colours and blend well or else you get raccoon eyes. Generally, a ‘cleaner’ lid looks best on mono or small lid gals using lighter, brighter colours like peach, apricot, pastel shades, etc...it’s more modern and more youthful.
I usually look toward East Asian high end fashion runway models who have smaller eyes for modern makeup inspiration.
@@wctoronto Yeah about that! With the looks that have a smokier outer wing, an 80s feel was exactly right! There is a modern version of this style, and I agree with you the impression overall is lighter and subtler. People mention Sophia Chang from below. Another artist that comes to mind is Jen Chae of From Head to Toe (both on youtube).
thanks for watching and i appreciate your comments! the looks probably feel dated because it's not the typical "insta glam" look that most tutorials are. This video was intended for beginners and those who don't want a super dramatic look or don't know how to approach a monolid. Hopefully some people can pick up a few tips and tricks.
I have monolids and I am not pro makeup artist but hell my makeup skills are much better. Those looks are about nothing.
All this mua did is put some super thick black line at the lash like all the other western muas who have no idea what to do with a monolid
Well you can tell she’s not that great at it by looking at her own makeup.. 😅
This makeup artist sucked big time. I have monolids and I always thought only an Asian make up artist would know how to do my eyes, but a French make up artist did a fabulous job!!!
Some Better Tips: Matte shadows are a monolid-ers best friend (well at least mine anyways :p). Not saying shimmers and glitters are a definite no-no, but in my experience, mattes flatter monolids a lot more. Also I find that I can create more depth to my eyes if I add a little bronzer (or any light tan/khaki shade) on the area where I can feel my brow bone and eye sockets meet. I lightly blended from outer socket half way in if that makes any sense. Hopefully this helps someone out there because girl, the struggle is real lol. (Took me a lot of personal experimenting in the past to find a technique that works for me. Always curious about others techniques though. However, every monolid is different. We just have to find what works for our own eyes.)
Huh??? no hate too, but it doesn't look like it was done by a professional makeup artist and even the make artist's eye makeup was not appealing too. :( what happened?
the best title for is "How to Apply Makeup To Monolids, According to A Non-Professional
I like the monolid eye makeup on this video ua-cam.com/video/2edvt_vtHE4/v-deo.html
cause as a make up artist we have different techniques we make more of illusion
Irene Kim is an EXCELLENT teacher. Omg. The instructions make sense and the eyeshadow, it looks great. I think I feel like I can finally wear eyeshadow on my monolids. THANK YOU, IRENE
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the kind words and am glad you were able to get something from it! =D
I’m Asian and I have a crease, but it is not as large as an American crease. So neither Monolid makeup, or western makeup works for me rip
Third Eye Vision with Diya I apologize, but please read before u reply. As u can tell from my last name, Wang, I am Chinese. I though any attentive person would notice
No offense but I think the makeup artist needs to improve on the placement of the shadows also eyelinear.
Mononlid ladies should watch Sohia Chang on UA-cam.
She has monolids and she was a MAC makeup artist.. you'll learn a thing or two!
This video should be titled "How not to do makeup for monolids"
i love how this makeup doesn't take away the monolid feature. Many monolid makeup tutorial I watched used eyelid scotch / false eyelashes and thus created double eyelid look. Girll, i just want to accentuate my monolid!
This is how I used to do my makeup back in 2015 when I first started using makeup 🙄
I think these looks are nice but maybe they are for older women. I think that they are not very current with the times. However, they look very cute for a 90s throwback look
Dorothy These looks are not even suited for older women. It makes any woman look older and dated. With older women, less is more...I believe the same goes for mono/small lid gals.
Ya'llll her own eyeliner drags her face down, this ain't it
To do eyeshadow on monolids you have to ignore all those western eyeshadow tutorials that talk about creases. The eyeshadow shape you can't go wrong with is just a simple ombre. Darkest colours closest to the lash line and spread it up. You want to keep the dark colors focused near the lash line and especially on the outer corner of the eye, otherwise it will look messy or like you got punched in the eye. Try not to put too much eyeshadow on the inner part of the lid, cause that drags the eyes down too. Top it off with eyeliner or mascara if you want and voila, a flattering eye look!
