Imagine being a French person just minding your own business, eating McDonald's, and then you hear a slightly drunk wilbur Wilbur repeating 83 to himself while Phil and Kristen laugh hysterically
That was one of the most entertaining 2 minutes of my life and I was somehow completely enthralled by Wilbur talking about his struggle to remember what 83 is in french at macdonalds.
Yup, the "quatre vingt" bit is a well known quirk of the french language. Civilized french speakers like Belgians will use the much more sensible "octante". I do hope that you guys found time to enjoy the actually good french food (we very rarely eat snails and even less frogs but please try a Confit de Canard that is an actual classic)
Only few of them then. Where I am, they go septante, quatre-vingt, nonante Octante is something you mostly see in Switzerland and french regions around
As a person who took French in school, I immediately thought, "Quatre-vingt trois!" when Wilbur said 83, so I guess it surprised me to see him struggle with something because I'm so used to people around me knowing French

I'm always so enthralled by Wilbur's story telling. Be it a serious RP moment or a retelling of trying to understand French in Paris McDonalds he makes every word so engaging
@@3SaturnNE Yes I do. But even though I know, why should that mean that I can’t enjoy his/older content? Or make light of this situation by staying away from the subject on unrelated videos?
LET ME TELL YOU, i watched this about a year ago and since then i’ve decided to start taking a french class this semester. and ohh boy, every time quatre, vingt, or trois is mentioned i think back to mr. wilbah soot talking about a french mcdonalds and i always laugh i little bit
Wilbur, Overall is funny on streams and he’d be a great storyteller. I’d wish he’d read/write more stories on stream. And yes I firmly believe if he would be a DND class, he’s a bard.
Even if we (the viewers) are on the other side of the screen, it feels like were actually there with Wilbur hearing him rant lmao I love the way he tell stories
I've been studying french for the past four years and Wilburs frustration and amazement surround their numeral system brings back fond memories of my first time learning it too
I just love that in the entire city of Paris, of all the cafes and lovely foods on offer, you guys decided, a little tipsy on wine and late at night, to go to McDonald's. I ♥️ my streamers.
It’s a thing from history, french speakers would count up their fingers and toes so in total twenty. Everytime they count to twenty they’d wrap a rope around their arm once. So after counting they could count the amount of twenties and multiply by the amount of times the rope was wrapped around their arm. So just like Wilbur mentioned in this situation they would multiply twenty by four.
@@csongorszarka3254 they count up with their fingers it's really stupid but if the number before the zero is even they count with the toes and fingers because it can be decided by twenty but if not they did exactly what I said before but they just didn't use the toes and just the fingers and multiply by ten
Being able to speak french and know virtually every number, your mental break down over the number 83 was extremely amusing. Wanna know what even better? The number 90 would be pronounced quatre vingt dix. Four twenty tens.
This is so interesting that i stayed for the whole video and didn't get bored for even a second, and might i remind you that this is a story about an Englishman forgetting 83 in French in a Mcdonalds
