- Hi family! I just celebrated 7 years loc’d! It has been liberating and eye opening! In this video I share my tips and experiences from starting your locks to maintaining them throughout the years. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or if you would like to share some info with the fam as well.
Check out @AlyssiaDawn and her journey! She is definitely worth subscribing to.
For all things micro/ sister loc check out my mom-in-love’s channel @sylviag59 She also talks about loose natural and different styles of local, as well.
I just counted my locs and I have 127!! 😄🙌🏾
Im three weeks in my loc journey and this video really helped me learn new things & also stopped me from just taking my twists out lol. Ive been contemplating about taking it out or leaving it in because im so impatient but i also wanna see my journey and how far ive come, I also struggle with low self esteem & self love/confidence so i decided to start my locs (i hated my natural hair😅), NEW SUBBIE ! ❤️
I’m so glad this video could encourage you! Girl I was impatient too!! I had to just ignore them for a year!! Lol I can relate with the struggle of knowing your worth. Do you have a relationship with Christ? If I can tell you anything that’s of any value at all it would be that Jesus literally helped me to see my true identity and is always helping me to know my worth. We’re not valuable because of our looks, but just because he loves us. It’s real odd to accept that because of all the things we go throw in life, but it’s true. I’m soooo glad you’re a part of La Familia!! I’ll be praying for you beautiful 💛
Started my locs 2 days ago!! I’m so happy lol
Happy Locaversary Sis !! First off, didn’t know our dates were so close. Mine is February 21, 2019 (3 years in y’all!!). Yes to the brushing, I just learned that as well, you would be surprised how much lint is in there. Great tips I agree!!
Thank you!! It’s so much you learn a long the way, Happy Belated as well!! 💛👏🏾👏🏾
Very informative video! I am 4.5 years loc’d and I can relate to just about everything you mentioned. Your locs are very pretty and healthy. Congratulations on 7 years! Subscribing.
That is so great to know! Yeeess 4.5 years! Thank you so much for your feedback and welcom to La Familia! 💛
I literally just wash and condition. I cant tolerate oil. This was a good video. Locs are so low maintenance

Beautiful! I’m so glad you are on your way! Can’t wait to hear more about your journey 💛
Loc gang I’m 2 years and almost 2 months in loving it so far ❤😊
Come on neow! Yes!! 🫶🏾
I’ve been considering getting locs for a minute now, just haven’t decided what method I’d like yet and how it would look with my hair density
Sometimes you’ve just got to book the appointment and decide there 😅 no, but I understand! I’m also saying that because the loctician can help with those concerns and help you make that decision
@@tajanelchinyere you’re right! I literally dreamed of myself with locs lately so this is my sign! Thanks
This is a sign my birthday is on February 19 I just loc’d and I kind of had a moment of wanting to comb them out but I’m going to keep them 🌻🌻🌻🌻
Yay!! Well I’m glad I could help you in that regard. May I ask, what made you want to comb them out?
@@tajanelchinyere i had a moment of worry about how I would viewed. I experienced a couple of negative comments. I’m ok now and secure in my decision.
Beautiful and healthy hair!❤️🙏🏾
Thank you!!
Happy Locaversary!! Thank you for tagging and mentioning me. I enjoyed this video.🌹🌹
Thank you!! And of course Mama!!
I've been thinking about it since I was 15 and I'm 25 now🤡.
Sounds like you just gotta jump in there, like TUHMORROW! 😅 Let me know if you actually do it! That would be dope!
yes !!!!
Chin ye re looks like an igbo name. Your pronounciation made me rewind the video to hear you one more time. 😂 it’s well.
No, it is a Nigerian name, I’m not from there though. My mother fell in love with it, but I think I should look into my history to see where my bloodline leads me.
Loved your video sis!
Thank you so much! 💛
Freeform
I love your locs and I love you voice!

Thank you Babez! I’m glad you enjoyed and got the info that could help with your decision
🔥🔥 Happy Locversary!
Thank you Babe!
Love your locs🙌🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾
Thank you!
@@tajanelchinyere definitely!!
Hiiiii - I keep watching this video! I love your judgement free position on its ok to fall in and out of love with one’s hairstyle. My son has traditional locks and his friend who does his hair says she would be honored to get me started! Been saying this for years. LOL! I want to do it but I am praying that God helps me with my decision because I know it’s a commitment. Thank you Tajanel! Such a beautiful name. Truly amazing content. ❤️🙌🏽
Hello! I’m so glad you enjoy this video! Yes, I believe God has not given us a Spirit of fear, so we are more than able to make sound decisions, even one’s we will commit to. Like I said in the video, most times we’ve already thought about it for a while. I really hope you make the leap and find yourself falling in love with your decision 💛 Thank you soooo much for your support!
This video helped me a lot!!!
I’m so glad!!
Just started my loc journey on Wednesday
🎉🥰🙌🏾
That's it!! I'm sold ... lower maintenance I'm getting my locs
Aww you started on my 16th birthday lol
Nice! Are you loc’d too?
@@tajanelchinyere yep I am!💗 I’m about a year and 4 months into this set. Lol I’m on my 4th set because I didn’t like how I started the others or my parts. (Two strands, instant locs and coils that were done terribly).
I love this video. I started my locs myself 4 months ago with two strands twists and i interlocked my roots. i am loving every part of this journey. i am never going back to loose natural hair. i got locs because i got tired of doing my my lose hair and it was either loc my hair or shave it off. i wasnt ready to shave my head so i did start locs on impulse but i love love it =)
I’m so happy for you!! Your journey will be beautiful 🙌🏾
I water wash my locs throughout the week. But wash with shampoo once a week.
Nice! Yes, I’ve seen a few people water wash their locs 👍🏾
I started from a short cut in 2020 its now 3yrs my locs are now to my shoulders
Beautiful! 🙌🏾
Hi Taj, new here. I am going for the 2 strand twist. How long after that can I loc it?
Wonderful! It depends on your hair texture, but typically if you don’t mess with it between 2-5 months it should be loc‘d. If you really have fine hair or really soft hair it may take 9 months. The key is to get it retwisted once a month and not to touch it too often within the first few months
@@tajanelchinyere Great thanks for your reply. I have a 4 C , not fine at all. So what’s the difference between locking and retwisting? Do these mean same thing? 🤣🤣sos cause you mentioned it get loc’d within 2-5 months, Is it by it self or I must have it crochet? then you said retwist it every month ideally so I got confused.
Contemplating them for 10 years and I’m so ready now!! My hair is fine what you recommend
Yay!! Oh yes, definitely do it!! I would get a consultation appointment with someone in your area, but I believe smaller locs will be good for finer locs. Like, microlocs, sister locs or just a higher number of traditional locs
@@tajanelchinyere got locked 2 wks ago and im I love. Already set up a retwist and style for end of month for baby girl’s graduation 🙌🏽
awesome video, you look so beautiful with locs.ps I believe you can still take them out even months and years later, like you said JUST DO IT :)
Thank you Love! Oh yes, you are correct! I think I want a COMPLETELY different look though 😅 so, I’d just result in getting the big chop 👌🏾
You and your hair looks radiant. Subscribed!
Thank you so much! And welcome to La Familia! 💛
