Great review! Very detailed. The S7 Edge sure is a marvel of engineering. Imagine going back in time and letting Steve Jobs try it out right before he launched the original iPhone. He and everyone would be blown away lol
+ascendence The pressure it would take to keep the vapor as a liquid would be ridiculous. There is never any liquid in the pipe. Also, I can't imagine there being a vapor that is even close to being as conductive as a liquid. The whole vapor thing sounds awry.
Humza Ahmed hmm yeah , but I think the guy from video is not that dumb to hear it and still say there's no liquid .... and I also think that there's no liquid because I saw those copper thin wires like wadding ... but who knows ...
Also, you would still be allowed to call it a liquid cooling system because the gas would need condense into a liquid for the copper wick inside the device to function correctly. The gas would heat up, condense around the wick, travel through the wick into a cooler part of the phone (assuming) and turn back into a gas and distribute evenly in the tube again when cool.
That's not how condensation works. It's the other way around. The gas condenses in the cool area turning into a liquid which travels to the hot area and evaporates into gas which condenses in the cool area and so forth. This phone has a glorified heatsink, no actual liquid cooling unless liquid is present inside the pipe.
there's actually 3 forms of image stabilization: 1. Optical Image Stabilization, where the camera actually moves 2. Digital Image Stabilization, where it's done in-software 3. Chicken Image Stabilization, where the camera is strapped to a chicken's head
no liquid once you sliced the heat pipe open does not mean the chemical inside does not form liquid when it is sealed in. maybe the chemical has a very high saturated vapour pressure or the heat pipe is actually pressurized inside. either way, the chemical vapourises very quickly so you would not see any liquid, which is actually a good thing. because that is how the chemical quickly brings out the heat, by vapourising.
Great tear down and i like the way you kinda 'rush' it .. In other words you talk just fast enough, only mention the essentials and this results in a highly enjoyable professional video that most people will actually watch from start to finish !
+JerryRigEverything So will there ever be a screen replacement video for this or the S6 Edge+? Besides this teardown I'd like to see an actually replacing of a screen. My friends S6 Edge+ has a cracked screen. I was thinking of sending it in for repairs but am tempted to try myself.
The Galaxy S7 Edge cooler is a vapor chamber heat sink. It is the same used in most of the desktop to cool the cpu. The vapor chamber heat sink have cooper piper with a refrigerant inside(but they can add a second liquid to increase conductivity and reduce the "gas bubbles" at the processor side). The refrigerant is one or a mix of those who are on this list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_refrigerants The refrigerant is inside the cooper piper at high pressure, and exist at 2 phases that are mixed: liquid and gas. The quantity of liquid and gas is always the same. If you open the pipe, the refrigerant pressure become the ambient pressure, 1 bar, and it cool down for a short time. But then it become gas when is rising the temperature to the room temperature (about 20ºC). To dissipate the heat, the cooper conduct the heat from the processor to the refrigerant inside the pipes. Then a portion of the refrigerant that is at liquid, absorb the heat, change to gas and escape to one of the different side of the pipe. Then the gas conduct the heat to that wall and next the heat is conducted from the pipe wall to outside. At the same time a molecule change from liquid to gas, another molecule inside the pipe change from gas to liquid.
"Let me just cut the liquid cooling system to show you transparent gas"..."Now if I close it again, the gas will return to it's initial encasing where everything will be as good as new again"... Dafaq? You've destroyed the LCS 🙈
It is still copper it will transfer heat just fine it just won't be as efficient as it possibly could be and might throttle under gaming or prolonged heavy use, not even necessarily Netflix or something like that but more intense
+JerryRigEverything Sir, as an electrical engineering student, this video for me was more than just great. Watching how those tiny circuits are placed was just awesome.
I like when you say- snap like a little lego- . Takes me to my awesome days as a child when I played Legos non stop!!. Certainly most of your viewers wont repair or disamble the S7 age... but it's like teraphy for most of us. 😆😅 thanks man!
