It always amazes me how quickly you guys can edit and post a Grab Bag with videos from the same day - some from less than five hours prior to the upload. Great job in all you do! Virtual Railfan is amazing!! 👍
Flashes of light in Waycross yard caused by power lines touching as an outer band of Hurricane Idalia passes with wind gusts and heavy rain. Outer bands with this storm were as far as 280 miles from the center.
Love these Grab Bags! Little Red and Yellow Caboose - Cute. Nice Paintings or Photos at Austell on the fence. The Darwins at LaGrange really had me holding my breath and then screaming right afterwards. Just Wow for those people.

One with a high-hood, one that got his high-hood cab replaced with a more traditional one in 2015, and one that always had a normal cab. 5:26 brand new Ferromex gray boxcars along with some old boxcars. I thought they built freight cars in Mexico, but I know EMD built some locomotives there. 6:55 double heritage on the Lake Shore Limited again. 100 "Midnight" and 108 "Red-head" 7:33 SBZX 9582 and 9529 are ex-Aberdeen, Carolina, and Western GP40-2Ws. 8:55 Amtrak MOW train through Paradise 9:30 CanDo Rail geep 10:35 two warbonnets trailing and a tanker on a flatbed 10:50 Amtrak inspection train passes N&W 475 11:40 unusual ballast hoppers. They even did some work on Big boy 4014. Nickel Plate 587 is stored alongside C&O 2716, which is under restoration. 12:53 CEFX blue unit that hasn't been sold to NS yet. I wonder what will happen to their E9s as they weren't with 3985, 5511, and 6936. 14:30 these DODX cars come in quite a few colors. I'm not sure if that's an attempt to somewhat disguise them, but that wouldn't make much sense because they look unlike other boxcars. 15:07 CSX 1976 leading 16:42 H3, Executive MAC, and warbonnet triple-heading a mixed freight 17:02 power flashes! I've seen a few videos of them happening randomly, maybe because the equipment is old, broken, or something got stuck on the wires. 17:50 empty Schnabel at the end of an intermodal 18:36 NS 8100, two UP units, and a KCS unit. Had to go looking to see what Amtrak 521 there after 9:06 is. Turns out be not be Amtrak's first loco numbered 521, an SDP40F previously carried it. Present 521 seems to be a GP38 variant created from a GP40TC used by CN. RRpicturearchives lists 521 as a GP38H-3.
Thanks again VRF. Executive livery SD 70MAC's BNSF 9830 & 9761 at Fort Madison and another at Chehalis - spot-on. I also liked seeing down the street to the right, at Fort Madison. That Bear was very cautious at crossing the Railroad and the Highway (something the Darwin's might like to try) Also, he/she didn't seem to be walking too easy and I wondered if the Bear might have been injured recently.
Another amazing one and why is there paintings on the fence in Austell and nice Amtrak heritage unit but why did it go a different route than normally?
Hey VxR, that B.K., (Burger King ) that's @ Austell, Ga., location, I would be dining in and sitting in the parking lot all the time. Thanks for the 📸 camera loca'n
I got a Fever. And the only cure is more wig-wag bell! Great stuff R.R. Thanks for fulfilling this request. First clip at Lake Bluff makes me wonder if the GP35s still had ATS.
DODX 902 there at 14:46 looks like it has enough antennae on its roof to be more of an ELINT asset than a transportation crew asset; especially with it having 2 air conditioners.
11:59, That Darwin definitely probably made the engineer's heart skip a beat. That driver was very lucky because if he crossed a second later, his car would have been hit and totaled by the train. Nice Grab Bag though
This is S. Walnut Ave. in La Grange. Not only are there no gates, there are no crossing lights. Just a crossbuck above the street stop sign. The sight line for drivers to see a train are also completely blocked. Check it out on Google Street view.
The flashes around 17:02 onwards, look to be arcing on high voltage cables, most likely a combination of them being wet, and possibly phases touching together. If that happens, usually the cable will enter a fault state, and line end circuit breakers will shut off the power, which is possibly the really bright flash you saw at the end of the sequence. It would also explain the signal lights failing shortly after.
LaGrange is still good for some SERIOUS entertainment 😝 Glad to see Revy the Bear is still around and healthy. Hope some wildlife carers will take care of him and possibly move him to a more bear-safe location.
Yes, that happens once in a while. Good catch. If you put a : between your minutes and seconds only, it will make a usable time link. Like 16:45 and 23:30
0:28 and 0:49 Schnabel w/caboose? 11:11 Norfolk and Western 475 has Wikidata article 12:11 Darwin award candidate 13:25 toad or frog? 14:49 cool yellow caboose 15:29 bear - Revelstoke BC 18:19 Schnabel TEXX1135 (could have slowed this down for easier, better viewing) 20:28 stereo NS engines approach 23:14 Amtrak Superliner, track maintenance train
The caboose w/the Schnabel car is used for accompanying technical support/security personnel for the load. In this case a Siemens Electrical item of very high value, susceptible to damage and almost certainly having excess dimensional and weight restrictions on its routing that must be closely monitored.
Passenger in the car crossing the track at 11:59 must have had a impressive view of the locomotive's coupler! This is S. Walnut Ave. in La Grange. Not only are there no gates, there are no crossing lights. Just a crossbuck above the street stop sign. The sight line for drivers to see a train are also completely blocked. What if diesel locos had Jake brakes like the truck with the boiler. Obviously the pipe cannot go up, but forward under the cab would sure clear the crossings and road obstructions? Ha!
Where I live there's a 2 track N S main line going by Micky d's across the street is a Burger World(King) it's a downsize line for locals. I Don't go there it may still be called the Fort Wayne line
17:10 WAYCROSS: News reports say a colorful bi-plane crashed into power lines upon approach to the airport, one mile north of tracks, and was SNAGGED in the lines, dangling the slightly injured pilot for two hours.
Bear checked traffic several times, you obey lights that don't trip after too long?🤣 As a female person of enough years to have a sense of humor I near about spit...
Even the bear was smart enough to stop look and listen
bear has had a couple lessons on that...
Yeah, maybe, but you don't stop, look, n listen while you're on the tracks!!!
Now that right there is funny. Coca Cola out the nose!!! 😮
Revvy’s back!
Revy Bear is the Canadian safety mascot. Like Smokey Bear is in the USA. His tag line is "Stop Look and Listen, eh?"
Nice to see a caboose every now and then 😊