Oh also, DO NOT USE SHIMMER OVER THE WHOLE LID! It makes monolids look swollen and puffy. Mattes are always a safe bet. Surprisingly, less is more when it comes to eyeliner. I know it's hard to make the liner appear on monolids, but you have to be careful not to draw it too thick on the inner part of the eye otherwise it distorts your eye shape and again, drags your eyes down. A good example of liner drawn too thick is this video. Keep the wing LONG and SHARP.
Im half asian and I literally have half a crease 😭 im glad the Korean makeup trend is happening because otherwise I’d have no idea what to do with my lids
thanks for watching! i'm not exactly sure what you mean by a half crease but feel free to reach out if you have any questions I can help you with! =)
sometimes warm tones - especially warm pink shades make your eyes look puffy - i like to use a cool pink blush and then top it with a highlighter that has little lavender specks. then i focus on the mascara to 'elevate' the shape a little.
recommended products: glossier cloud paint haze, rem beauty highlighter (preferably the neptune one), glossier lash slick
I have faux monolids (hooded with dropped double lids make the illusion of semi-monolids) and the only thing that ever worked for me is to make vertical gradients rather than the usual horizontal (dark-medium-highlight). Also the real key is to open your lids when you put on eye makeup (for hooded and monolidded peops)
I'm glad you were able to figure it out! Many people will apply shadow from the outer corner inwards but that can be too harsh for some monolids. A lot of people don't know they should make vertical gradients instead of horizontal so I hope some people will try out something different for them. Thanks for watching and commenting! =D
I'm monolid and im glad i dont do my eye makeup like that lol
I think, we did a great job & much better than her(pro makeup artist)
(sorry for my english😀)
I think I'm doing smokey eyes look from this vid with some colour eye shadows 💗 Cause I don't care when people are saying these are outdated or something bad, all I can reply them is as long as we love our style, we're pretty no matter what 💟
thanks for watching and commenting! I hope you were able to pick up a few tips. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. =D
there are TONS of tutorials for asian eye make up (especially korean make up). I feel like asians who haven't had much interest or exposure to modern or pop culture in asia would find this useful, but not me. but i agree for the most part of her eyeshadow application
thanks for watching! this actually was intended to be a basic tutorial for beginners and those who don't know what to do with a monolid. The looks didn't come out the best, but I hope people can learn some application tips! Thanks for watching =)
I love this video. First one that showed me how to successfully attempt a Smokey eye on monopods. It can be very easy to make errors ✨
Yeah monolid is cool but how about asian with super narrow space between crease and their eye?
Yahhhhh my sister is so jealous of my double eyelids but it's a pain in the BUTT trying to get eyeshadow on without having it get in the crease
I have a monolid with small narrow space and a double lid on the other eye and so I always run the risk of having assymetrical eyes. What I have found is only darkening the outer V below the crease for both eyes and only sticking to darker accent colors on the outer V and some lightlighter towards the inner portion so that I they look symmetrical. Use an eye shadow primer so that you never get creasing or smearing of the eyeshadow especially with the smaller narrow space between the crease and the eye.
I have hooded lids but not as drastic as my daughter. This tutorial is great because my daughter is getting to the makeup age. I'll be able to help her even more now after watching this. THANK YOU!!!
bruh 1:11 I already love her eye makeup, subtle and cute
2:30 she the cutest!
I'm asian and I don't have monolids but sometimes I wish I did because these eyeshadow looks look so good on them (esp jen chae and sophia chang!)
This was a good tutorial
Most people who are saying the looks are bad need to understand that this was a tutorial to explain the technique of how to apply makeup on monolids the sole purpose of this video is to explain how to do various looks on monolid so how good or bad the look looks doesn't really matter bc its not about the "look" it's about the technique.
She did a good job.
thank you for watching and understanding the point of the tutorial! I think most people are expecting the typical more dramatic looks that are popular these days, but this tutorial was for those who don't want such a dramatic look or want to see something different than the typical "insta glam". But yes, I agree the looks didn't turn out the best. I appreciate your comment~ Thank you! =D
Omg Irene!!! You did my makeup for my wedding :')
Sue!! It's been a while!!! hope all is well on your end~ Thank you for watching!!