Brandon M I found the answer. If the phone heat up the stuff in this cooling system turn in to a liquid and the same was used for space. (sorry for my english skills)
Hey! First time I'm watching any clip about Smartphone repairs. Just wanted to leave a quick thank you, because you basically just gave me the idea to try this stuff out myself. I preordered the S7 Edge and would very much like to be prepared for when it breakes or certain parts reach the end of their lifespan. Luckily I still have a very old S3 with a broken home button at home, so that looks like a perfect playground. So anyway, you have my subscription, and my thanks! Keep up the good work
I was looking at that heat pipe in my teardown and thought about the same thing. I will be uploading my S7 screen removal tonight.....cross your fingers.
Nice video! It's really bad that the charging port is almost impossible to replace. I managed to damage the port on my Galaxy S4 and am glad that it's cheap and easy to replace it myself: And maybe there is a little bit of liquid inside the heatpipe, if it has a low surface tension it might just be wicked into the thin copper wires. Maybe it is some kind of hydrocarbon with a higher vapor pressure than water and low surfece tension. Technically, a heatpipe needs liquid inside: At the heat source (CPU) the liquid starts to evaporate, and the vapor spreads through the heatpipe. At cooler parts (where the heatsink is placed) the vapor starts to condensate, and the again liquid medium is wicked back to the heat source by the copper wires. Also, the condensating vapor locally reduces pressure in the pipe and therefore pulls more vapor to the cooled part. Furthermore, it takes a LOT of energy to evaporate a liquid, and the same amount of energy is released when the vapor condensates. Just to tell some numbers: It takes 4.2 joules of energy to heat one milliliter of water by one degree celsius. So heating one milliliter from 0°C to 100°C requires 420 joules. Turning one milliliter of water at 100°C temperature into steam of 100°C temperature requires a whopping 2257 joules. This is also the reason why boiling down water while cooking takes so long. As far as I know, the thermal conductivity of a heatpipe is about 1000 times better than the conductivity of a identically-sized rod of copper. That's pretty incredible! Without a liquid, there would be just gas somehow circulating around in the pipe. Unless there are fans inside (lol...) I guess this "heatpipe" would have a worse thermal conductivity than a piece of copper with the same size.
Woogoo336 would stay with the glass on but w/ the samsung logo in a plastic material so that its slightly transparent. Searched for it in Ebay couldnt find anything tho 😒
I saw on another video people saying the color on the glass can be removed/cleaned off. Not sure about the samsung logo itself but it would probably work if you could precisely remove the logo and add some kind of light that will tap into the phones power...

+JerryRigEverything can you tell me one thing please If my phone gets heat up while playing game or doing other thing will the glass come out automatically this thing happened with my sony xperia z3 so I was thinking about this issue in s7 edge I want to buy it please answer my question
The heat pipe definitely does contain a liquid and that liquid is probably water. And it will be operating at below atmospheric pressure in order to lower the boiling point of water. The way heat pipes work is that the liquid evaporates at the hot end, gets transported to the cold end in gas form and then at the cold end the gas condenses back into a liquid and that liquid is transported back to the hot end by a wick (surface tension does the job). You won't see the water. The small amount needed will be wetting the surfaces inside the heat pipe and most of it will be wetting the wick. Heat pipes cannot work without constant liquid/gas interchange so its pretty fair to call them liquid cooling, though I prefer phase change cooling. By cutting open the heat pipe you destroy it. The small amount of water that was in there will most likely end up hanging around inside the phone and eventually it will escape because the phone isn't sealed. The heat pipe itself will still contribute somewhat to cooling (because it can conduct heat). However if you pushed the phone hard it will either overheat and become unstable or protect itself by slowing down the CPU. I'm not sure what this particular phone does.
Great video, added to subscription list. will you dissasemble that camera stabilizer shown on end of the video? I have seen only 1-axis stabilizer so i am pretty interested in coil configuration here.
Hi, I watched your video on you-tube and was amazed. Thank you for publishing " Galaxy S7 Edge screen replacement - charging Port repair - Battery fix" Just seeing if you have any ideas as to what my problem could be. My phone which is about a year old just died, It was being used for messaging with about 60% battery life when it died suddenly screen black but no lights on anywhere. Put it on charge and nothing happened, tried attaching it through USB to computer still no sign of life. Tried another Samsung charger and again nothing. All chargers and ports work with other products. Tried following sequence of switching on and resets but nothing. What does that sound like to you a connection is defective or a diode or something has blown or burnt out. I find it strange as the battery had life but obviously have lost connection to the battery. Thanks, Nigel Williams (England)
good, informative and well narrated strip down, I have a question regarding the finger print connector, will the phone still work with the fingerprint scanner disconnected? mine is damaged and will not re-connect!
