Iftar (Arabic: افطار, romanized: ifṭār) is the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan at the time of adhan (call to prayer) of the Maghrib prayer.
What is Roza and iftar?
Muslim community observes fast or Roza from dawn to dusk. Roza has two parts, one is Sehri - the meal that one consumes before daybreak and the second one is known as Iftaar - when people break the Roza - the meal that is eaten after sunset. People make elaborate meals for Iftaar.
What is the meaning of iftar in Islam?
Iftar, also known as futoor (the Arabic word for breakfast), is a meal held every day during Ramadan at sunset. Fasting is one of the main pillars of Ramadan, and those observing the holiday do not consume any food or drink between sunrise and sunset.
How do Muslims break a fast?
After sundown, Muslims break their fast with iftar, a meal which usually starts with dates and water or milk, followed by dinner. Muslims are permitted to snack at night between those two meals, and hydration is encouraged, especially when Ramadan falls during summer.
What foods to avoid in iftar?
An imbalance of sodium levels in your body makes you very thirsty while fasting, so try to avoid salty or highly seasoned foods, as well as food that contain soya sauce. Drinks that have caffeine lead to insomnia and restlessness. Drinks such as coffee, green tea, energy drinks, etc have high caffeine content.
What is iftar called in English?
from Arabic iftar the breaking of the fast; compare Id-ul-Fitr.
What should I eat first in Iftar?
Traditionally during Ramadan, dates are eaten at the start of Iftar to symbolise the breaking of the fast. Besides being an excellent source of energy, dates are also rich in potassium - helping muscles and nerves to function well.