I dont have monolids but my lids are pretty small like kind of hooded and i dont have much space to work on, as she said i can put make up while i close my eye but when i open my eye it either looks black or you cant see anything, but now i always apply eyeliner and stuff with my eyes open that way i see the way it looks while my eyes are open, and i can see how thick i should go with the liner without making it curve or break, and tbh it looks really good everyone always compliments my eyeliner/eyeshadow
I suggest watching Hana lees monolid makeup tutorials. She’s not a professional makeup artist, but her makeup is super flattering and she provide natural and more glam makeup looks.
The reason I clicked on the video is because I couldn't believe a professional mua did the horrible eye makeup looks in the thumbnail.
She has good tips but her application is so poor.
Absolutely gorgeous! I love those colours! I've just subbed :) keep up the great work x
this video wasn’t good i’m an upset monolid viewer!
thank you!!! i'm doing makeup for the school play this year and one of the girls i'm doing makeup on is mono lidded. i was super confused on how to do her eyeshadow, especially since i'm not used to doing makeup on mono lidded eyes.
when she pulled the model's eye, all i can think of was Susan Zara from mixed make up saying WRINKLE.....
I have a mono lid but I also have Vietnamese double lids.. so it’s like half mono half double.. like at the insides of the eyes it’s mono but the more it (the lids) go out it becomes double.. u know what I mean? So it’s hard to find some makeup for it :(
i'm not exactly sure what you mean but feel free to contact me if you have any questions I can help you with. Thanks for watching! =D
These looks are so....old? I have monolids and I’m 15 and I don’t think those fit my face nor a certain vibe I’m going for.
Look like my make up at the time when I practiced doing eye make up
this video was intended to be a tutorial for beginners, makeup artists that usually apply eyeshadow in a western style, and asians that aren't used to wearing makeup or have a hard time with their monlids. thanks for watching.
When the gurl said at 5:5 that she doesn't have a crease. I felt that.
Lol the got punched analogy. I have tapered eyelids, not a monolid, not exactly double eyelid, and not exactly hooded either. Cut crease just doesn’t work on me period so I had to learn the vertical method as mentioned in this video and even then I’m still struggling.
Oh maybe I have tapered eyelids too 🤔 I don't think I've ever heard that term but it seems to describe what mine are like. Thanks! I'll be looking up looks for that now.
thanks for watching and commenting! I'm glad you found some looks that work for you but yes, the struggle is definitely real sometimes. =D
i'm white why am i watching this
Oajdjwkjdpwowj Odjejslpwjdjdow LOL UR STUPID we mean that we have a crease so why are we watching this
Jules Justus I’m not stupid and I actually don’t care. (just because your profile pic looks like 🤮 doesn’t make you cool) 😊
Oajdjwkjdpwowj Odjejslpwjdjdow well at least I’m not to insecure about myself that I’m too scared to have a profile pic :)
Lol
Asian make up artist: "Subtle is better subtle is better"
American make up guru: "Today I'm using this dry wall palette knife for my concealer.."
I love how they all have the same eyeliner
1:15 she’s so pretty omg and so are the other girls
iReneKimMakeup is this your video? Why are you thanking people for watching it?
I like the blue color under the eye corner look
Love me a monolid girl
I have monolids and to be honest these looks are so ugly. She basically just put a lot of dark eyeshadow near the lash line and finished off with a very big heavy wing. The dark eyeshadow somewhat helped but the wings are terrible. They drag the eyes down. Most aren't even blended. I would never do that.
I have monolids and this looks like the makeup i would have done when i was around 15, so passable but not great
As a monolid girlie, i focua morw on the bottom lid. Its not the current style to put alot of products on the upperlid. Idk it just look very heavy and more puffy.
Anything dark i wear on my upper lid close the the lash line or on my lashes just transfers down go my lower but not even on where my bottom lashes are like right above my cheek And i hate it cuz it makes it look dirty, what do i do, i also love how purple looks on my eyes always looks nice, pinks and burgundy too warm tones are really nice
Urban decay all nighter spray. Carry qtips and also apply the shadow beyond the lower lid (like a neutral) to minimize the dirty look. Happens to me all the the time
thanks for watching! you might have oily eyelids so using a primer or powder before and after applying eyeshadows may help. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions! =D
i have monolids and i do my makeup however i like :)
you should! everyone's idea of beauty is different. I'm glad you've found looks that work for you =)
i don't have monolids but i technically have double eyelids?? like i have a slight fold in between were the crease and eyelash would be, idk it's really hard to do makeup tho lol
thanks for watching. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions! =D
Natural and beautiful 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks God! I’m black but got Asian looking eyes lol 😂
Reine_ Noire no...what they^ meant was that Asia is a big country with a lot of physical diversities so basically, there’s no such thing as “Asian eyes” because people from different Asian countries have different physical features...you know?
