  • This "Murph" now has a little sister - The Hamilton "Murph" 38 mm.
    This is my review of my 42 mm version. Let's find out which of the two watches is better.

    For a long time most of the watches I`ve been wearing were around 45 mm. But with the grow of the collection and buying some older and retro watches I switched to 39-38 and even 35 mm. So now i feel extremely comfortable when instead of a wall clock on my wrist there`s a smaller size watch that don`t look too blingy and oversized. Murph 38 seems to be just the ideal variant.

    For me, as a look at my 42mm that just came in today, missing the morse code on the second hand on the 38 is a loss, BUT, at the same time, it really makes the 42 that much more special. I refused to not get the 42 due to this. Its part of "The Murph".

    I like your overview! You've gained a sub.
    As for the Murph watch, I've been contemplating buying one and still can't decide between the 38 and the 42. I think the 38 would look better on my wrist but the "eureka" morse code on the 42 is a nice touch that the 38 doesn't have..

      @@garyweber8201 - First of all, thanks for the kind words! Second, I TOTALLY agree with your dilemma.
      Initially, when I bought the 42, the 38 version wasn’t an option, but today, I would have the exact same questions … and, to be honest, I don’t regret my choice b/c the “eureka” indication is what sold me in the first place. The tie-in to the movie is more important to me, even today.

    Definitely the 42mm! That was the size of the one in the movie! Some have said that was because there was extra tech in the one in the movie to make it tick Morse or binary! I alsoMust have the Euereka and Morse code on the hand! I am all about the Movie! my opinion!!

    If I were to buy a "Murph" (which I'm considering), I'd opt for the 38mm on account of the 42mm version having a) too much reflection in the crystal and b) a less than inspiring strap . . . especially given the price.

    The 38 mm is technically more accurate to the film, because the movie prop version doesn’t have the Morse code dots on the minute hand either. For this reason as well as the fact that 38 mm is a more versatile wearing size for more people I would choose that over the 42 mm version.

    • @timetowatch_francois
      @timetowatch_francois  10 місяців тому +3

      Yes, you're absolutely right; the prop was "clean" and I only just discovered that I like 38 mm watches for some models.
      What I like about the 42 mm is the "hommage" to the movie and I'm only starting to appreciate 38 & 39 mm watches on my wrist. Typically, I like larger watches.

      Thanks for your question. With that size of wrist, it’s kind of borderline good for both but I really think the 38 mm would be a perfect fit.

      Thanks for your comment.
      Currently, Hamilton does not make a 22 mm bracelet for this watch.
      IMHO, I feel the lugs are too long to accommodate a bracelet and, the core of this watch is a Field Watch so, either a strap or more specifically, a NATO-like strap would be more fitting.

      1 - it encourages your local economy and,
      2 - it’s not much more expensive.
      However, if you are looking for trusted online resellers, Teddy Baldassarre is one (new watches only) and for used watches, maybe jomashop.com or watchfinder.com

    Guys, can someone tell me about the scratch reliability and AR of this watch please?

    • @timetowatch_francois
      @timetowatch_francois  Рік тому

      @dopa matu3 - Hamilton is not known to add any AR in their watches and this one's no different. There is no AR to speak of (you'll see it in the images; reflections galore!)
      As for the scratch reliability, the case is Stainless Steel and the crystal is Sapphire glass. If you're like me, you wear your watches and SS will still scratch but with the sapphire glass, you'll have to wake up really early to have that scratched up.
      I feel that scratches on a watch gives it character so, I would't worry about that too much with this one. Take care of your watches but don't "baby" them ... that's my motto 😊👍🏼
