- On Saturday, September 27th, 2015, Steam Into History (aka The Northern Central Railroad) ran their first-ever "Railfan Day".
All passengers who purchased tickets to ride would be treated to four photo runbys on the return trip from Hanover Junction to New Freedom, PA.
The photo runbys were organized by Steve Barry of "Railfan and Railroad" Magazine fame and the crew of Engine #17, the "York", were excellent in making the steamer work hard for the benefit of the photographers!
Steam Into History is a first-class operation and I highly recommend that you check them out if you have the chance to visit York County, Pennsylvania! For more info and tickets, visit www.steamintohi... or call (717) 942-2370!
Enjoy and Thanks for Watching!
Anyone else on a sudden train video binge?
I did the railfan day this year I have trouble remembering what town is what....except for railroad town haha and for "the road"
I already knew the York #17 engine was built as a replica in 2013 by Kloke Locomotive Works! Its being considered as the newest steam locomotive built in the USA.
It's quite a shock to learn that this locomotive you saw in 2015 was only 2 years old as of 2019 its 6 years old for something you'd think was built in the late 19th century plus it burns oil than wood like most people would think just by looking at it
Be neat if the Stewartstown line ever gets restored and the York could run the whole distance.
they are running the stewartstow line again
Wow, that must've been a great day on the Northern Central. Is No. 17 the only steamer there?
+ThomasZoey3000 Steam Into History is a great operation! And yes, the #17 is the only steam engine they have.
Wouldn't if be awesome if Kloke built a General and a Texas?
the town with the bar what is that town on steam into history?
and glenn rock is the wooded curve right?
new freedom is the town with the bar
Any clue as to what whistle #17 is wearing now? Its clearly not her single note booted whistle.
+PereMarquette1223 Yes, it's a custom-made three-chime whistle. The crew at Steam Into History were starting to get worn on the sound of the original whistle and so, one of their firemen made the current one.
+Christopher Kovacs I was the fireman that built the whistle, I based it loosely on what I believed was a crosby whistle drawing from the 1870s. It's not the most melodious whistle in the world but it beat the hooter by a long shot.
+DRGW168 Thank you for your reply! It's a nice sounding whistle, I will admit.
Your intro is too long. I almost Xed out.