Rev Bear! For The WIN!
12:40 It's Southern 722's boiler.
I enjoy the dusk clips, the lighting is great!
Revy the Bear certainly takes her/his time crossing a normally busy highway.
Another amazing one and why is there paintings on the fence in Austell and nice Amtrak heritage unit but why did it go a different route than normally?
Maybe rerouted due to the hurricane?? Just speculating; I have no inside knowledge.
I had asked in chat about the art at Austell, got no answer but was nice work
My wife says, "Hello Revy." She worries so that he has no parents to look after him. She's not a train fan, but is a Revy fan.

hello virtual raiflan it's is randy and i like yours video is randy
Love you, Revy!
I got a Fever. And the only cure is more wig-wag bell!
Great stuff R.R. Thanks for fulfilling this request.
First clip at Lake Bluff makes me wonder if the GP35s still had ATS.
At 17:21 those were power flashes in Rice yard causing the power to go out because of the Hurricane pushing on shore.
Amazing video
The hopper cars seen at 11:40 closely resemble those running on Australian railways.
Love the new Ferromex boxcars. Look much better that the 50 year old NdeM ones.
They don't have the obligatory graffiti yet.
Usual death wish in La Grange
Good video !
DODX 902 there at 14:46 looks like it has enough antennae on its roof to be more of an ELINT asset than a transportation crew asset; especially with it having 2 air conditioners.
It wouldn't surprise me if that train has "special" cargo and the caboose has a squad of Marines or Rangers assigned as a protective detail.
CSX almost picked up some new red paint.
Old bear is looking pretty well fed.
Keep it going as always
Best thing on the internet!!! You know it!!!
Virtual Railfan has more wildlife on it's cameras than most trailcams!😂
Loved seeing a frog on the camera.
11:59, That Darwin definitely probably made the engineer's heart skip a beat. That driver was very lucky because if he crossed a second later, his car would have been hit and totaled by the train. Nice Grab Bag though
A lot of Darwin candidates amazing! Plus that Bear 🐻 was smarter than humans, notice how he looked both ways before crossing the tracks 😅
At the 5:20 mark those apartment's or condominiums under construction I would live there also at trackside
What's the blue bnsf?
How much is the froggy in the window? The one with the tiny tiny tail? I do hope the froggy is for sale.
There are gates at that intersection in La Grange, right?
There are no gates at that intersection but there should be.
This is S. Walnut Ave. in La Grange. Not only are there no gates, there are no crossing lights. Just a crossbuck above the street stop sign. The sight line for drivers to see a train are also completely blocked. Check it out on Google Street view.
Man revi is huge
Somewhere's getting a new HV transformer block!
A+ Content ... That Bear remembered- noticed the caution at the crossing / Seems it recovered

do those in La Grange, KY drink Jack Daniels all of the time, and then drive to town for another??? yeah, that is what i thought.
People freak out and act like they’ve never seen a train before, and I swear some of them act like they expect it to stop at the four way stop. 😅

3:29, how did they........ do this.........
The bear has enough common sense to stop look and listen at least..
Was there a twister or windstorm in the Waycross area?? The blue flashes were power lines shorting out.
Hurricane.
What has become of the N.P. 587?