Great video! Is the color (gold, silver, black) inside the back glass or can it be scratched off from the outside. Trying to decide on whether to use a case.
I don't usually sub these type of channels but you did a great job with explanation that I had to like and SUB. one thing you left out is, will the double sided tape maintain the ip68 water resistance?
Damn dude, I could never have your patience. I would snap the back glass and be like, F-this, throw the phone as hard as I possibly could and cry like a baby. Nice video! :)
Officially subbed.. Awesome video. I always took electronics apart growing up. Now, they are to expensive if I mess it up. So I'll watch you tinker with stuff :)
Hey Jerry! Thats a real nice video there. Had a quick question.. My Charging port & audio jack stopped working and the service guy at Samsung says the screen needs to be replaced. Is it okay? And after its been serviced at an authorised service centre, do i need to worry about the waterproofing on the phone?
I never watched this video at the time wasn't following him.. I didn't know his channel till the s8 series came out.. then never missed an upload after since... so am here jerryrigeverything back from the future 2020.. now watching a 2016 video😎😎😎

Please make a video on screen replacement. I know its the same basic procedure like replacing the back, but any step by step instructions would be very helpful, maybe even a reliable source to replacement screens please
Dear Jerry, Did enjoy video made a few notes on the same ....however I recently cracked my front screen. The phone works amazing well no flickering of the screen. My worry is if given for replacement will affect the water resistance. And whether it be same like before ? Well alot of doubt and questions on the same....

It would be nice to have a longer version of this video with more details on the teardown
Thats a very good video. All your videos are really good. on the other side i am wondering who sponsors you ?
Hello I'm curious is there a way to fix gapping on front part of the s7 edge where the glass and frame meet?
Do you have a video showing the replacement of the glass screen?
hey Zack.
you should start teardown of laptops and also durability test 😀💪💣
Thanks for the video. Looking forward to the Samsung S7 'flat' teardown, as well as the LG G5 :)
man your zoom in videos are awesome so clear , and sad to know called liquid cooling but do not have it actual one
+Irfan Thanks! It helps having a 4k camera. I can zoom in 400% and still be at 1080p
Officially subbed.. Awesome video. I always took electronics apart growing up. Now, they are to expensive if I mess it up. So I'll watch you tinker with stuff :)
Thanks Jerri for this, it might be useful :)
S7 Edge with Exynos also has heat pipe?
Hey Jerry! Thats a real nice video there. Had a quick question.. My Charging port & audio jack stopped working and the service guy at Samsung says the screen needs to be replaced. Is it okay? And after its been serviced at an authorised service centre, do i need to worry about the waterproofing on the phone?
Wow, watch the camera stabilization hardware in action is really cool ! :)
Oh man .. You are doing an AWESOME JOB !!! :-D
Thanks for a really clear video...top job!
As always great video! I hope we'll see LG G5 and Xiaomi Mi5
I never watched this video at the time wasn't following him.. I didn't know his channel till the s8 series came out.. then never missed an upload after since... so am here jerryrigeverything back from the future 2020.. now watching a 2016 video😎😎😎
nice job jerry whats with the heat pipe? i thought its only for 810 due to excessive temperature.
Wow, I just came across your channel. You got yourself a new subscriber. Your videos are very informative and I enjoy your sense of humor. "Good as new" :P
Please make a video on screen replacement. I know its the same basic procedure like replacing the back, but any step by step instructions would be very helpful, maybe even a reliable source to replacement screens please
yh I cracked my back and need to replace it but it's so expensive
Great effort into that disassembly but there are much better ways and even making it water resistant again. Though I love your videos, quality effort.
Great walkthrue-video, certainly learn a lot in a very brief moment, will take a look on some of the other vids, very interesting...
I love your sense of humor 😂
Lovin the new intro!
is it still water resistant after the repair? +JerryRigEverything
Dear Jerry,
Did enjoy video made a few notes on the same ....however I recently cracked my front screen. The phone works amazing well no flickering of the screen. My worry is if given for replacement will affect the water resistance. And whether it be same like before ? Well alot of doubt and questions on the same....
