His parents are extraordinary and really left no stone unturned trying to save their boy. His mother is one of the most eloquent writers I have ever heard and she has touched the world with her heart, her pain and her strength. We prayed for them these last 11 months and hoped Hersh would be back in their arms one day. This outcome is a shock and a horror. Now we cry and grieve with them. They are extraordinary and I think they will be okay. They will never be the same but they will be okay. May his memory be a blessing. Long live Israel.

Hersh’s was one of the first hostage stories I learned about; he was a hero who tried valiantly to stop the terrorists from throwing live grenades into the shelter full of people he was in, by catching the grenades and throwing them back, until one of them exploded in his hand, severing his arm. Then he was kidnapped, along with many others. Will never forget this brave and selfless young man with the beautiful, gentle face, may his memory forever be a blessing.
