Is this really going to be the downfall of the U.S.? I'm 68 years old. I remember life in this country actually being a lot better before 1974. A single income could support a family. People took vacations, had BBQ's, celebrated holidays, had friends, took road trips, talked to their neighbors, shopped in stores where everything wasn't under lock-and-key, were able to enjoy the free things in life, rather than being nickle-and-dimed to death with endless, petty fees. Is this really going to be the downfall of the U.S.? I'm 68 years old. I remember life in this country actually being a lot better before 1974. A single income could support a family. People took vacations, had BBQ's, celebrated holidays, had friends, took road trips, talked to their neighbors, shopped in stores where everything wasn't under lock-and-key, were able to enjoy the free things in life, rather than being nickle-and-dimed to death with endless, petty fees. Does anyone recall when big corpos valued intelligence and talent, rather than how many boxes could be checked on a "DEI" list? The list goes on. And this downhill slide all started in the mid 70's! Sure, going off the gold standard had something to do with it. But, that doesn't explain everything.
This is a good thing. Let BRICS do it's best.
My government professor in college in 1979 told me that it was Kissinger's idea to triple the price of oil. The rest of the world was paying a lot, but the US had very cheap gas prices. Kissinger, my prof told our class, went to Saudi Arabia and told him to up the prices to benefit American oil companies. Perhaps someone could look into this. Kissinger is responsible for so many horrible things in the world, I wouldn't be surprised if he was behind part of this. I actually met Kissinger when I was a naive high school student. I shook that bastard's hand. If I only knew then what I know now.
If America has to tax the population to pay for wars, watch how fast wars come to a screeching stop. That's the silver lining. That's what ended the Korean War. The people wouldn't keep paying taxes for it.

That money twas spent, but it was borrowed as debt. it wasn't extracted from the population through taxes. This level of print and spend is only possible if the rest of the world is forced to buy dollars and prop up its value

Every time I mention this problem, that the dollar is likely to stop being the reserve, and therefore suffer hyperinflation, people have no idea that's even a risk.