Actually most Chinese have big eyes lol, it’s just the eyelid that makes them seems smaller (most people have hooded eyes or monolids)
Great tips 👍🏻😊
Pony... is the ultimate makeup artist!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great tip!
Thank you for this useful tips
Lmao the thumb nail got me ded ! 😂😭 Just keep experimenting and learn to love your eyes... Took me a while but I got there. What ever you do don't follow this lmfao
I needed this! Thanks 😂
I have half monolid and half double and it’s impossible to do makeup
Really nice! Thanks for sharing
But my monolids are puffy and is very hard to apply makeup and also has this kind of “line”
(It’s sorta bumpy and not like double eyelids)
Sorry if I didn’t make sense at all
do for a hooded eye look next!
thanks for watching! a lot of the same tips and tricks can be used for a hooded eye! try it out and feel free to message me if you have any questions! =D
I have one monolid and one double eyelid and I struggle so much with eye makeup
Thanks for watching! If it bothers you, you can try using eyelid tape to give an even appearance. Or apply more shadow to the monolid eyelid to create the illusion of symmetry. Hope that helps...... =D
Yea no.. this ain’t a professional and the women looked better before she put anything on them. I mean-just by looking at her own makeup you can just tell she’s not good..
I have double eyelids but I still have epicanthic folds, so I can’t do cut creases lol
What if I want a Jeffree Star sort of dramatic look???
Thanks for watching! I think most eye makeup tutorials these days are a Jeffree Star look, so you should be able to find one pretty easily. This tutorial was intended more as a simple beginner tutorial for people who don't know how to approach makeup for monolids.
Just watch in Korean makeup tutorials. They actually know how to do it correctly
One side of the wing liner eye look uneven
I have yet to find a tutorial with another Asian woman with the same/similar eyes as me. I have a monolid & very deep socket. So in certain angles it appears I just have a huge crease. Does that make sense? Probably not bc I’m a freak of nature... oi. Help a sister out!
These looks are fine if you barely wear makeup or are a total beginner, maybe. It's basic af but the lessons are not wrong. I have monolids and i know how to apply my own eye makeup so i didnt learn anything.
this actually is a beginner tutorial. I'm glad you learned how to apply your makeup on your own. Thanks for watching! =)
My problem is that i actually have a crease when i close my eyes but it's gone when i open them :(
Wtf. I don't see what the problem is. A monolid is a perfect eye canvas with no interruption of a crease. Why do they have such dull makeup? Carry that eye color upwards.
idk what i have.
i have a crease, but its so close to my eyeline, you cant notice it, so applying eyeshadow and eyeliner is hard
I love the the color
I vote for Perfect cat eyes- beautiful !
I hate my monolids. I look like a little boy especially because I don’t have many eyelashes
I haven't got a crease either so to be honest I'm only just learning how to do eye makeup
Would like to know how to do it
I got monolid and the space is very limited not like in this video
Great tips really
I am twenty and after watch this I feel older. Pls, be cheerful young
Amazing 😻
Great video
so like i lost hope in makeup for monolid eyes with this video...
don't lose hope. there are lots of tutorials out there if this one doesn't work for you ;)
my problem is i don't have enough space to put on eye makeup, my eyelid and eyebrow it just too close T.T
no offense, but the looks are a bit outdated... it's like something my mom would wear in the 80s
I agree with you
fr.. 🗿
💯
I think it’s refreshing compared to the often really monotonous and visually so tediously LOUD Millennial makeup styles of today that rely on the same techniques and clone the same looks over and over over. Plus, why should those of Asian descent be expected and pressured to mindlessly emulate styles/techniques optimized for Caucasian features? Because they’re “on trend” or “the [only] right way to do makeup? Whatever…
@@x77punk77x well.... these looks are also not the way people do it in Asia lol. It's outdated for Asia too XD
