    Greetings from the UK. I had this problem on my Stihl FS55 strimmer. It has the exhaust like yours, rather than the screen. Solved it by giving the inside of the exhaust with a good dose of carb cleaner, worked perfectly!

    I still don't understand why someone can give thumbs down to someone who is just trying to help others, I guess those people have the Secret to life! Thanks again for the video

    Going to try this. First video I've seen on how to get the inside clean. I just sprayed it with brake cleaner until it came out clean. Then blew it out with the compressor. Working fine so far but going to do this to.

    Great idea. I prefer a mapp gas torch for the extra heat. I heat them till they glow orange inside and outside. My last step is I blow em out with a little high pressure air and bolt em up.

    I tried this with the Toro, and it worked. I was told brake cleaner would work as well.

    I imagine that will work. I cleaned mine in my ultra sonic with purple power and Dawn. I got most of that crap out. I burned the spark arrester screen clean with my LP torch. If I really wanted to clean a muffler I would put it in our self cleaning over and run it through the self clean cycle, but I imagine your way will also work. I had to clean the muffler and spark arrester screen on my ms 241, yesterday. I thought about burning it out but did not want to burn the rust proof anodized coating off of it.

    Excellent video, and problem solved as there is really no other way to service these mufflers. Savings: $50 or more for a new muffler.

    I used a Bunsen burner

    Think I would clean out side on a wire wheel, blow out & off w/high pressure
    After burning it up lol then paint w/aluminum paint to see it smoke # stink when running

    I used GumOut spray inside and shook out the residue and then lit the muffler vapors (on the ground using a grill type propane lighter). Some mufflers will not come apart to remove and clean the 'spark arrestor' so do the best you can and be careful.

    You ought to have removed that spark arrester screen off and cleaned it separately with a torch. That is one of the big culprits. I clean those once a year or so on the saws that I have that have spark arrester. I run nothing but PNE gas in all of my small engines. Your electronic igniter probable does not work because the batter has probably died. There is usually a little Aa battery in the igniter, somewhere, just replace it.

      Did you see how clean the spark arrester is?

    You let muffler boil with water in 30 minutes or more the carbon will separate from the plate and restore.fire is more 1,000°f...... any metal will degrade the items.try!

      That sounds like a good idea. And I like the ultrasonic cleaner. Which do you think is best?

    Use good two cycle oil - do not use Stihl Ultra. That, is the filthiest oil I have ever used. It does good but is just filthy. I run Echo Red Armor at 50:1 in everything in own. What I did not get out of my muffler with the ultra sonic cleaning will burn off with the Red Armor over time. I am going to re-install the muffler bolts with Locktite Red on all the bolts.

    Just remove the spark arrester screen forever. Those sparks almost never happen and you’ll never have to worry about it clogging up. Because you can’t clog something that’s not there.

    • @karlrovey
      @karlrovey Місяць тому

      You'll never have an issue with the screen if you run it properly (full-throttle). It's the people who idle for long periods or use half-throttle most of the time who run into issues with the screen clogging.
